In a streamer-chamber experiment at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, we observed hadron production in inelastic collisions of 14-GeV positive muons in a liquid hydrogen target. We report on the experiment, the analysis, and the resulting cross sections for hadronic prongs as well as the charged-hadron multiplicity distributions.

Particle Multiplicities in K- p Interactions at 32-GeV/c

The inclusive cross section and the average multiplicity are evaluated for most of the charged ( π ± , p, K ± ) and neutral (γ, π 0 , K 0 , K 0 , Λ, Λ , n ) particles produced in 32 GeV/ c K − p interactions; corresponding results are obtained for each charged topology separately. New results are given for the total charged multiplicity cross sections. The average longitudinal momentum of neutrals is found to be roughly equal to that of charged particles. The π + and π − multiplicity distributions are reconstructed and compared to the π 0 and to the total charged multiplicity distributions.

Total Cross-Sections for Charged Current Neutrino and anti-neutrino Interactions in BEBC in the Energy Range 20-GeV to 200-GeV

Phys.Lett.B 70 (1977) 273, 1977.
Inspire Record 121301 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.27526

The charged-current cross sections for neutrinos and antineutrinos on nucleons in the energy range 20–200 GeV are given. Taken in conjunction with the previous Gargamelle results, they show that σ E is almost constant with energy for antineutrinos, and falls with energy for neutrinos. The value of 〈q 2 〉 E decreases with energy for both neutrinos and antineutrinos, and these deviations from exact Bjorken scaling are consistent with those observed in electron and muon inelastic scattering. We find no evidence for new heavy quark states with right-handed coupling.

Normalized Small Y Cross-Sections for Neutrinos and anti-neutrinos at High-Energy

Phys.Rev.Lett. 39 (1977) 741, 1977.

We present results on flux-normalized neutrino and antineutrino cross sections near y=0 from data obtained in the Fermilab narrow-band beam. We conclude that values of σ0=dσdy|y=0 are consistent with rising linearly with energy over the range 45<~Eν<~20.5 GeV. The separate averages of ν and ν¯, each measured to 4%, are equal to well within the errors. The best fit for the combined data gives σ0E=(0.719±0.035)×10−38 cm2/GeV at an average Eν of 100 GeV.

Production of Dimuons in 16-GeV/c pi p Interactions

Phys.Rev.Lett. 40 (1978) 136, 1978.
Inspire Record 121404 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.20920

A clear, prompt dimuon signal has been observed in a low-statistics streamer-chamber experiment with 16-GeV/c πp interactions. The good mass resolution makes it possible to identify the contributions from ρ and ω decays and η and ω Dalitz decays. An excess of events is observed in the mass region ∼400-600 MeV which is not accounted for by the above-mentioned decays.

Measurements of Muon-neutrino n and anti-Muon-neutrino n Charged Current Total Cross-Sections

Phys.Rev.Lett. 39 (1977) 1595, 1977.

Measurements of flux-normalized neutrino and antineutrino total charged-current cross sections (σ) in the energy range 45<E<205 GeV are presented. We see no evidence for the anomalous sharp rise in σν¯σν reported by earlier authors. The neutrino cross section rises linearly with energy and with σE about 18% smaller than other measurements below 10 GeV. The average antineutrino slope at 55 GeV is consistent with measurements at low energy; however, a (20 ± 10)% increase is indicated over our energy range.

INCLUSIVE PRODUCTION OF K*+- (890) AND SIGMA+- (1385) RESONANCES IN ANTI-P P INTERACTIONS AT 14.75-GEV/C

Phys.Rev.D 20 (1979) 1029-1036, 1979.
Inspire Record 144992 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.24210

The inclusive and semi-inclusive cross sections for K*±(890) and Σ±(1385) resonances are determined in p¯p interactions at 14.75 GeV/c. They account for a large fraction of the KS0 and Λ0 produced. The K*-resonance production also affects the low-pT2 distribution of inclusive KS0. The x distributions of the resonance production are studied in terms of a simple quark-recombination model.

INCLUSIVE DELTA++ (1232) AND SIGMA+- (1385) PRODUCTION IN K- P INTERACTIONS AT 32-GEV/C. FRANCE-SOVIET UNION AND CERN-SOVIET UNION COLLABORATIONS

Inspire Record 148164 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.15987

We have studied inclusiveΔ++ (1232),∑+ (1385), and∑− (1385) baryon resonance production inK−p interactions at 32 GeV/c. The inclusive and topological cross sections are estimated and compared with published results at lower energies. No energy variation of the cross section is observed forΔ++ (1232) and only a slight decrease is seen in case of∑± (1385). The production properties are investigated through longitudinal and transverse momentum distributions. TheΔ++ (1232) is dominantly produced in the target fragmentation region. The∑+ (1385) is produced both in the target fragmentation region and in the central region, while the∑− (1385) is predominantly produced in the central region. About 20% of the final state protons are produced via aΔ++ (1232) decay and about 25% of the Λ produced come from the decay of∑+ (1385) and∑− (1385).

We present data on the reaction ν p → μ + pπ − from an exposure of the Fermilab 15 ft hydrogen bubble chamber. The channel cross section for 5 GeV < E ν < 70 GeV and M( p π − ) < 1.9 GeV is σ = (27 ± 5) × 10 −40 cm 2 . This cross section is dominated by the I = 1 2 production amplitude.

Inclusive $\rho^0$ Production in Anti-neutrino $p$ Charged Current Interactions

Phys.Lett.B 91 (1980) 307-310, 1980.
Inspire Record 8534 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.6495

Using data from the Fermilab 15 ft hydrogen bubble chamber, we have studied inclusive ϱ 0 production in antineutrino-proton charged-current interactions. We measure (0.21 ± 0.03) ϱ 0 /event, corresponding to ϱ 0 / π − =0.12 ± 0.02. As a function of Q 2 and for hadronic masses above a threshold region, the ϱ 0 / π − ratio shows little variation. At least 50% of the ϱ 0 's are consistent with coming from the current fragmentation region. The results agree reasonably well with the predictions of the quark fragmentation model of Feynman and field.
