We have measured antiproton production cross sections as functions of centrality in collisions of 14.6 GeV/c per nucleon Si28 ions with targets of Al, Cu, and Pb. For all targets, the antiproton yields increase linearly with the number of projectile nucleons that have interacted, and show little target dependence. We discuss the implications of this result on the production and absorption of antiprotons within the nuclear medium.

Total cross sections for the π − p single charge exchange and 20° “partial-total” cross sections have been measured between 126 and 202 MeV pion energy. The former are about 4% below similar results of Bugg et al. and (5–10)% below predictions made with currently accepted phase shifts. The latter agree quite well with calculations.

In the CERN NA32 experiment a high-resolution silicon vertex detector and a purely topological approach were used to collect 557 events consistent with associated charm production, both decay vertices being observed. The pseudorapidity gap distribution appears to be nearly independent of the nature of the charmed hadrons. This distribution is reasonably consistent with the next-to-leading order QCD calculations. However the azimuthal-angle distribution is significantly broader than the above predictions.
FOR ONLY 20 EVENTS IN WICH BOTH DECAYS ARE FULLY RECONSTRUCTED ( 26 D0 , 8 D+ , 5 D/S+ , 1 LAMBDA/C+ CHARMED PARTICLES ).

Production of Λ, Λ , and K s 0 has been measured for a wide range of event multiplicity in S+Pb reactions at 200 GeV/c per nucleon. The production of Λ is shown to increase with multiplicity faster than expected from a superposition of p+p collisions. The effect is seen for low multiplicity (below 100 negative particles).

The response function of nuclei in the quasielastic region at large momentum transfer (q≤10 fm−1) is measured for a series of nuclei, He4, C12, Al27, Fe56, and Au197, up to large values of the Bjorken scaling variables x<2.5.

Polycarbonate track detector Makrofol, sensitive to fragments withA≧16 was used to register products of interactions of 6.3 GeV deuterons with Th, Bi, Au, and Ag. Cross sections for the production of events with one, two and three fragments have been determined and their variation as a function of theZ2/A of the target analyzed. Possible mechanisms were proposed and discussed. Geometric characteristics of binary events were used in order to identify those binary events which resulted from the process of fission. The results were compared with corresponding proton data.
Cross sections for the production of events with one, two and three fragments have been determined.
Using the CLEO-II detector at CESR, we have observed the D s 1 (2536) + in the decay modes D s1 + →D ∗0 K + and D ∗+ K S + , and measured its fragmentation and production ratios. Using the helicity angle distribution of the daugter D ∗0 , we obtain new evidence for the assignment of 1 + for the spin and parity of the D s 1 + . We also set upper limits on the decays D s1 + →D s ∗+ λ, D 0 K + and D + K s 0 .

We present a total of 273 independent data points of the analyzing powers A oono (nP) and A ooon (nP) in a large angular interval at four energies between 0.477 and 0.940 GeV. The SATURNE II polarized beam of free neutrons obtained from the break-up of polarized deuterons was scattered on the polarized Saclay frozen-spin proton target. Part of the data was obtained with a CH 2 target. A comparison of the two measured observables allows one to determine the polarization of the neutron beam. The present results provide an important contribution to any future theoretical or phenomenological analysis.

Data from 97.7 to 123.4 degrees are combined beam and target analyzing powers.
We present a total of 323 data points of the spin correlation parameter A oonn (np) in a large angular interval at eight energies between 0.8 and 1.1 GeV. The SATURNE II polarized beam of free neutrons obtained from the break-up of polarized deuterons was scattered on the polarized Saclay frozen-spin proton target. The present data are the first existing results above 0.8 GeV.

The results of two sets of transverse energy measurements, performed with incident proton beams of 200 and 450 GeV/c momentum on several nuclear targets, are presented. The transverse energy cross sections dσ/dET are measured in a pseudorapidity range including the target fragmentation region (−0.1<η<2.9) for both data sets and also in a nearly complete pseudorapidity coverage (−0.1<η<5.5) for the data taken at 200 GeV/c incident momentum. A comparison is made of the transverse energy distributions in the target fragmentation region and in the full η region. We find that the mean value of pseudorapidity of the dET/dη distributions shifts towards the target fragmentation region as the atomic mass number of the target increases or a selection of high transverse energy events is made. A parametrization based on a simple geometrical nucleonnucleon scattering approach was found to be inadequate to describe all features of the transverse energy distributions. Finally, the VENUS model is compared with the experimental data.
