We present differential cross-sections for the electro-production of single charged pions from deuterium for a virtual photon mass squared −1.0 GeV2 and for pion nucleon masses in the range 1.23–1.68 GeV (the 1st and 2nd resonance regions). The data are compared with predictions from fits to hydrogen data.

Measurement of the imaginary part of the I=1 $\bar{N} N$ S‐wave scattering length

The survival time spectrum of slow antineutrons produced in a LH2 target has been measured. From these data the imaginary part of the I=1 spin averaged S‐wave antineutron proton scattering length has been deduced to be Im a1= −0.83±0.07 fm. The result lies within the range of values calculated from current potential models.

$\pi^- P$ Charge Exchange Analyzing Power From 547-{MeV}/c to 687-{MeV}/c

The π−p charge-exchange analyzing power has been measured from 547 to 687 MeV/c in the center-of-mass angular range -0.9≤cosθ̃π≤0.9 using a transversely polarized target. The recoil neutron was detected in coincidence with a photon from π0 decay. The results are compared with the three recent partial-wave analyses (PWA’s); the VPI analysis is most consistent with our measured distributions except at 687 MeV/c where no PWA agrees with our data. The charge-exchange transversity cross sections are evaluated using the differential cross sections of Borcherding et al. These transversity cross sections are used in conjunction with earlier π±p data by our group to test the triangle inequalities which are a model-independent test of isospin invariance. Our data satisfy these inequalities everywhere; in contrast, Abaev et al. have reported a violation of more than 5 standard deviations at 685 MeV/c.

SEARCH FOR STRANGE BARYONIUM STATES IN ANTI-P D INTERACTIONS AT 8.9-GEV/C

A search for SU(3) manifestly exotic Q2Q¯ 2 baryonium states in antiproton-deuterium interactions was carried out at the SLAC 40-in. hybrid bubble-chamber facility. The I=(3/2, S=1 channel, X−, produced in conjunction with a forward produced neutral antikaon was studied. Such X− states would decay into an antihyperon and a baryon. The fast forward K¯ 0 was detected in a three-view segmented calorimeter placed downstream of the bubble chamber and used as part of the trigger. Upper limits of 0.50–1.63 μb are reported for the X−→Λ¯nπ−, Σ¯ n−, Λ¯pπ−π−, Σ¯ π−−, Σ¯ π∓±π− exclusive channels based upon ≤13 events per channel.

Measurement of Pion Proton Bremsstrahlung for Pions at 299-{MeV}

We have measured the fivefold differential cross section d5σ/dΩπdΩγdEγ for the process π+p→π+pγ with incident pions of energy 299 MeV. The angular regions for the outgoing pions (55°≤θlabπ≤95°), and photons (θlabγ=241°±10°) in coplanar geometry are selected to maximize the sensitivity to the radiation from the magnetic dipole moment of the Δ++(1232) resonance. At low photon energies, the data agree with the soft-photon approximation to pion-proton bremsstrahlung. At forward pion angles the data agree with older data and with the latest theoretical calculations for 2.3μp≤μΔ≤3.3μp. However at more backward pion angles where no data existed, the predictions fail.

High Transverse Momentum Hadron Hadron Correlations in $\sqrt{s}=38$.8 GeV Proton Proton Interactions

Measurements of correlations of nearly back-to-back hadrons produced at a large transverse momentum in s=38.8 GeV proton-proton collisions are presented and compared to previous results with a beryllium target. The correlations of identified unlike-sign hadron pairs in ratio to the correlation for all unlike-sign pairs are compared with predictions of the Lund model. These predictions differ from the data.
