A Study of Inclusive Xi-, Xi (1530) and $\omega^-$ Production in $K^- p$ Interactions at 8.25-{GeV}/$c$

Inclusive Ξ − production is studied in K − p interactions at 8.25 GeV/ c using about 8000 events. An analysis based on the triple-Regge model shows that the Λ α − Λ γ and Σ β − Σ δ exchanges explain the forward Ξ − production. Ξ(1530) properties are also studied and are found to be similar to those of Ξ − 's. Finally, a study of the production of Ω − based on 67 events shows that Ω's are also produced by hyperon exchange.

Inclusive Production of Multistrange Hyperons From 11-{GeV}/$c K^- p$ Interactions

Large samples of inclusively produced Ξ−, Ω−, and Ξ0(1530) events are presented from a 1427 events/μb exposure of the large-aperture superconducting-solenoid spectrometer to an 11-GeV/c K− beam. Production characteristics of these states are compared with other data and shown to be consistent with hyperon exchange. Polarization of Ξ− shows an increase in magnitude with both Feynman x and transverse momentum. The Ξ− decay parameters are measured to be αΞ=-0.40±0.03 and ΦΞ=(5±10)° . Results of searches for higher-mass hyperons are presented. The Ξ−(1820)→Ξ0(1530)π− decay is observed, while we fail to confirm the existence of the Σ+(3170).

INCLUSIVE PRODUCTION OF XI- AND XI* (1530) IN K- p INTERACTIONS AT 10-GeV/c AND 16-GeV/c

The inclusive production of Ξ − and Ξ ∗0 (1530) is investigated in K − p interactions at 10 and 16 GeV/ c . The inclusive production cross sections are 172 ± 20 μ b and 135 ± 15 μ b for the Ξ − , and 43 ± 7 μ b and 32 ± 5 μ b for the Ξ ∗0 (1530) at 10 and 16 GeV /c , respectively. In the beam momentum range up to 16 GeV/ c , the energy dependence of the cross section for Ξ − production in K − p interactions is similar to Σ − production in π − p interactions. It is, instead, different from the energy behaviour of Σ − production cross sections observed in π − p interactions. The Ξ − and Ξ ∗0 (1530) are both produced more in the forward ( x > 0) than in the backward hemisphere, indicating the presence of hyperon-exchange processes.

Production of S = -2 and -3 Baryon States in 6.5-{GeV}/$c K^- P$ Interactions

We present results from a high statistics (46 events/μ;b) experiment on K − p interactions in the Argonne 12 foot bubble chamber. In particular we make a systematic search for Ξ ∗ resonances. We confirm recent evidence of a Ξ(2370), and see a number of other well established states. We also give cross sections for various exclusive and inclusive reactions, including those in which θ − are produced.
