We have observed muons produced directly in Cu and W targets by 300-GeV incident protons. We find a yield of muons which is approximately a constant fraction (0.8·10−4) of the pion yield for both positive and negative charges and for transverse momenta between 1.5 and 5.4 GeV/c.

Differential cross sections as a function of transverse momentum are presented for the production at ∼90° (in the c.m. system) of π±, K±, p, and p¯ in p-nucleus collisions at incident proton energies of 200 and 300 GeV.

Production of charged pions by 730-MeV protons from hydrogen and selected nuclei

An experiment was done in the external proton beam of the Berkeley 184-in. cyclotron to measure the production cross sections for pions from various target nuclei, from hydrogen to lead. The cross-section data are presented and the reaction mechanisms discussed. The hydrogen production appears to fit the one-pion-exchange model.

Particle Production by 2.9-BeV Protons Incident on Beryllium and Platinum

Phys.Rev. 148 (1966) 1315-1326, 1966.
Inspire Record 50655 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.26589

Differential cross sections as a function of momentum are presented for the production of π mesons, K mesons, protons, deuterons, tritons, and He3 at various laboratory angles by 2.9-BeV protons striking Be and Pt targets. The Be data were taken at 13°, 30°, 60°, and 93° relative to the direction of the Princeton-Pennsylvania Accelerator internal proton beam; the Pt data were taken at 13° and 93° only. The results are compared with the corresponding data in hydrogen in order to investigate the role of the complex nucleus in particle production at this energy.

pi-Meson Production in 2.9-BeV p-p Collisions

Detailed measurements of the production of charged π mesons in proton-proton collisions are reported. The observed results are compared with the "isobar" and "one-pion exchange" models and for single production are in agreement if only the "resonant" part of the π−p cross section is used and if the angular distribution cos16θ is introduced for the production of the N1* isobar. The effects of higher resonances are also considered.
