We have measured the partial width and forward-backward charge asymmetry for the reaction e + e - →Z 0 →μ + μ - (γ). We obtain a partial width Γ μμ of 83.3±1.3(stat)±0.9(sys) MeV and the following values for the vector and axial vector couplings: g v =−0.062 −0.015 +0.020 and g A =−0.497 −0.005 +0.005 . From our measurement of the partial width and the mass of the Z 0 boson we determine the effective electroweak mixing angle, sin 2 θ w =0.232±0.005, and the neutral current coupling strength parameter, ϱ =0.998±0.016.

A Determination of electroweak parameters from Z0 decays into charged leptons

Phys.Lett.B 250 (1990) 183-192, 1990.
Inspire Record 299253 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.29552

We have measured the partial widths for the three reactions e + e − → Z 0 → e + e − , μ + μ − , τ + τ − . The results are Γ ee = 84.3±1.3 MeV, √ Γ ee Γ μμ =83.9±1.4 MeV, and √ Γ ee Γ ττ =83.9±1.4 MeV, where the errors are statistical. The systematic errors are estimated to be 1.0 MeV, 0.9 MeV, and 1.4 MeV, respectively. We perform a simultaneous fit to the cross sections for the e + e − →e + e − , μ + μ − , and τ + τ − data, the differential cross section as a function of polar angle for the electron data, and the forward- backward asymmetry for the muon data. We obtain the leptonic partial with Γ ℓℓ =84.0±0.9 (stat.) MeV. The systematic error is estimated to be 0.8 MeV. Also, we obtain the axial-vector and vector weak coupling constants of charged leptons, g A =−0.500±0.003 and g ν =−0.064 −0.013 +0.017 .

A Measurement of the electroweak couplings of up and down type quarks using final state photons in hadronic z0 decays

The OPAL collaboration Alexander, G. ; Allison, J. ; Allport, P.P. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 264 (1991) 219-232, 1991.
Inspire Record 316154 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.48516

The production rate of final state photons in hadronic Z 0 decays is measured as a function of y cut = M ij 2 / E cm 2 the jet resolution parameter and minimum mass of the photon-jet system. Good agreement with the theoretical expectation from an O( αα s ) matrix element calculation is observed. Comparing the measurement and the prediction for y cut = 0.06, where the experimental systematic and statistical errors and the theoretical uncertainties are small, and combining this measurement with our result for the hadronic width of the Z 0 , we derived partial widths of up and down type quarks to be Γ u = 333 ± 55 ± 72 MeV and Γ d = 358 ± 37 ± 48 MeV in agreement with the standard model expectations. We compare our yield with the QCD shower models including photon radiation. At low γ cut JETSET underestimates the photon yield, and ARIADNE describes the production rate well.

A Study of Bhabha Scattering at {PETRA} Energies

Z.Phys.C 37 (1988) 171, 1988.
Inspire Record 249557 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.45173

We report on high statistics Bhabha scattering data taken with the TASSO experiment at PETRA at center of mass energies from 12 GeV to 46.8 GeV. We present an analysis in terms of electroweak parameters of the standard model, give limits on QED cut-off parameters and look for possible signs of compositeness.

An Improved determination of the electroweak mixing angle from muon-neutrino electron scattering

Inspire Record 314000 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.18515

We are reporting an improved determination of the electroweak mixing angle sin 2 Θ w from the ratio of ν μ e to ν μ e scattering cross sections. The CHARM II detector was exposed to neutrino and antineutrino wide band beams at the 450 GeV CERN SPS. Including new data collected in 1989 we have obtained 1316 ± 56 ν μ e and 1453 ± 62 ν μ e events. From the ratio of the visible cross sections we determined sin 2 Θ 0 =0.239 ± 0.009(stat) ± 0.007(syst) without radiative corrections and g V e g A e =0.047 ± 0.046 . Combining this last result with recent results on g A e at LEP we obtain g V e = −0.023 ± 0.023.

We have measured, at an average centre-of-mass energy of 34.22 GeV a forward-backward charge asymmetry in the reaction e + e − → μ + μ − of value −0.161 ± 0.032. This demonstrates the existence of an axial vector neutral current with coupling strength of g e a g μ a =0.53 ± 0.10. We have also obtained a limit on the vector coupling strength of g e v g μ v <0.12. The Weinberg angle is found to be sin 2 θ W =0.29 +0.09 −0.11 . From the reaction e + e − → τ + τ − we have found g e a g τ a <0.34, g e v g τ v <0.55.

Total and differential cross sections for νμe→νμe and ν¯μe→ν¯μe are measured. Values for the model-independent neutral-current couplings of the electron are found to be gV=−0.107±0.035(stat)±0.028(syst) and gA=−0.514±0.023(stat)±0.028(syst). The electroweak mixing parameter sin2θW is determined to be 0.195±0.018(stat)±0.013(syst). Limits are set for the charge radius and magnetic moment of the neutrino as (〈r2〉)<0.24×10−32 cm2 and fμ<0.85×10−9 Bohr magnetons, respectively.

Electroweak Coupling Constants in the Leptonic Reactions e+ e- ---> e+ e- and e+ e- ---> mu+ mu- and Search for Scalar Leptons

Phys.Lett.B 117 (1982) 365-371, 1982.
Inspire Record 178495 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.6669

A high statistics experiment was performed on Bhabha scattering at energies between 14 and 34 GeV. Good agreement with QED was observed. The combined data on Bhabha scattering and μ pair production were found to agree with the standard theory of electroweak interaction giving sin 2 θ = 0.27 −0.07 +0.06 . Assuming for the Z 0 mass a value of 90 GeV the leptonic weak coupling constants were determined to g V 2 = −0.04 ± 0.06 and g A 2 = 0.35 ± 0.09. A search for scalar leptons sets lower limits on the mass of scalar electrons of M s e > 16.6 GeV and of scalar muons of M s μ > 16.4 GeV.

A high-statistics measurement is presented of the cross section for the process e+e−→τ+τ− at s=29 GeV from the MAC detector at PEP. A fit to the angular distribution of our sample of 10 153 events with |cosθ|<0.9 gives an asymmetry Aττ=−0.055±0.012±0.005 from which we find the product of electron and tau axial-vector weak neutral couplings gAegAτ=0.22±0.05.
