We present the charged-particle multiplicity distributions for e+e− annihilation at center-of-mass energies from 50 to 61.4 GeV. The results are based on a data sample corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 30 pb−1 obtained with the AMY detector at the KEK storage ring TRISTAN. The charged-particle multiplicity distributions deviate significantly from the modified Poisson and pair Poisson distributions, but follow Koba-Nielsen-Olesen scaling and are well reproduced by the LUND parton-shower model.

The charged multiplicity distribution is presented for K − p interactions produced in the hydrogen bubble chamber, BEBC, using an r.f. separated, tagged K − beam of 110 GeV/ c momentum. A comparison with K + p, πp and pp data at lower energies shows that the main features of the multiplicity distributions depend on energy and charge of the incident particles, but not on their strangeness. At high energies, only the energy is important.

Multiplicity distributions and correlations between charged particles in the forward and back-ward c.m. hemispheres are studied inK−p interactions at 110 GeV/c and compared with other data on mesonnucleon scattering. The interpretation in terms of a simple quark-parton picture assuming that the forward multiplicity is dominated by quark fragmentation and the backward multiplicity by diquark fragmentation is supported by the experimental fact that the forward and the backward mean multiplicities are approximately equal to half of thee+e− andpp multiplicities, respectively. The 110 GeV/cK−p data show significant correlations between the numbers of slow forward and slow backward particles, whereas the multiplicities of fast forward and fast backward particles are independent.

Charged multiplicity and π 0 cross sections for π − p inelastic interactions at 70 GeV/ c are presented. The data were obtained from an exposure of the BEBC bubble chamber equipped with a track sensitive target (TST) to an unseparated negative beam at the CERN SPS. About 10 000 events were used for the charged multiplicity study, and about 2000 Dalitz pairs for the π 0 production analysis. A total of 12 e + e − pairs with a mass higher than the π 0 mass were found and analysed in terms of η or ω Dalitz pairs or decay pairs of vector mesons. Comparisons with data at other energies are made in terms of charged prong, π 0 cross sections, and of multiplicity parameters. The moments of longitudinal and transverse momentum distributions of the π 0 are determined and compared to the predictions of quark counting rule models.

Inclusive and semi-inclusive distributions of γ's and π 0 's in the reactions K + p → γ + X and K + p → π 0 + X at 32 GeV/ c are presented and discussed. When compared to the inclusive π − production, the π 0 cross section is found to be significantly higher in low | x | and p T regions. The data are compared with other experiments and quark fusion model predictions.

ESTIMATED FROM GAMMA AND 2GAMMA SPECTRA.
The charged multiplicity has been measured at the ϒ(4S) and a value of 5.75±0.1±0.2 has been obtained for the mean charged multiplicity in B-meson decay. Combining this result with the measurement of prompt leptons from B decay, the values 4.1±0.35±0.2 and 6.3±0.2±0.2 are found for the semileptonic and nonleptonic charged multiplicities, respectively. If b→c dominance is assumed for the weak decay of the B meson, then the semileptonic multiplicity is consistent with the recoil mass determined from the lepton momentum spectrum.

Using data obtained with EHS equipped with the Rapid Cycling Bubble Chamber (RCBC) exposed to a proton beam of 360 GeV/c, we calculate topological cross sections. We present in great detail the procedure and the techniques used to correct raw data. Finally, we give multiplicity moments and multiplicity correlations and we compare the values obtained in our experiment, together with data at other energies, with different models.

Results on the multiplicity structure of diffractively excited meson and proton systems in À+/K+p interactions at 250 GeV/c are presented for diffractive masses up to about 9 GeV. The energy dependence of the average charge multiplicity and the shape of the multiplicity distribution in terms of KNO-scaling and negative binomial distribution are investigated. The diffractive systems are compared toe+e−,lh and non-diffractivehh final states as suggested by modern approaches of the Pomeron-hadron collision. Systematic differences are found between diffractive meson and proton systems but also between diffraction and the reactions compared to.
