A first measurement is presented of exclusive photoproduction of $\rho^0$ mesons associated with leading neutrons at HERA. The data were taken with the H1 detector in the years $2006$ and $2007$ at a centre-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=319$ GeV and correspond to an integrated luminosity of $1.16$ pb$^{-1}$. The $\rho^0$ mesons with transverse momenta $p_T<1$ GeV are reconstructed from their decays to charged pions, while leading neutrons carrying a large fraction of the incoming proton momentum, $x_L>0.35$, are detected in the Forward Neutron Calorimeter. The phase space of the measurement is defined by the photon virtuality $Q^2 < 2$ GeV$^2$, the total energy of the photon-proton system $20 < W_{\gamma p} < 100$ GeV and the polar angle of the leading neutron $\theta_n < 0.75$ mrad. The cross section of the reaction $\gamma p \to \rho^0 n \pi^+$ is measured as a function of several variables. The data are interpreted in terms of a double peripheral process, involving pion exchange at the proton vertex followed by elastic photoproduction of a $\rho^0$ meson on the virtual pion. In the framework of one-pion-exchange dominance the elastic cross section of photon-pion scattering, $\sigma^{\rm el}(\gamma\pi^+ \to \rho^0\pi^+)$, is extracted. The value of this cross section indicates significant absorptive corrections for the exclusive reaction $\gamma p\to\rho^0 n \pi^+$.

The $\gamma p$ cross section integrated in the domain $0.35 < x_L < 0.95$ and $-t^\prime < 1$~GeV$^2$ and averaged over the energy range $20 < W_{\gamma p} < 100$ GeV for two intervals of leading neutron transverse momentum.

Differential photoproduction cross sections ${\rm d}\sigma_{\gamma p}/{\rm d}x_L$ for the exclusive process $\gamma p \to \rho^0 n \pi^+$ in two regions of neutron transverse momentum and $20 < W_{\gamma p} < 100$ GeV. The statistical, uncorrelated and correlated systematic uncertainties, $\delta_{stat}$, $\delta_{sys}^{unc}$ and $\delta_{sys}^{cor}$ respectively, are given, which does not include the global normalisation error of $4.4\%$.

Double differential photoproduction cross sections ${\rm d^2}\sigma_{\gamma p}/{\rm d}x_L{\rm d}p_{T,n}^2$ in the range $20 < W_{\gamma p} < 100$ GeV. The statistical, uncorrelated and correlated systematic uncertainties, $\delta_{stat}$, $\delta_{sys}^{unc}$ and $\delta_{sys}^{cor}$ respectively, are given, which does not include the global normalisation error of $4.4\%$.

THE study of elastic scattering at high energies in the region of the diffraction maximum has gained in interest recently in connection with the verifica- tion of the asymptotic expressions obtained by cal- culating the Regge-pole trajectories. We have in- vestigated the elastic scattering of 3. 5- Be VIc 7r- mesons by protons. The measurements were made with the aid of a liquid-hydrogen bubble chamber 25 em in diameter, placed in a 14 kOe magnetic field.

This investigation was performed with a 24-liter propane bubble chamber [i] and is a continu- ation of our previous work on the production of strange particles by 7-8-BeV 1r- mesons on hydrogen and carbon. [ 2 - 5 ] The properties of 1r 0 mesons inferred from the y quanta accom- panying A and K 0 production are given, and are compared with the properties of 1r+ and 7r- mesons emitted in A and K 0 production processes. The possibility of a resonance with radi- ative decay is noted.

The values of the differential cross sections for the Compton effect on the proton are given for $\gamma$-quantum energies from ~230 to ~250 MeV. These values of the cross sections are the result of a more accurate analysis and of making absolute the experimental data obtained by us earlier.

Inspire Record 1387568 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.70774

We have used a magnetic spectrometer to study the production of charged pions in collisions of 600-MeV neutrons with nuclei of Be, C, Al, Cu, and Pb over a wide range of angles. For these nuclei we have obtained at five angles (16, 30, 60, 90, and 123°) the spectra of pions of both signs, on the basis of which we have found the cross sections, atomic-number dependences, and angular distributions of pion production. The influence of a number of effects on the characteristics of pion production in nuclei is discussed. The analysis performed permits us to obtain a qualitative picture of the basic regulari- ties of pion production.

The angular and energy distributions of pions produced by 650-MeV protons and pion-nucleon correlations were studied using a liquid hydrogen bubble chamber. The present investigation indicates that the experimental angular distributions of neutral and charged pions are consis- tent with the assumption of isotopic spin conservation. The contributions of rrN subsystem states with isospin T 11'N = 7' 2 and % are measured; the contribution of the latter is 72 ± 3%.

Production of Λ(Σ0) Hypersons and K0 Mesons in Interactions Between 7 GeV π- Mesons and Carbon

Belyakov, V.A. ; Boyadzhiev, A.V. ; Yung-ch'ang, Wang ; et al.
Sov.Phys.JETP 19 (1964) 1073-1080, 1964.
Inspire Record 1387585 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.17006

The production of A ( ~ 0 ) hyperons (henceforth denoted A hyperons for short) and K 0 mesons by negative pions on carbon was investigated. The angular and momentum distribu- tions of these particles and the cross sections for their production are determined, and the cross sections of the different channels of the reactions are estimated. The fraction of strange particles produced in the secondary processes is estimated for the first time. The momentum spectrum of the A hyperons (in the pion-nucleon c.m.s.) is compared with the spectrum for rr-p interactions. The experimental data are compared with the results of cascade-model calculations made by the Monte Carlo method.

Belyakov, V.A. ; Veksler, V.I. ; Viryasov, N.M. ; et al.
Sov.Phys.JETP 19 (1964) 1326-1332, 1964.

The simultaneous production of pion resonances and strange particles was investigated. The simultaneous production of p 0 mesons and A-K pairs was observed in events characterized by charged particle multiplicity ns = 4 and having cross sections upo = 20 ± 8 ~b. Cross sections for the production of w and YJ resonances are presented. The 1340-MeV peak in the distribution of four-pion effective masses is discussed.
