Inspire Record 394716 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.47953

A study of the production of strange octet and decuplet baryons in hadronic decays of the Z recorded by the DELPHI detector at LEP is presented. This includes the first measurement of the∑± average multiplicity. The total and differential cross sections, the event topology and the baryon-antibaryon correlations are compared with current hadronization models.

Enhanced production of low mass electron pairs in 200-GeV/u S - Au collisions at the CERN SPS

The CERES collaboration Agakichiev, G. ; Baur, R. ; Breskin, A. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.Lett. 75 (1995) 1272-1275, 1995.
Inspire Record 393957 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.47988

We report on measurements of low-mass electron pairs in 450 GeV p-Be, p-Au, and 200 GeV/nucleon S-Au collisions at central rapidities. For the proton induced interactions, the low-mass spectra are, within the systematic errors, satisfactorily explained by electron pairs from hadron decays, whereas in the S-Au system an enhancement over the hadronic contributions by a factor of 5.0±0.7(stat)±2.0(syst) in the invariant mass range 0.2

Properties of high mass multi - jet events at the Fermilab proton - anti-proton collider

The CDF collaboration Abe, F. ; Albrow, M.G. ; Amendolia, S.R. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.Lett. 75 (1995) 608-612, 1995.
Inspire Record 393345 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.52833

The properties of two-, three-, four-, five-, and six-jet events with multijet masses >600 GeV /c2 are compared with QCD predictions. The shapes of the multijet-mass and leading-jet-angular distributions are approximately independent of jet multiplicity and are well described by the NJETS matrix element calculation and the HERWIG parton shower Monte Carlo predictions. The observed jet transverse momentum distributions for three- and four-jet events discriminate between the matrix element and parton shower predictions, the data favoring the matrix element calculation.

Tests of QED at LEP energies using e+ e- --> gamma gamma (gamma) and e+ e- --> lepton+ lepton- gamma gamma

The L3 collaboration Acciarri, M. ; Adam, A. ; Adriani, O. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 353 (1995) 136-144, 1995.
Inspire Record 394354 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.47938

Total and differential cross sections for the process e + e − → γγ ( γ ), and the total cross section for the process e + e − → γγγ , are measured at energies around 91 GeV using the data collected with the L3 detector from 1991 to 1993. We set lower limits, at 95% CL, on a contact interaction energy scale parameter Λ > 602 GeV, on the mass of an excited electron m e ∗ >146 GeV and on the QED cut-off parameters Λ + > 149 GeV and Λ _ > 143 GeV. Upper limits are also set o branching fractions of Z decaying into γγ , π ° and ηγ of 5.2 × 10 −5 , 5.2 × 10 −5 and 7.6 × 10 −5 respectively. The reactions e + e − → ℓ + ℓ − nγ (ℓ = e , μ , τ ) are studied using the data collected from 1990 to 1994. The data are consistent with the QED expectations.

Measurement of the D*+- cross-section in two photon collisions at LEP

The ALEPH collaboration Buskulic, D. ; Casper, D. ; De Bonis, I. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 355 (1995) 595-605, 1995.
Inspire Record 394752 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.47950

The inclusive production of D ∗± mesons in photon-photon collisions has been measured by the Aleph experiment at LEP with a beam energy of 45 GeV. The D ∗+ are detected in their decay to D 0 π + with the D 0 observed in three separate decay modes: (1) K − π + , (2) K − π + π 0 and (3) K − π + π − π + , and analagously for the D ∗− modes. A total of 33 events was observed from an integrated luminosity of 73 pb −1 which corresponds to a cross section for Σ( e + e − → e + e − D ∗± X ) of 155 ± 33 ± 21 pb. This result is compatible with both the direct production γγ → c c in the Born approximation and with a more complete calculation which includes both radiative QCD corrections and contributions in which one of the photons is first resolved into its quark and gluon constituents. The shapes of distributions for events containing a D ∗+ are found to be better described by the latter.

Short-Range Nucleon-Nucleon Correlations Investigated with the Reaction C-12 (e, e-prime pp)

Kester, L.J.H.M. ; Hesselink, W.H.A. ; Kalantar-Nayestanaki, N. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.Lett. 74 (1995) 1712-1715, 1995.
Inspire Record 414880 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.19658

The reaction C12(e,e′pp) has been studied at an energy transfer ω=212MeV and a three-momentum transfer |q|=70MeV/c. The measured missing-energy spectrum shows a signature for knockout of proton pairs from (1p)2, (1p,1s), and (1s)2 states. A comparison of the data with a calculation, in which different processes leading to two-nucleon knockout are accounted for, shows that the measured cross section for the knockout of a (1p)2 pair can largely be attributed to short-range nucleon-nucleon correlations.

New Measurement of the Charge Radius of the Neutron

Kopecky, S. ; Riehs, P. ; Harvey, J.A. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.Lett. 74 (1995) 2427-2430, 1995.
Inspire Record 414771 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.19664

The neutron transmission through a thorogenic liquid 208Pb sample 2 in. thick has been measured in the neutron energy range between 0.1 and 360 eV at the ORNL neutron source ORELA. Analyzing the shape of the transmission spectra as a function of neutron energy, agreement was found with the predictions by the atomic form factor. With a sensitivity for the mean squared charge radius of the neutron 〈rn2〉 as high as 3%, a very reliable and also accurate result of 〈rn2〉=−0.113±0.003±0.004fm2 was extracted. For the neutron-electron scattering length we obtained bne=(−1.31±0.03±0.04)×10−3fm.

CONST(NAME=SCATTERING LENGTH) is related to the mean sqared charge radius of the neutron by <r(N)**2> = c(n) * CONST(NAME=SCATTERING LENGTH), where c(n) = 86.387 fm.

Measurements of the two photon widths of the charmonium states eta/c, chi/c0 and chi/c2.

Inspire Record 397180 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.18931

Using the CLEO-II detector at the CESR $e~+e~-$ storage ring running at the center-of-mass energy around 10.6 GeV, we have studied exclusive production of charmonium states in two-photon collisions. Employing a dataset comprising 3.0 ${\rm fb}~{-1}$ we have searched for decays of the $\eta_c$, $\chi_{c0}$ and $\chi_{c2}$ mesons resulting in four charged hadrons. We report on the measurements of the cross sections and two-photon widths of these charmonium states.

The first two errors quoted are statistical and systematic, respectively. The third one arises from the uncertainties in the branching ratios of charmed mesons.

Inclusive electron scattering from nuclei at x approximately = 1

Phys.Rev.C 53 (1996) 2248-2251, 1996.
Inspire Record 394586 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.25857

The inclusive A(e,e') cross section for $x \simeq 1$ was measured on $~2$H, C, Fe, and Au for momentum transfers $Q~2$ from 1-7 (GeV/c)$~2$. The scaling behavior of the data was examined in the region of transition from y-scaling to x-scaling. Throughout this transitional region, the data exhibit $\xi$-scaling, reminiscent of the Bloom-Gilman duality seen in free nucleon scattering.
