Charm-charm correlation properties are studied in detail for the first time using a sample of D D pairs produced in 360 GeV/ c π − p interactions. The data are compared with various models of charm production.

A determination of branching ratios for D meson decays into all charged particle final states is reported. The values obtained: (D ± → K ∓ π ± π ± /all D ± ) = (14 ± 6)% and ( D 0 /D 0 → K ± π ∓ π + π − /all D 0 /D 0 ) = (10 ± 4)%, are higher than those currently accepted. This result, if confirmed, implies a corresponding reduction in the accepted values for some total cross section measurements. Revised inclusive cross sections for D meson production in the forward hemisphere in π − p and pp interactions at 360 GeV/ c , are presented.

We have measured the inclusive production properties of D and D messons produced from pp interactions at s =27.4 GeV . The differential production cross section is well represented by the empirical form d 2 σ d x F d P 2 T = 1 2 [σ ( D / D )(n+1)b](1−|x F |) n exp (−bp 2 T ) with n=4.9 ± 0.5, b=(1.0±0.1)( GeV /c) −2 , and the inclusive D / D cross section σ ( D / D ) is (30.2±3.3) ωb. The QCD fusion model predicts D / D production which is in good agreement with our data except for the magnitude of the cross section which depends sensitively on the assumed mass of the charm quark.

Results of fitting the differential distributions in x F and p T 2 of D mesons produced in 400 GeV/ c p-p interactions to the form d 2 σ d x F d p T 2 ∝(1−x F ) n exp [−(p T 2 /〈p T 2 〉)] are discussed. The D + distribution is found to be relatively hard [ n =3.1±0.8〈 P t 2 〉=1.32±0.27 (GeV/ c ) 2 ] and the D̄ 0 distribution relatively soft [ n =8.1±1.9,〈 p T 2 〉=0.62±0.14 (GeV/ c ) 2 ] compared to the average for all D's [ n =4.9±0.5,〈 p T 2 〉=0.99±0.10 (GeV/ c ) 2 ]. It is suggested that these distributions could reflect contribution of leading di-quarks in pp collisions. Comparison is made with evidence for leading quarks in charm production in 360 GeV/ cπ − p interactions.
The invariant (C=INV) and non-invariant (C=NON-INV) distributions are fitted to (1-XL)**POWER. Pt distribution is fitted to EXP(-PT**2/SLOPE).

Measurements of $\gamma p \rightarrow K^{+} \Lambda$ and $\gamma p \rightarrow K^{+} \Sigma^0$ cross-sections have been obtained with the photon tagging facility and the Crystal Ball calorimeter at MAMI-C. The measurement uses a novel $K^+$ meson identification technique in which the weak decay products are characterized using the energy and timing characteristics of the energy deposit in the calorimeter, a method that has the potential to be applied at many other facilities. The fine center-of-mass energy ($W$) resolution and statistical accuracy of the new data results in a significant impact on partial wave analyses aiming to better establish the excitation spectrum of the nucleon. The new analyses disfavor a strong role for quark-diquark dynamics in the nucleon.

The measurement of $K^{*}(892)^0$ resonance production via its $K^{+}\pi^{-}$ decay mode in inelastic p+p collisions at beam momentum 158 GeV/$c$ ($\sqrt{s_{NN}}=17.3$ GeV) is presented. The data were recorded by the NA61/SHINE hadron spectrometer at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron. The $\textit{template}$ method was used to extract the $K^{*}(892)^0$ signal and double differential transverse momentum and rapidity spectra were obtained. The full phase-space mean multiplicity of $K^{*}(892)^0$ mesons was found to be $(78.44 \pm 0.38 \mathrm{(stat)} \pm 6.0 \mathrm{(sys)) \cdot 10^{-3}}$. The NA61/SHINE results are compared with the E$_{POS}$1.99 and Hadron Resonance Gas models as well as with world data from p+p and nucleus-nucleus collisions.

We report on the measurement of $\rm{J}/\psi$ production in the dielectron channel at mid-rapidity (|y|<1) in p+p and d+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$ = 200 GeV from the STAR experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. The transverse momentum $p_{T}$ spectra in p+p for $p_{T}$ < 4 GeV/c and d+Au collisions for $p_{T}$ < 3 GeV/c are presented. These measurements extend the STAR coverage for $\rm{J}/\psi$ production in p+p collisions to low $p_{T}$. The $<p_{T}^{2}>$ from the measured $\rm{J}/\psi$ invariant cross section in p+p and d+Au collisions are evaluated and compared to similar measurements at other collision energies. The nuclear modification factor for $\rm{J}/\psi$ is extracted as a function of $p_{T}$ and collision centrality in d+Au and compared to model calculations using the modified nuclear Parton Distribution Function and a final-state $\rm{J}/\psi$ nuclear absorption cross section.

A study of the fragmentation properties of charm and bottom quarks intoD mesons is presented. In an experiment with the 1.5 m bubble chamber at the Rutherford Laboratory, the reaction K + d→K 0 pp has been studied at beam momenta of 2.2, 2.45 and 2.7 GeV/ c . The cross section for the reaction K + n→K 0 p has been estimated and found to be approximately twice that of the line-reversed reaction K − p → K 0 n at comparable energies. An SU(3) sum rule, due to Barger and Cline, has been tested and found not to be valid in this momentum range. The differential cross section for K + n→K 0 p has also been measured and a determination made of the imaginary to real ratio of the forward amplitude, using the optical theorem. Implications of these, and other results, for various Regge models are briefly discussed.

The invariantx-spectra of resonant particle pairs decrease less rapidly withx then the corresponding non-resonant pairs. The reaction pp -> pf (pi+pi-pi0) ps has been studied at 450 GeV/c in an experiment designed to search for gluonic states. A spin analysis has been performed and the dPT filter applied. Measurements of the cross section and forward-backward asymmetry for the reaction e + e − → μ + μ − using the DELPHI detector at LEP are presented. The data come from a scan around the Z 0 peak at seven centre of mass energies, giving a sample of 3858 events in the polar angle region 22° < θ < 158°. From a fit to the cross section for 43° < θ < 137°, a polar angle region for which the absolute efficiency has been determined, the square root of the product of the Z 0 → e + e − and Z 0 → μ + μ − partial widths is determined to be (Γ e Γ μ ) 1 2 = 85.0 ± 0.9( stat. ) ± 0.8( syst. ) MeV . From this measurement of the partial width, the value of the effective weak mixing angle is determined to be sin 2 ( θ w ) = 0.2267 ± 0.0037 . The ratio of the hadronic to muon pair partial widths is found to be Γ h / Γ μ = 19.89 ± 0.40(stat.) ± 0.19(syst.). The forward-backward asymmetry at the resonance peak energy E CMS = 91.22 GeV is found to be A FB = 0.028 ± 0.020(stat.) ± 0.005(syst.). From a combined fit to the cross section and forward-backward asymmetry data, the products of the electron and muon vector and axial-vector coupling constants are determined to be V e V μ = 0.0024 ± 0.0015(stat.) ± 0.0004(syst.) and A e A μ = 0.253 ± 0.003(stat.) ± 0.003 (syst.). The ratio of the number of W+1 jet to W+0 jet events is measured with the D0 detector using data from the 1992–93 Tevatron Collider run. For the W→eν channel with a minimum jet ET cutoff of 25 GeV, the experimental ratio is 0.065±0.003stat±0.007syst. Next-to-leading order QCD predictions for various parton distributions agree well with each other and are all over 1 standard deviation below the measurement. Varying the strong coupling constant αs in both the parton distributions and the partonic cross sections simultaneously does not remove this discrepancy.

The hadronic fragmentation functions of the various quark flavours and of gluons are measured in a study of the inclusive hadron production from Z 0 decays with the DELPHI detector and are compared with the fragmentation functions measured elsewhere at energies between 14 GeV and 91 GeV. A large scaling violation is observed, which is used to extract the strong coupling constant from a fit using a numerical integration of the second order DGLAP evolution equations. The result is α s ( M Z ) = 0.124 −0.007 +0.006 (exp) ± 0.009(theory) where the first error represents the experimental uncertainty and the second error is due to the factorization and renormalization scale dependence.

New high precision measurements of the Collins and Sivers asymmetries of charged hadrons produced in deep-inelastic scattering of muons on a transversely polarised 6LiD target are presented. The data were taken in 2003 and 2004 with the COMPASS spectrometer using the muon beam of the CERN SPS at 160 GeV/c. Both the Collins and Sivers asymmetries turn out to be compatible with zero, within the present statistical errors, which are more than a factor of 2 smaller than those of the published COMPASS results from the 2002 data. The final results from the 2002, 2003 and 2004 runs are compared with naive expectations and with existing model calculations.

This paper presents for the first time a precise measurement of the production properties of the Z boson in the full phase space of the decay leptons. The measurement is obtained from proton-proton collision data collected by the ATLAS experiment in 2012 at $\sqrt s$ = 8 TeV at the LHC and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.2 fb$^{-1}$. The results, based on a total of 15.3 million Z-boson decays to electron and muon pairs, extend and improve a previous measurement of the full set of angular coefficients describing Z-boson decay. The double-differential cross-section distributions in Z-boson transverse momentum p$_T$ and rapidity y are measured in the pole region, defined as 80 $<$ m $<$ 100 GeV, over the range $|y| <$ 3.6. The total uncertainty of the normalised cross-section measurements in the peak region of the p$_T$ distribution is dominated by statistical uncertainties over the full range and increases as a function of rapidity from 0.5-1.0% for $|y| <$ 2.0 to 2-7% at higher rapidities. The results for the rapidity-dependent transverse momentum distributions are compared to state-of-the-art QCD predictions, which combine in the best cases approximate N$^4$LL resummation with N$^3$LO fixed-order perturbative calculations. The differential rapidity distributions integrated over p$_T$ are even more precise, with accuracies from 0.2-0.3% for $|y| <$ 2.0 to 0.4-0.9% at higher rapidities, and are compared to fixed-order QCD predictions using the most recent parton distribution functions. The agreement between data and predictions is quite good in most cases.

A search for heavy Higgs bosons produced in association with a vector boson and decaying into a pair of vector bosons is performed in final states with two leptons (electrons or muons) of the same electric charge, missing transverse momentum and jets. A data sample of proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider between 2015 and 2018 is used. The data correspond to a total integrated luminosity of 139 fb$^{-1}$. The observed data are in agreement with Standard Model background expectations. The results are interpreted using higher-dimensional operators in an effective field theory. Upper limits on the production cross-section are calculated at 95% confidence level as a function of the heavy Higgs boson's mass and coupling strengths to vector bosons. Limits are set in the Higgs boson mass range from 300 to 1500 GeV, and depend on the assumed couplings. The highest excluded mass for a heavy Higgs boson with the coupling combinations explored is 900 GeV. Limits on coupling strengths are also provided.

A generic search for resonances is performed with events containing a $Z$ boson with transverse momentum greater than 100 GeV, decaying into $e^+e^-$ or $\mu^+\mu^-$. The analysed data collected with the ATLAS detector in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV at the Large Hadron Collider correspond to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb$^{-1}$. Two invariant mass distributions are examined for a localised excess relative to the expected Standard Model background in six independent event categories (and their inclusive sum) to increase the sensitivity. No significant excess is observed. Exclusion limits at 95% confidence level are derived for two cases: a model-independent interpretation of Gaussian-shaped resonances with the mass width between 3% and 10% of the resonance mass, and a specific heavy vector triplet model with the decay mode $W'\to ZW \to \ell\ell qq$.

A study has been made of pseudoscalar mesons produced centrally in pp interactions. The results show that the eta and etaprime appear to have a similar production mechanism which differs from that of the pi0. The production properties of the eta and etaprime are not consistent with what is expected from double Pomeron exchange. In addition the production mechanism for the eta and etaprime is such that the production cross section are greatest when the azimuthal angle between the pT vectors of the two protons is 90 degrees.

In addition to the well known f1(1285) there is evidence for two JPC=2-+ states called the eta2(1620) and eta2(1875) and a broad scalar called the f0(2000). The production of these states as a function of the dPT kinematical filter shows the behaviour expected for qqbar states. In contrast, there is evidence for two states at 1.45 GeV and at 1.9 GeV which do not show the behaviour observed for qqbar states.
SIG(C=TOT) denotes the total cross section for each resonance.
A study of the reactions pp -> pfps(K+K-pi+pi-) and pp -> pfps(K+K-pi+pi-pi0) shows evidence for the K*K* and phi omega channels respectively. The K*K* mass spectrum shows a broad distribution with a maximum near threshold and an angular analysis shows that it is compatible with having JP = 2+. The behaviour of the cross-section as a function of centre of mass energy, and the four momentum transfer dependence, are compatible with what would be expected if the K*K* system was produced via double Pomeron exchange. The dPT behaviour of the phi omega channel is similar to what has been observed for all the undisputed qqbar states. In contrast, the dPT behaviour of the K*K* final state is similar to what has been observed for the phi phi final state and for previously observed glueball candidates.
Corrections for geometrical acceptances, detector efficiencies, losses due to cuts, charged kaon decay and unseen decay modes were applied.
The variable ABS(PT(P=3)-PT(P=4)) is used as a glueball-QUARK QUARKBAR filter (see F.E.Close and A.Krik, PL 397B, 333 (1997)). SIG(C=TOT) stands for the cross section for the whole ABS(PT(P=3)-PT(P=4))interval.
TheA-dependence of the polarization ofΛ0,s produced inclusively in neutron-nucleus interactions at a mean neutron momentum of about 40 GeV/c has been measured in an experiment performed using the BIS-2 spectrometer at the Serpukhov accelerator. Carbon, Aluminium and Copper targets were used. TheΛ0,s were produced in the kinematical region of 0.6<pT<1.3 GeV/c and 0.2<xF<0.9. Describing the polarization of theΛ0,s by ℘=a·A a value of (−0.15+0.07/−0.60) was obtained by a fit to our data.
POLARIZATION IS DESCRIBED BY A POWER LOW: POL = C*A**B, WHERE C = -1.1, +0.4, -0.3 , A- ATOMIC NUMBER AND B = -0.15, +0.07, -0.6.
