Deep inelastic scattering with leading protons or large rapidity gaps at HERA

The dissociation of virtual photons, $\gamma^{\star} p \to X p$, in events with a large rapidity gap between $X$ and the outgoing proton, as well as in events in which the leading proton was directly measured, has been studied with the ZEUS detector at HERA. The data cover photon virtualities $Q^2>2$ GeV$^2$ and $\gamma^{\star} p$ centre-of-mass energies $40<W<240$ GeV, with $M_X>2$ GeV, where $M_X$ is the mass of the hadronic final state, $X$. Leading protons were detected in the ZEUS leading proton spectrometer. The cross section is presented as a function of $t$, the squared four-momentum transfer at the proton vertex and $\Phi$, the azimuthal angle between the positron scattering plane and the proton scattering plane. It is also shown as a function of $Q^2$ and $\xpom$, the fraction of the proton's momentum carried by the diffractive exchange, as well as $\beta$, the Bjorken variable defined with respect to the diffractive exchange.

Total cross-section measurements for muon-neutrino, anti-muon-neutrino interactions in 3-GeV - 30-GeV energy range with IHEP-JINR neutrino detector

The results of total cross section measurements for theνμ,$\bar \nu _\mu$ interactions with isoscalar target in the 3 – 30 GeV energy range have been presented. The data were obtained with the IHEP-JINR Neutrino Detector in the “natural” neutrino beams of the U-70 accelerator. Neutrino fluxes were obtained by averaging the spectra, based on the calculations with the use of the experimental data on secondary particle yields from the target and muon fluxes measurements in 9 gaps of the muon filter, as well as the spectra determined from quasi-elastic events and spectra defined by extrapolating differential distributiondσ/dy in the regiony=0. The significant deviation from the linear dependence forσtot versus neutrino energy is determined in the energy range less than 15 GeV.

The total cross section of the processe+e− →hadrons has been measured in the center-of-mass energy range between 7.25 and 10.34 GeV using the MD-1 detector at the VEPP-4 collider. The ratioR=σ(e+e− →hadrons)/σ(e+e− →μ+μ−) was found to be constant in this energy range with the average value of 3.58±0.02±0.14.

The reaction π−p→η′η′n has been studied atpπ=37 GeV/c. Total of 14 events of this reaction have been selected. It has been shown that in the effective mass spectrum of the η′η′ system the events are concentrated mainly near the reaction threshold, which might be caused by the decayX(1910)→η′η′. The reaction cross-section has been evaluated: σ(π−p→η′η′n)=110±40 nb.

The results of a search for narrow resonances ine+e− annihilation at centre-of-mass energies between 7.23 and 10.34 GeV are presented. The experiment was performed using the MD-1 detector at the VEPP-4 storage ring. The total luminosity integral of 16 pb−1 was taken. There is no evidence that new states exist. The upper limits on the leptonic widthΓee of possible resonances are less, by a factor of 10–80, than theΓee for the ϒ(1S) meson.

We present inclusive ¶ and K *0 (892) cross sections and Feynman x -spectra in K + p collisions at 250 GeV/ c . In the K + fragmentation region, x > 0.2, the ratio of ¶ to K *0 (892) is used to estimate the strangeness suppression factor λ , with the result γ =0.17 ± 0.02 (stat ± 0.01 (syst). We see no evidence for an energy dependence of λ in the CM energy range 7.8 ≤ s ≤21.7 GeV.
