New results on the multihadron production by electron and positron beams colliding with a total energy of up to 3 GeV are reported. Disregarding possible kaon final states, the ratio σ mh / σ μμ of the total multihadron cross-section to the point-like cross section for process e + e − → μ + μ − has an average value of 1.58 ± 0.25 in the energy interval 2.6–3.0 GeV. The average charged multiplicity over this energy range is 〈 n c 〉 = 2.9 ± 0.3.

Results are reported based on a study of π − p interactions at 147 GeV/ c in the FERMILAB 30-inch Proportional Wire Hybrid Bubble Chamber System. We have measured the topological cross sections and separated two-prong elastic and inelastic channels. In addition, we have extracted leading particle cross sections using the increased momentum resolution of the downstream proportional wire chambers. We have compared our results with experiments and predictions of a simple fragmentation hyphothesis.

By combining new results obtained at C.M. energies of 1.2 and 1.3 GeV with previous data obtained at lower energies from the e + e − annihilation process e + e − → π + π − π o π o , we get an indication in favour of the existence of a new vector meson of the ϱ type, ϱ' (1250), the first daughter of the ϱ in the predictions of the Veneziano model. Further results on the annihilation process e + e − → π (1600) → π + π − π + π − are also presented.

NOTE THAT ABOVE 1.3 GEV, THE CROSS SECTION VALUES ARE CRITICALLY DEPENDENT ON THE ASSUMPTION OF A PHASE SPACE DISTRIBUTION FOR THE FINAL STATE. NOTE ALSO THAT THE RHOPRIME(1600)0 --> RHO EPSILON(700) --> PI+ PI- PI0 PI0 RESONANT CONTRIBUTION HAS BEEN SUBTRACTED OUT. THIS CORRECTION IS GREATEST (25 PCT) AT 1.5 GEV.

Experimental data on dd small-angle elastic scattering in the Coulomb interference region are analysed to yield the dd scattering amplitude. This amplitude is then expressed in terms of the nucleon-nucleon scattering amplitudes and the Glauber correction. The value for the nn scattering amplitude found is shown to be in good agreement with the pp amplitude.

Nucl.Phys.B 73 (1974) 365-386, 1974.
Inspire Record 94656 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.32247

Differential cross sections for charge exchange π − p → π 0 n have been measured for momenta up to 50 GeV/ c . The cross section falls as a power of energy. The forward scattering cone shrinks with increasing energy. The cross section for charge exchange at zero angle drops with momentum as P −0.81±0.05 . The charge exchange cross section in the region of the second maximum decrease as P −2.8±0.1 . The ϱ trajectory is described by a linear function α ( t ) = 0.56 + 0.97 t in the interval 0 < − t -<1.5 (GeV/ c ) 2 .

Inspire Record 672 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.32273

Channel cross sections have been determined for p p annihilations into final states containing 3 to 9 pions at 4.6 GeV/ c . The moments of both the charged and neutral pion multiplicity distributions are presented and model predictions are critically examined.

Nucl.Phys.B 74 (1974) 77-101, 1974.
Inspire Record 94650 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.32272

Results are reported of a study of the hypercharge reactions K − p → ωΛ (la), K − p → φΛ (lb), K − p → φ ∑ o (lc), K − p → ϱ o Λ (ld), K − p → ϱ o ∑ o (le), K − p → ϱ − ∑ + (lf) in a 12 events/ub bubble chamber experiment using K − mesons of 4.25 GeV/ c momentum. Total and differential cross sections are presented as well as the density matrix elements of the peripherally produced vector meson and (except for reaction (1f)) the hyperon polarization. For reactions (1a) and (1b) an amplitude analysis is performed. The mass and the width of the ϱ−, φ− and f-meson have been determined.

Photoproduction of phi mesons on protons at 2.0 gev

Besch, H.J. ; Hartmann, G. ; Kose, R. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.B 70 (1974) 257-271, 1974.
Inspire Record 94756 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.32317

At the Bonn 2.5 GeV synchrotron the differential photoproduction cross section d σ /d t of φ mesons has been measured at a photon energy of 2.0 GeV at fibe different t values between 0.23 < | t | < 0.73 (GeV/ c ) 2 . The φ meson was detected by magnetic momentum analysis of both charged decay K mesons and by a time of flight and angle measurement of the coincident recoil proton. We found an exponential behaviour for the t dependence of the cross section. The measured slope of the exponential decrease was b = (4.01 ± 0.23) (GeV/ c −2 . This result, combined with previous measurements at higher energies, implies that the slope of the pomeron trajectory is compatible with zero. In addition the experiment yielded a value of the φ mass, m φ = (1019.4 ± 0.8) MeV and a value of the φ width, Γ = (4.4 ± 0.4) MeV.

Anti-proton charge exchange on protons at 25 and 35 gev/c

Bolotov, V.N. ; Isakov, V.V. ; Kakauridze, D.B. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.B 73 (1974) 401-409, 1974.
Inspire Record 94654 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.32275

Cross sections for p ̄ p → n ̄ n at 25 and 35 GeV/ c have been measured. The cross sections decrease with increasing momentum as 1/ P 2 . A narrow peak is observed in the momentum transfer interval 0 ⩽ − t ≲ 0.02 (GeV/ c 2 in the differential cross sections. Neither ϱ nor A 2 exchange contribute to the process in the investigated energy range.

Pi0 electroproduction at the delta(1236) resonance at a four-momentum transfer of q-squared = 0.3(gev/c)-squared

Baetzner, K. ; Beck, U. ; Becks, K.H. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.B 76 (1974) 1-14, 1974.
Inspire Record 94609 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.32274

The reaction e − + p → e − + p + π 0 has been studied in the region of the Δ (1236) resonance at a four-momentum transfer of the virtual photon of 0.3 (GeV/ c ) 2 . Angles and momenta of the secondary electron and of the outgoing proton were measured in coincidence to obtain the angular dependence of the differential cross section. The angular distribution for s- and p-waves of the pion in the πN cm-system was fitted to the cross section for three W -bins around the maximum of the resonance. The contribution of the resonant multipoles M 1+ , E 1+ and S 1+ to the cross section as well as the contribution of the background amplitudes M 1− , E 0+ and S 0+ are given.
