Results on photoproduction of π + π − π 0 in the photon energy range 20–70 GeV are presented. For the ω meson, the production cross-section is found to be 1010±15 (statistical)±290 (systematic) nb and is constant over the incident photon energy range. Spin-density matrix elements are evaluated for ω meson production. The φ meson is observed with a total photoproduction cross section (corrected for branching ratio to π + π − π 0 ) of 610±35±170 nb. A third resonance, at 1.67 GeV, is seen in the mass spectrum and its interpretation is discussed. The production of a broad π + π − π 0 continuum, mainly via ϱπ, and peaking at 1.2 GeV, contributes with a cross section of about 2.5 ωb. The spin-parity content is analysed by the moments of the π + π − π 0 decay angular distribution in the helicity frame and by maximum likelihood fits to the π + π − π 0 Dalitz plot. It is found that production of J P = 1 − states accounts for less than half of the total mass spectrum above 900 MeV. There is a broad enhancement in the 1 + wave around 1.15 GeV indicating photoproduction of the H(1190) meson.

Study of the reactions pi+ p ---> k+ sigma+ and pi+ p ---> k+ y*+(1385) between 3.5 and 14 gev/c

Phys.Rev.D 4 (1971) 2667-2679, 1971.
Inspire Record 74763 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.23097

Measurements of the differential cross section for the reactions π+p→K+Σ+ and π+p→K+Y*+(1385) are reported at 3.5, 3.75, 4.0, 4.25, 4.5, 4.75, 5.0, 6.0, 10.0, and 14.0 GeV/c. Polarization in π+p→K+Σ+ is also reported at 6.0, 10.0, and 14.0 GeV/c. At small |t|, the cross section for π+p→K+Σ+ is well described by an exponential Aebt with slopes in the range b≈8−10 (GeV/c)−2; for |t|>0.5 (GeV/c)2 this slope decreases considerably. The cross section for π+p→K+Y*+(1385) is well described for |t|>0.2 (GeV/c)2 by a single exponential of slope about half that for π+p→K+Σ+; there is no break near |t|>0.5 (GeV/c)2. We observe a dip in this cross section near t=0. The polarization in π+p→K+Σ+ is consistent with zero for |t|<0.4 (GeV/c)2 and becomes large and positive for larger |t|.

A Study of Charged Pseudoscalar Meson Photoproduction From Hydrogen and Deuterium With 16-{GeV} Linearly Polarized Photons

Phys.Rev.D 20 (1979) 1553, 1979.
Inspire Record 140543 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.24208

The asymmetries in forward π−N, π−Δ, and K+−(Λ+Σ) photoproduction have been measured with a 16-GeV linearly polarized beam. The experimental method and the procedures for extracting cross sections and asymmetries from the data are discussed in detail. Information on the energy and momentum-transfer dependence of cross sections for natural- and unnatural-parity exchange, interference between exchanges of opposite G parity, and vector-meson dominance is obtained and discussed.

ASYMMETRIES IN CHARGED PION PHOTOPRODUCTION ON NUCLEONS BY 16-GeV POLARIZED PHOTONS

Asymmetries in charged-pion photoproduction from hydrogen and deuterium have been measured with 16-GeV linearly polarized photons. Considerable energy dependence is seen in the natural-parity contribution to the π−π+ ratio from deuterium, and in the unnatural-parity part of the cross section for γn→π−p. The energy dependence of this latter cross section is consistent with the expected from a conventional pion Regge trajectory.

HIGH-ENERGY pi0 PHOTOPRODUCTION FROM HYDROGEN WITH UNPOLARIZED AND LINEARLY POLARIZED PHOTONS

We have completed measurements of the differential cross section for γ+p→π0+p, and the asymmetry with polarized photons, for incident photon energies from 4 to 18 GeV and momentum transfers between t=−0.1 and −1.4 (GeV/c)2. The experiment was performed at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, using the SLAC 1.6-GeV/c spectrometer to analyze protons recoiling from a hydrogen target. For the cross-section measurements a normal collimated bremsstrahlung beam was used. For the asymmetry measurements the polarized photons were produced by coherent bremsstrahlung from a diamond crystal, and a coincidence was required between the recoil proton and one of the π0 decay photons in a shower counter.
