The inclusive reaction pp → Λ + X ++ at 19 GeV/ c beam momentum has been analyzed in terms of the triple-Regge formalism. A good description of the structure function is achieved for events with | t | < 4 (GeV/ c ) 2 . The effective trajectory obtained from fits to the M 2 / s distribution in different t bins is α R ( t ) = −(0.38 ± 0.11) + (1.15 ± 0.07) t , which holds up to a | t | value of 4 (GeV/ c ) 2 . This is consistent with the K trajectory rather than the K ∗ trajectory which has been reported from other experiments.

Data are reported on the momentum distributions of Λ, Λ (1520), φ (1020), Λ and p , inclusively produced between 1° and 2° with respect to one of the primary proton beams at the CERN Intersecting Storage Rings. In addition, the decay angular distribution of the Λ(1520), the ratio of the cross sections for the production of Σ − (1385) and Σ + (1385) and the ratios among different charge states of the pairs Λπ , Λ K, Δ ++ (1232) π and ππ have been measured. These data are confronted with current ideas on fragmentation.

Significant differences are observed between forward-produced Δ ++ (1232) and Λ 0 's in pp interactions and their corresponding anti-particles in p p interactions, as expected from quark counting and single q q annihilation. Results are presented from a study of inclusive neutral strange particle production by a 147 GeV/ c tagged π + /K + /p beam in the Fermilab 30-inch hydrogen bubble chamber. The experiment made use of the proportional hybrid spectrometer system. Results are based on 995 K S 0 , 485 Λ, and 83 Λ found in a sample of 132 000 pictures. Cross sections are given for inclusive production of these particles by each of the three beam particles, and comparisons are made with measurements at other energies. Topological cross sections are also calculated, and KNO multiplicity scaling is investigated. Distributions are presented of invariant cross sections as functions of the Feynman scaling variable x and c.m. rapidity y . The transverse momentum-squared distributions with their fitted slopes are also given. Comparisons are made of the production characteristics for the three beam types.

The inclusive cross section for the production ofKs0 mesons, Λ and\(\bar \Lambda\) particles in proton-proton interactions at\(\sqrt s= 63\) GeV is presented. The produced particles have been detected in the full phase space. Behaviour of the longitudinal and transversal depandences of the cross sections are discussed. The total production cross sections fors0 mesons and Λ particles was determined to\(\sigma _{{\rm K}_S^0 }= (25.5 \pm 1.4)\) mb andσΛ=(7.8±1.2) mb respectively. A strong energy dependence of the production cross sections is observed.

Charged- and neutral-particle production from 400-GeV/c pp collisions are measured simultaneously using the Fermilab 15-ft bubble chamber. The π0 and K0 cross sections are rising at Fermilab energies, while the Λ0 cross section remains fairly constant. Similarly, the average number of π0's and K0's increases as a function of the number of negative particles in an event, yet no such dependence is noted for the Λ0's. The ratio of average number of π0 to average number of π− per inelastic collisions is found to be constant at Serpukhov and Fermilab energies (40 to 400 GeV/c) and equal to 1.22±0.02. Cross sections for Σ0 and Σ¯0 production are measured and limits are found for η0 and ω0 production. Neutral- and charged-pion correlations are compared with five pion-production models.

We report Λ 0 -hyperon polarization measurements at the CERN intersecting storage rings from √ s of 31 to 62 GeV. P Λ 0 changes insignificantly, +(0.8±1.7)%, over this range of √ s . However, P Λ 0 is observed to grow with Feynman- x F and with transverse momentum. At an average p t of 1.1 GeV/ c , P Λ 0 depends linearly on x F and approaches −40% at x F =0.8.

Results on cross sections, longitudinal and transverse momentum distributions forKs/0, Λ and\(\bar \Lambda \) production in 360GeV/cpp interactions are presented as obtained from EHS equipped with the Rapid Cycling Bubble Chamber (RCBC). The Λ and\(\bar \Lambda \) polarizations are measured. The cross section for the diffractive components is given using the recoil spectrum. The data are discussed with respect to charm production.

Using a quark-diquark fragmentation model, in which either the Field-Feynman or the Lund model is coupled with a quark-diquark distribution function, we study transverse momentum distributions,pT, for the inclusive reactionspp→hadron +anything at 360 GeV/c. We find that a primordial mean transverse momentum 〈kT〉≃0.4 GeV/c can well reproduce thepT2 distributions of charged hadrons, π0,Ks0, Λ0,K* and Σ* and the Feynmanx−pT correlations. We confirm that a diquark in a proton plays an important rôle in reproducing thex−pT correlation of Λ0.
