Results are presented for the quasi two-body hypercharge exchange reactions of the type using data from a high statistics bubble chamber experiment. Total and differential cross sections and the momentum transfer dependence of the meson and hyperon resonance single density matrix elements are discussed. Amplitude analyses are performed for the first two reactions. The results are compared with quark model and duality predictions and with those from other related reactions.

Electroproduction of exclusive $\phi$ vector mesons has been studied with the CLAS detector in the kinematical range $1.6\leq Q^2\leq 3.8$ GeV$^{2}$, $0.0\leq t^{\prime}\leq 3.6$ GeV$^{2}$, and $2.0\leq W\leq 3.0$ GeV. The scaling exponent for the total cross section as $1/(Q^2+M_{\phi}^2)^n$ was determined to be $n=2.49\pm 0.33$. The slope of the four-momentum transfer $t'$ distribution is $b_{\phi}=0.98 \pm 0.17$ GeV$^{-2}$. The data are consistent with the assumption of s-channel helicity conservation (SCHC). Under this assumption, we determine the ratio of longitudinal to transverse cross sections to be $R=0.86 \pm 0.24$. A 2-gluon exchange model is able to reproduce the main features of the data.

We have measured the reactions π±p→π±p and π+p→K+Σ+ at 5.0 GeV/c in the region 2.2<−t<3.5 (GeV/c)2. We find the minimum cross section of the dip at −t=2.8 (GeV/c)2 in π+p elastic scattering to be 0.16 ± 0.05 μb/GeV2. The π−p differential cross section exhibits similar structure, while the π+p→K+Σ+ channel shows a steady decline in cross section as |t| increases. The polarization of the Σ+ remains large and positive to at least −t=2.8 (GeV/c)2.

We have measured the differential cross-section and the analyzing power (polarization) for p-He4 elastic scattering at incident kinetic energies of 0.56, 0.80, 1.03, 1.24, and 1.73 GeV. The experiment used a polarized proton beam incident on a liquid helium target and a single arm magnetic spectrometer to detect elastic scattering. Both the differential cross sections and the analyzing power show structure near −t=0.25 (GeV/c)2 which decreases in magnitude with increasing energy. Both multiple scattering and optical model interpretations of the data are discussed. Results are reported of a study of the hypercharge reactions K − p → ωΛ (la), K − p → φΛ (lb), K − p → φ ∑ o (lc), K − p → ϱ o Λ (ld), K − p → ϱ o ∑ o (le), K − p → ϱ − ∑ + (lf) in a 12 events/ub bubble chamber experiment using K − mesons of 4.25 GeV/ c momentum. Total and differential cross sections are presented as well as the density matrix elements of the peripherally produced vector meson and (except for reaction (1f)) the hyperon polarization. For reactions (1a) and (1b) an amplitude analysis is performed. The mass and the width of the ϱ−, φ− and f-meson have been determined.
FURTHER DATA FROM THIS COLLABORATION ON THESE REACTIONS WITH TEN TIMES BETTER STATISTICS ARE PRESENTED IN M. J. LOSTY ET AL., NP B133, 38 (1978).

We have investigated the final states K ∗0 (890)Σ, K ∗0 (890)Σ 0 and K ∗0 (890) Y 1 ∗0 (1385) produced in π − p interactions at 3.93 GeV/ c . We present the differential cross sections and spin density matrix elements for the resonances as functions of momentum transfer, as well as the gL and Σ 0 polarizations. The Σ 0 polarization is found to be positive and maximal. An amplitude analysis is performed for the K ∗ Λ and K ∗ Σ 0 reactions, and it is found that one natural parity transversity amplitude is dominant for the latter.

The reaction γ d→d ππ , γ p→p ππ and γ n→n ππ were studied in the SLAC 82″ deuterium filled bubble chamber, exposed to a linearly polarized photon beam of 7.5 GeV. All three reactions are dominated by ϱ 0 production. The differential cross section has a slope of ∼6.5 GeV −2 for nucleon reactions and a slope of ∼27 GeV −2 for coherent deuteron reactions. The behaviour of the density matrix elements shows that ϱ production conserves s -channel c.m.s. helicity and is dominated by natural parity exchange.

The reactions Λ p → Λ p, → Σ ± p π ∓ , → Λ p π + π − and → Σ 0 p have been studied in the SLAC 82 inch bubble chamber for incident Λ particles in the momentum range 1–10 GeV/ c . The incident Λ flux was produced by the exposure of a platinum target mounted inside the chamber to a 12 GeV K − beam. A total of 992 events have been analyzed. The reactions are found to be qualitatively similar to corresponding nucleon-nucleon reactions. In particular, the slope parameter B in the elastic cross section d σ /d t = A e Bt has been determined as a function of incident momentum and found to be consistent with that for proton-proton elastic scattering. Angular distributions for the inelastic channels are compared with those of similar nucleon-nucleon reactions, and predictions of relevant exchange models.
