The production of Υ mesons in pp collisions at $ \sqrt{s}=7 $ and 8 TeV is studied with the LHCb detector using data samples corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1 fb$^{−1}$ and 2 fb$^{−1}$ respectively. The production cross-sections and ratios of cross-sections are measured as functions of the meson transverse momentum p and rapidity y, for p < 30 GeV/c and 2.0 < y < 4.5.

Measurement of forward $J/\psi$ production cross-sections in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV

The production of J/ψ mesons in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of $ \sqrt{s}=13 $ TeV is studied with the LHCb detector. Cross-section measurements are performed as a function of the transverse momentum p$_{T}$ and the rapidity y of the J/ψ meson in the region p$_{T}$ < 14 GeV/c and 2.0 < y < 4.5, for both prompt J/ψ mesons and J/ψ mesons from b-hadron decays. The production cross-sections integrated over the kinematic coverage are 15.30 ± 0.03 ± 0.86 μb for prompt J/ψ and 2.34 ± 0.01 ± 0.13 μb for J/ψ from b-hadron decays, assuming zero polarization of the J/ψ meson. The first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. The cross-section reported for J/ψ mesons from b-hadron decays is used to extrapolate to a total $ b\overline{b} $ cross-section. The ratios of the cross-sections with respect to $ \sqrt{s}=8 $ TeV are also determined.

Measurement of the exclusive Υ production cross-section in pp collisions at $ \sqrt{s}=7 $ TeV and 8 TeV

A study is presented of central exclusive production of Υ(nS) states, where the Υ(nS) resonances decay to the μ$^{+}$ μ$^{−}$ final state, using pp collision data recorded by the LHCb experiment. The cross-section is measured in the rapidity range 2 < y(Υ) < 4.5 where the muons are reconstructed in the pseudorapidity range 2 < η(μ$^{±}$) < 4.5. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 2.9 fb$^{−1}$ and was collected at centre-of-mass energies of 7 TeV and 8 TeV. The measured Υ(1S) and Υ(2S) production cross-sections are $ \sigma \left( pp\to pY(1S)p\right)=9.0\pm 2.1\pm 1.7\kern0.5em \mathrm{p}\mathrm{b}\kern0.5em \mathrm{and}\kern0.5em \sigma \left( pp\to pY(2S)p\right)=1.3\pm 0.8\pm 0.3\kern0.5em \mathrm{p}\mathrm{b}, $ where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. The Υ(1S) crosssection is also measured as a function of rapidity and is found to be in good agreement with Standard Model predictions. An upper limit is set at 3.4 pb at the 95% confidence level for the exclusive Υ(3S) production cross-section, including possible contamination from χ$_{b}$ (3P ) → Υ(3S)γ decays.

A measurement of the production cross-section for Z bosons that decay to muons is presented. The data were recorded by the LHCb detector during pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV, and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb$^{−1}$. The cross-section is measured for muons in the pseudorapidity range 2.0 < η < 4.5 with transverse momenta p$_{T}$ > 20 GeV/c. The dimuon mass is restricted to 60 < M$_{μ}$ +$_{μ}$ − < 120 GeV/c$^{2}$. The measured cross-section is $ {\sigma}_{Z\to \mu }{+}_{\mu }-=\left(76.0\pm 0.3\pm 0.5\pm 1.0\pm 1.3\right)\mathrm{p}\mathrm{b} $

Measurement of forward $\rm Z\rightarrow e^+e^-$ production at $\sqrt{s}=8$ TeV

A measurement of the cross-section for Z-boson production in the forward region of pp collisions at 8 TeV centre-of-mass energy is presented. The measurement is based on a sample of Z → e$^{+}$e$^{−}$ decays reconstructed using the LHCb detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.0 fb$^{−1}$. The acceptance is defined by the requirements 2.0 < η < 4.5 and p$_{T}$ > 20 GeV for the pseudorapidities and transverse momenta of the leptons. Their invariant mass is required to lie in the range 60-120 GeV. The cross-section is determined to be $ \sigma \left(\mathrm{pp}\to \mathrm{Z}\to {\mathrm{e}}^{+}{\mathrm{e}}^{-}\right)=93.81\pm 0.41\left(\mathrm{stat}\right)\pm 1.48\left(\mathrm{syst}\right)\pm 1.14\left(\mathrm{lumi}\right)\mathrm{p}\mathrm{b}, $ where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second reflects all systematic effects apart from that arising from the luminosity, which is given as the third uncertainty. Differential cross-sections are presented as functions of the Z-boson rapidity and of the angular variable ϕ$^{∗}$, which is related to the Z-boson transverse momentum.

The differential cross-section as a function of rapidity has been measured for the exclusive production of $J/\psi$ and $\psi(2S)$ mesons in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV, using data collected by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 930 pb$^{-1}$. The cross-sections times branching fractions to two muons having pseudorapidities between 2.0 and 4.5 are measured to be $$\begin{array}{rl} \sigma_{pp\rightarrow J/\psi\rightarrow{\mu^+}{\mu^-}}(2.0<\eta_{\mu^\pm }<4.5)=&291\pm 7\pm19 {\rm \ pb},\\ \sigma_{pp\rightarrow\psi(2S)\rightarrow{\mu^+}{\mu^-}}(2.0<\eta_{\mu^\pm}<4.5)=&6.5\pm 0.9\pm 0.4 {\rm \ pb},\end{array}$$ where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. The measurements agree with next-to-leading order QCD predictions as well as with models that include saturation effects.

The production cross-sections of B mesons are measured in pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV, using data collected with the LHCb detector corresponding to a integrated luminosity of 0.36 fb(−1). The B (+), B (0) and mesons are reconstructed in the exclusive decays B (+) → J/ψK (+), B (0) → J/ψK (*0) and , with J/ψ → μ (+) μ (−), K (*0) → K (+)π(−) and ϕ → K (+) K ( )−( ). The differential cross-sections are measured as functions of B meson transverse momentum p (T) and rapidity y, in the range 0 < p (T) < 40 GeV/c and 2.0 < y < 4.5. The integrated cross-sections in the same p (T) and y ranges, including charge-conjugate states, are measured to be where the third uncertainty arises from the pre-existing branching fraction measurements.

The production of J/ψ and mesons in pp collisions at TeV is studied with the LHCb detector. The J/ψ and mesons are reconstructed in the μ (+) μ (−) decay mode and the signal yields are determined with a fit to the μ (+) μ (−) invariant mass distributions. The analysis is performed in the rapidity range 2. 0 < y < 4. 5 and transverse momentum range 0 < p ( )T( ) < 14 (15) GeV/c of the J/ψ mesons. The J/ψ and production cross-sections and the fraction of J/ψ mesons from b-hadron decays are measured as a function of the meson p (T) and y.

Exclusive $J/\psi$ and $\psi$(2S) production in pp collisions at $ \sqrt{s} = 7$ TeV

Exclusive $J/\psi$ and $\psi(2S)$ vector meson production has been observed in the dimuon channel using the LHCb detector. The cross-section times branching fractions to two muons with pseudorapidities between 2.0 and 4.5 are measured to be \begin{equation*} \sigma_{pp\rightarrow J/\psi (\rightarrow \mu^{+} \mu^{-})} (2.0 <\eta_{\mu^{\pm}}< 4.5) = 307 \pm 21 \pm 36~\text{pb}, \end{equation*} \begin{equation*} \sigma_{pp\rightarrow \psi(2S) (\rightarrow \mu^{+} \mu^{-})} (2.0 <\eta_{\mu^{\pm}}< 4.5) = 7.8 \pm 1.3 \pm 1.0~\text{pb}, \end{equation*} where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. The measurements are found to be in good agreement with results from previous experiments and theoretical predictions. The $J/\psi$ photoproduction cross-section has been measured as a function of the photon-proton centre-of-mass energy. The results are consistent with measurements obtained at HERA and confirm a similar power law behaviour for the photoproduction cross-section.

Observation of double charm production involving open charm in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV

The production of $J/\psi$ mesons accompanied by open charm, and of pairs of open charm hadrons are observed in pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV using an integrated luminosity of $355pb^{-1}$ collected with the LHCb detector. Model independent measurements of absolute cross-sections are given together with ratios to the measured $J/\psi$ and open charm cross-sections. The properties of these events are studied and compared to theoretical predictions.

Measurement of $J/\psi$ production in $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=7~\rm{TeV}$

The production of $J/\psi$ mesons in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}$= 7 tev is studied with the LHCb detector at the LHC. The differential cross-section for prompt $J/\psi$ production is measured as a function of the $J/\psi$ transverse momentum p_{\rm T}\ and rapidity $y$ in the fiducial region $p_{\rm T}\in[0;14]$ GeV/c and $y\in[2.0;4.5]$. The differential cross-section and fraction of \j psi\ from $b$-hadron decays are also measured in the same p_{\rm T}\ and $y$ range s. The analysis is based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminos ity of 5.2 pb$^{-1}$. The measured cross-sections integrated over the fiducial region are $10.52\pm 0. 04\pm 1.40^{+1.64}_{-2.20}\mu b$ for $\mathrm{prompt}~J/\psi$ production and $1.14 \pm 0. 01\pm 0.16 \mu b$ for $J/\psi$ from $b$-hadron decays, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The $\mathrm{prompt}~J/\psi$ production cross-section is obtained assuming no $J/\psi$ polarisation and the third error indicates the acceptance uncertainty due to this assumption.

Integrated cross section in the defined fiducial region for prompt J/PSIs and for those from b-hadron decay assuming no polarisation. The second systematic error in the prompt cross section is the uncertainty related to the assumption of no polarisation.

The derived cross section for b-hadron production obtained by extrapolation to the full polar angle range using the LHCB MC based on Pythia6.4 and EvtGen and a branching ratio to J/PSI of 1.16+-0.1 PCT.

Mean PT and RMS for prompt J/PSI production (assuming unpolarised).
