Inclusive Λ production has been studied in K − p interactions at 8.25 GeV/ c using about 69 000 events; the total cross section is found to be 3.35 ± 0.20 mb. A comparison has been made with Σ 0 and Σ(1385) inclusive production. Their influence on the inclusive Λ production is discussed. The inclusive Λ cross section and polarization is interpreted in terms of the triple-Regge model. In the target fragmentation region an effective Regge trajectory is determined which lies closer to the K than to the K ∗ . In the beam fragmentation region the cross-section data indicate an effective Regge trajectory which corresponds to the nucleon, while the polarization data require additional Regge exchanges to be present.

Inclusive Ξ − production is studied in K − p interactions at 8.25 GeV/ c using about 8000 events. An analysis based on the triple-Regge model shows that the Λ α − Λ γ and Σ β − Σ δ exchanges explain the forward Ξ − production. Ξ(1530) properties are also studied and are found to be similar to those of Ξ − 's. Finally, a study of the production of Ω − based on 67 events shows that Ω's are also produced by hyperon exchange.

The exclusive production of proton-antiproton pairs in the collisions of two quasi-real photons had been studied using data taken at sqrt(s)_ee=183 GeV and 189 GeV with the OPAL detector at LEP. Results are presented for Ppbar invariant masses, W, in the range 2.15 W< <3.95 GeV. The cross-section measurements are compared with previous data and with recent analytic calculations based on the quark-diquark model.

The inclusive one- and two-jet production cross-sections are measured in collisions of quasi-real photons radiated from the LEP beams at e+e− centre-of-mass energies \(\sqrt{s}_{\rm ee}=130\) and 136 GeV using the OPAL detector at LEP. Hard jets are reconstructed using a cone jet finding algorithm. The differential jet cross-sections \({\rm d}\sigma /{\rm d}E_{T}^{\rm jet}\) are compared to next-to-leading order perturbative QCD calculations. Transverse energy flows in jets are studied separately for direct and resolved two-photon events.

A measurement of the cross section for γγ→pp¯ is performed at two-photon center-of-mass energies between 2.00 and 3.25 GeV. These results are obtained using e+e−→e+e−pp¯ events selected from 1.31 fb−1 of data taken with the CLEO II detector. The measured cross section is in reasonable agreement with previous measurements and is in excellent agreement with recent calculations based on a diquark model. However, leading order QCD calculations performed using the Brodsky-Lepage formalism are well below the measured cross section.

The production ofK* resonances has been studied in the reaction\(K^ -p \to \bar K^0 \pi ^ -p\) at 8.25 GeV/c. The data comes from a high statistics bubble chamber experiment (180 events/μb). Masses, widths and production cross-sections have been determined for the first threeK*'s. The contributions from natural and unnatural parity exchange have been obtained for theK*(890) and theK*(1420). A partial wave analysis of theK π system from threshold to 1.9 GeV provides evidence for a 0+ enhancement near 1.4 GeV which could be interpreted as the κ(1350).

The reactionsK−p→π∓Σ(1385)± are studied at an incident laboratory momentum of 8.25 GeV/c using data from a high statistics (≃180 events/μb) bubble chamber experiment. In the case of the reactionK−p→π−Σ(1385)+ an amplitude analysis is performed and the complete Σ(1385)+ spin density matrix is extracted as a function oft′. The results are compared with the predictions of the additive quark model. In the case of the reactionK−p→π+Σ(1385)− the cross-sections for forward and backward production are determined.

We present results for the hypercharge exchange reaction K − p→f' λ from a high statistics experiment at 8.25 GeV/ c using the CERN 2m HBC. The total and differential cross sections have been measured; the polarisation of the Λ hyperon and the f' density matrix elements have been calculated as functions of momentum transfer. We also present detailed information on the relative strength of the natural and unnatural parity exchange contributions to the production mechanism.
