The triple differential cross sections for the 6Li(e,e'p) reaction have been measured in the excitation energy region from 27 to 46 MeV in a search for evidence of the giant dipole resonance (GDR) in 6Li. The cross sections have no distinct structures in this energy region, and decrease smoothly with the energy transfer. Angular distributions are different from those expected with the GDR. Protons are emitted strongly in the momentum-transfer direction. The data are well reproduced by a DWIA calculation assuming a direct proton knockout process.

Using data from the Fermilab fixed target experiment E665, general properties of forward produced charged hadrons in μp interactions at a primary muon energy of 470 GeV are investigated. The normalized inclusive singleparticle distributions for Feynman-x D(xF ) and for the transverse momentum D(p2t , xF ) are measured as a function of W and Q2. The dependence of the average transverse momentum squared 〈p2t〉 on xF , W and Q2 is studied. The increasing contribution from diffractive production as Q2 decreases leads to a reduction of the average charged hadron multiplicities at low (positive) xF and an enhancement at large xF , for Q2 ≲ 10 GeV2. It also reduces 〈p2t〉 for Q2 ≲ 5 GeV2 and 0.4 ≲ xF < 1.0.

Phys.Lett.B 295 (1992) 159-168, 1992.
Inspire Record 338074 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.29003

The structure functions F p 2 and F d 2 measured by deep inelastic muon scattering at incident energies of 90 and 280 GeV are presented. These measurements cover a large kinematic range, 0.006⩽ x ⩽0.6 and 0.5⩽ Q 2 ⩽55GeV 2 , and include the first precise data at small x , where large scaling violations are observed. The data agree with earlier results from SLAC and BCDMS but exhibit differences with respect to those of EMC-NA2. Extrapolations to small x of recent phenomenological parton distributions are shown to disagree with the present results.

Results are presented for F2d/F2p and Rd-Rp from simultaneous measurements of deep inelastic muon scattering on hydrogen and deuterium targets, at 90, 120, 200 and 280 GeV. The difference Rd-Rp, determined in the range 0.002<x<0.4 at an average Q^2 of 5 GeV^2, is compatible with zero. The x and Q^2 dependence of F2d/F2p was measured in the kinematic range 0.001<x<0.8 and 0.1<Q^2<145 GeV^2 with small statistical and systematic errors. For x>0.1 the ratio decreases with Q^2.

The muon-proton and muon-deuteron inclusive deep inelastic scattering cross sections were measured in the kinematic range 0.002 < x < 0.60 and 0.5 < Q2 < 75 GeV2 at incident muon energies of 90, 120, 200 and 280 GeV. These results are based on the full data set collected by the New Muon Collaboration, including the data taken with a small angle trigger. The extracted values of the structure functions F2p and F2d are in good agreement with those from other experiments. The data cover a sufficient range of y to allow the determination of the ratio of the longitudinally to transversely polarised virtual photon absorption cross sections, R= sigma(L)/sigma(T), for 0.002 < x < 0.12 . The values of R are compatible with a perturbative QCD prediction; they agree with earlier measurements and extend to smaller x.

Measurements of the Nucleon Structure Function in the Range 0.002-GeV**2 < x < 0.17-GeV**2 and 0.2-GeV**2 < q**2 < 8-GeV**2 in Deuterium, Carbon and Calcium

Small angle scattering of 280 GeV positive muons by deuterium, carbon and calcium has been measured at scattering angles down to 2 mrad. The nucleon structure function F 2 extracted from deuterium does not show a significant x dependence in the measured range of Q 2 and its Q 2 dependence is linear in log Q 2 . For calcium, a depletion of F 2 is observed at low x by 30% as compared with the values at x = 0.1 where F 2 (Ca) and F 2 (D) are not significantly different. This depletion is attributed to shadowing. The carbon structure function exhibits a similar, but less pronounced, x dependence. Such behaviour is observed to be independent of Q 2 . The data are consistent with those obtained from other charged lepton experiments both at similar and higher values of x and Q 2 and considerably extend the range of the measurements down to the low values of x to be measured in forthcoming experiments at HERA.

Measurement of internal jet structure in dijet production in deep inelastic scattering at HERA

Internal jet structure in dijet production in deep-inelastic scattering is measured with the H1 detector at HERA. Jets with transverse energies ET,Breit > 5 GeV are selected in the Breit frame employing k_perp and cone jet algorithms. In the kinematic region of squared momentum transfers 10 < Q2 <~ 120 GeV2 and x-Bjorken values 2.10^-4 <~ xBj <~ 8.10^-3, jet shapes and subjet multiplicities are measured as a function of a resolution parameter. Distributions of both observables are corrected for detector effects and presented as functions of the transverse jet energy and jet pseudo-rapidity. Dependences of the jet shape and the average number of subjets on the transverse energy and the pseudo-rapidity of the jet are observed. With increasing transverse jet energies and decreasing pseudo-rapidities, i.e.towards the photon hemisphere, the jets are more collimated. QCD models give a fair description of the data.
