Measurement of $\Delta - \sigma_L$ in Proton Proton Scattering Between 300-{MeV} and 800-{MeV}

We have measured the difference between proton-proton total cross sections for parallel and antiparallel longitudinal spin states [ΔσL=σtot(⇄)−σtot(⇄)] at 13 incident energies between 300 and 800 MeV, which cover the region of possible D21 and F33 diproton resonances. The present experiment has strongly confirmed the structure previously observed at the Argonne Zero Gradient Synchrotron. No additional narrow structure has been found.

Observation of a $K \bar{K}$ Enhancement at 1.85-{GeV} in the Reaction $K^- P \to K \bar{K} \Lambda$ at 8.25-{GeV}/c

In a high statistics ( ∼150 eV μb ) bubble chamber experiment on K − p interactions at 8.25 GeV c , the study of the reaction K − p → KK Λ provides evidence for an enhancement in the KK system with a mass of (1850 ± 10) MeV and a width of (80 −30 +40 ) MeV. Its possible identification with the missing isosinglet of the 3 − nonet is discussed. A K ∗ K decay mode is also observed.

Diffractive Production of 3 $\pi$ States at 63-{GeV} and 94-{GeV}

Diffractive production of the 3 π system has been studied at 63 and 94 GeV using a two magnet spectrometer with high, uniform acceptance. The total number of events used in the analysis is ∼600 000. The A 2 meson is shown to be diffractively produced. The existence of a resonant component in both the 1 + and 2 − enhancements is established and resonance parameters for the corresponding A 1 and A 3 mesons are given. There are several indications in the data of states which would correspond to radial excitations in the quark model.

Measurement of the Difference in $P N$ Total Cross-sections in Pure Longitudinal Spin States

The total-cross-section difference in pure longitudinal spin states for p−d interactions has been measured at momenta from 1.1 to 6 GeV/c. Spin-dependent Glauber-type corrections and other corrections have been made to obtain ΔσL(pn) and ΔσL(I=0). These measurements are of fundamental interest and will also help in determining the existence and nature of dibaryon resonances.

ELECTROPRODUCTION CROSS-SECTIONS IN THE RESONANCE REGION MEASURED AT LARGE SCATTERING ANGLES

To complete data on resonance electroproduction we constructed an electron spectrometer with large angular and momentum acceptance. As a first result inclusive cross sections for an invariant hadronic mass 1.2<W<1.7 GeV and a four momentum transfer squared 0.5<Q2<1.5 (GeV/c)2 and for values of the polarization parameter 0.1<ɛ<0.25 are presented. Combining our results with the SLAC 4°-data we obtain σL/σT in the specified kinematical range.

Search for structure in pi- p ---> lambda k0 at sigma k threshold

We have measured the cross section, the angular distribution, and the Λ polarization for the reaction π−p→ΛK0. A spark-chamber spectrometer was used to collect 8400 ΛK0 events at fourteen beam momenta near ΣK threshold. Our data do not show the prominent cross-section enhancement suggested by some previous experiments. However, detailed structure in the cross section and the angular distribution agrees well with a simple model which includes a cusp effect at ΣK threshold.

A study of the reaction π − p → X − p based on 1.27 × 10 6 events, corresponding to a mean sensitivity of 200 events/μb, is presented. Properties of the exclusive channels π − p → π − π 0 p, π + π − π − p, π + π − π − π 0 p, π + π + π − π − π − p and π + π + π − π − π − π 0 p are discussed.

Search for Narrow Resonances in $e^+ e^-$ Annihilation at $c$.m. Energies Between 33.0-{GeV} and 36.72-{GeV}

A search for narrow resonances in e + e − annihilation between 33.00 and 36.72 GeV is reported. No evidence is found for the existence of such states. The 90% confidence upper limit on the integrated resonance cross section is determined to be 28 nb MeV, a value significantly below that expected for the lowest t t bound state.

Electroproduction of eta-mesons at the s(11)(1535) resonance

The reaction e − + p → e − + p + η has been studied in the region of the S 11 (1535)-resonance by detecting the recoil proton in coincidence with the scattered electron. The reaction has been observed at three four-momentum transfers of the virtual photon: q 2 = 0.2, 0.28 and 0.4 (GeV/ c ). First results of the differential cross section measurements are given and compared with quark model calculations.
