Using data taken at PETRA we present results on deep inelastic electron photon scattering at momentum transfers 1 < Q 2 < 15 GeV 2 . The results are expressed in terms of the photon structure function F 2 and are compared with QCD predictions and “hadronic” models of the photon. The pointlike component of the photon is found to be dominant.

Inspire Record 173430 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.23843

Two-photon interactions have been studied with the SLAC-LBL Mark II magnetic detector at SPEAR. The cross section for η′ production by the reaction e+e−→e+e−η′ has been measured at beam energies from 2.0 to 3.7 GeV. The radiative width Γγγ(η′) has been determined to be 5.8±1.1 keV (±20% systematic uncertainty). Upper limits on the radiative widths of the f(1270), A2(1310), and f′(1515) tensor mesons have been determined. A search has been made for production of the E(1420) by γγ collisions, but no signal is observed.

Inclusive Neutral Strange Particle Production in Neutrino $p$ Interactions

Nucl.Phys.B 194 (1982) 1-20, 1982.
Inspire Record 166157 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.34244

In a selected sample of 6770 charged current (CC) events of νp interactions with 〈 E ν 〉 = 43 GeV and 〈W〉 = 4.6 GeV , 359 K 0 , 180 Λ and 13 Λ have been observed, which corresponds to a corrected production rate at least one neutral strange particle in (17.4±0.8)% of the CC events. The ratio of the inclusive Λ to K 0 production cross section is found to be 0.26±0.03. The number of CC events containing at least one K 0 increases with increasing E ν and Q 2 , while the CC events containing at least one Λ remain practically constant. The fractions of the total hadronic energy carried by K 0 and Λ are found to be approximately the same in νp as in ep and μp interactions. In the hadronic c.m.s., the K 0 are produced mostly forwards, the Λ mostly backwards, with asymmetry parameters of +0.32±0.02 and −0.45±0.06, respectively. The total strange particle production cross section is estimated to be (25±4)% of the cross section for production of CC events with W >1.5 GeV and that for charm production (10±2)% of the CC cross section well above charm threshold ( W >3 GeV). The production of the resonances K ∗+ (890) and Σ + (1385) has been observed. The production rate of K ∗+ (890) is comparable to that of D ∗+ (2009), above the corresponding thresholds.

Determination of the Quark Density Ratio $d(x)/u(x)$ in the Proton

The Aachen-Bonn-CERN-Munich-Oxford collaboration Allen, P. ; Grassler, H. ; Lanske, D. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 103 (1981) 71-74, 1981.
Inspire Record 10562 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.31204

Data from an exposure of BEBC filled with hydrogen to a wideband neutrino beam are analysed to yield the structure function F v p 2 ( x ) for x > 0.2. Using our results in combination with data from electron-proton and muon-proton scattering, the quark density ratio d/u is determined as a function of x . The dominance u at large x is clearly seen. The results are compared with theoretical predictions.

Measurement of the Ratio of Total and Differential Cross-sections on Neutron and Proton for Charged Current Neutrino Events

The BEBC TST Neutrino collaboration Armenise, N. ; Calicchio, M. ; Erriquez, O. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 102 (1981) 374-380, 1981.
Inspire Record 164906 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.31183

Charged-current neutrino interactions have been analysed in a sample of pictures from BEBC equipped with a TST. Using a method independent of both the neutrino flux and nuclear interaction corrections, the ratio R = σ n / σ p has been measured. The result is R =1.98±0.19 for the ratio of total cross sections. Bjorken x distributions for proton and neutron targets and for u and d quarks are compared.

A Measurement of the Cross-Section for Four Pion Production in gamma gamma Collisions at SPEAR

Phys.Lett.B 103 (1981) 153-156, 1981.
Inspire Record 165016 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.31168

We present a measurement of the cross section for the reaction e + e − → e + e − π + π − π + π − at SPEAR. This channel is found to be large and dominated by the process γγ → ϱ 0 ϱ 0 → π + π − π + π − . The cross section, which is small just above the four-pion threshold, exhibits a large enhancement near the ϱ 0 ϱ 0 threshold.

Phys.Rev.Lett. 46 (1981) 1047-1050, 1981.
Inspire Record 169865 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.20658

We have made, for the first time, a direct reconstruction of the pp elastic-scattering matrix at 579 MeV from a series of experiments performed at the Schweizerisches Institut für Nuklearforschung polarized-beam line. Fifteen observables consisting of the polarization, two-spin correlation and transfer parameters, and three-spin parameters were measured at seven angles between 66° and 90° (c. m.). The experimental results and reconstructed amplitudes are presented and compared to phase shift analysis.

Experimental Limits on the Strength of Weak Neutral Currents in Lepton Pair Production at {PETRA} Energies

Phys.Lett.B 99 (1981) 281-286, 1981.
Inspire Record 156813 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.27121

The processes e + e − → e + e − and μ + μ − have been studied at PETRA using the JADE detector. The data, which were collected at s -values of up to 1300 GeV 2 have been analysed in terms of an electro-weak extension of QED to obtain values for the weak vector and axial vector couplings in the lepton sector. The values obtained agree with the predictions of the standard Salam-Weinberg model and the data are further analysed in terms of this model to obtain the limits 0.10 < sin 2 ϑ w < 0.40 (68% CL). The mass of the neutral weak gauge boson is deduced to be greater than 51 GeV/ c 2 .

INELASTIC ELECTRON PHOTON SCATTERING AT MODERATE FOUR MOMENTUM TRANSFERS

The PLUTO collaboration Berger, Christoph ; Genzel, H. ; Grigull, R. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 99 (1981) 287-291, 1981.
Inspire Record 155594 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.27125

We present new high statistics data on hadron production in photon-photon reactions. The data are analyzed in terms of an electron-photon scattering formalism. The dependence of the total cross section of Q 2 , the four-momentum transfer squared of the scattered electron, and on the mass W of the hadronic system is investigated. The data are compared to predictions from Vector-Meson Dominance and the quark model.

Nucleon Structure Functions From Measurements of Inelastic Neutrino and Anti-neutrino Interactions

Heagy, S.M. ; Benvenuti, A. ; Cline, D. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.D 23 (1981) 1045, 1981.
Inspire Record 9806 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.24163

This paper presents the final results on charged-current neutrino and antineutrino interactions with nuclei from experiment E-310 at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. The data sample, consisting of 21 578 neutrino-induced and 7358 antineutrino-induced events within the fiducial region in the energy range 20<E<325 GeV, is exhibited first to demonstrate the basic properties and kinematic regions represented. The dependence of the nucleon structure functions on the dimensionless variable x and on neutrino energy is then described. Lastly, the variations of the structure functions with x and Q2 are presented. The emphasis throughout has been to understand the effects on the final results of uncertainties in the systematic corrections required by the data. Comparisons with the results of other neutrino experiments are made.
