Data obtained from p-p collisions at centre-of-mass energies between 31 and 63 GeV are presented on correlations between momentum analysed forward π − , K − and p and charged particles observed in an omnidirectional hodoscope. The data show that significant correlations are present over the whole rapidity range for all three types of negative particles. The dependence on various kinematic variables suggests a cluster mechanism for the production of particles. In this picture, pions would be produced in clusters emitted in the fragmentation region while K − and p emanate from non-leading clusters.

Data, obtained from p-p collisions at centre-of-mass energies between 31 and 63 GeV, are presented on inclusive and semi-inclusive correlations between forward emitted neutrons and charged particles observed in an omnidirectional hodoscope. A total absorption spectrometer was used to detect the neutrons and to measure their energy. Significant correlations are observed over the whole rapidity range. The data suggest that neutrons result from the decay of clusters emitted in the fragmentation region.

Significant two-particle correlations of dynamical origin are observed in 200 GeV/c π−p inclusive interactions. This is demonstrated by comparison with kinematic correlations calculated from an independent-particle-emission model. Two distinct correlation types are observed: (a) unlike-particle correlations with correlation length ∼ 1.3 rapidity units independent of azimuthal separation, and (b) like-particle correlations with correlation length ∼ 0.4 rapidity units which are observed only for small azimuthal separations.

Correlations among the produced particles in interactions of 800-GeV protons with nuclei in photographic emulsion provide evidence for nonindependent production of the secondary particles. Bose-Einstein correlations between like-sign pions have been investigated in e+e− annihilation at √s =29 GeV using the Time Projection Chamber detector at the SLAC e+e− storage ring PEP. The production rate of like-sign pion pairs with small relative momentum is found to be increased by more than 50% over the rate expected for uncorrelated production of pions. From the correlation length, a typical source radius of 0.65 fm is derived. Data are consistent with a spherical shape of the pion source. No dependence of radius or correlation strength on the event multiplicity is observed.

A sample of 8000 interactions of 250 GeV/c π+ andK+ mesons on Al and Au nuclei, is used to search for intermittency effects by calculating the normalized factorial moments of order two to four. No significant effect is observed in the higher moments. Two-body rapidity correlations and Bose-Einstein correlations in these interactions are presented.

The invariant cross-section slope of the pp→ π + π − +X process as a function of p T is found to have a break near 1 GeV/ c . Fitting the cross section by a sum of two exponents gives the values of powers (12.3±0.9)(GeV/ c ) −1 and (8.7±0.6)(GeV/ c ) −1 . The experimental points at p T ⩾1 GeV/ c are significantly higher than predictions based on hard scattering models such as QCD and CIM.

We measured the cross sections of hadron pair production (π, K, p) with symmetric momenta produced back-to-back in the c.m.s. in pp collisions in the range 0.45 ⩽ P T ⩽ 1.99 GeV/ c . Particle correlations showing dependence on quantum numbers and transverse momentum are presented. The data are discussed in the framework of parton models.
