Inspire Record 101037 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.13243

The differential cross sections for π + p elastic scattering at0.6, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, GeV/ c for π - p at 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 GeV/ c , for K - p at 1.2, 1.8, 2.6 GeV/ c and for K - p at 0.9, 1.2, 1.4, 1.6, 1.8, 2.6 GeV/ c have been measured with an overall accuracy ofthe order of 1 to 2% in an electronics experiment over the angular region corresponding to momentum transfer t between 0.0005 and 0.10 GeV 2 . Making use of the interference effects between the Coulomb and the nuclear interaction, we have determined the magnitude and sign of the real part of the scattering amplitude near t = 0. The K ± p real parts have been used in a dispersion relation to derive the value of the KNΛ coupling constant.

Large-Angle Elastic Scattering of Negative Pions by Protons at 1.51, 2.01, and 2.53 Bev/c

Lai, Kwan Wu ;
PhD Thesis, Michigan U., 1963.
Inspire Record 1408825 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.70519

The differential elastic scattering cross sections for negative pions on ; protons were measured at incident momenta of 1.51, 2.01, and 2.53 Bev/c with ; emphasis on the angular region outside the diffraction peak. The purpose of the ; experiment was to examine the behavior of the largeangle differential elastic ; cross section as a function of energy from the energy of the highest known ; resonance in the pion-nucleon system into the region where the total. cross ; sections appear to be approaching an asymptotic value. The experiment was ; performed at the Bevatron, using a luminescent chamber system to photograph the ; tracks of the scattered pion and the recoil proton from a liquid hydrogen target. ; A total of 2412 elastic scatterings were analyzed at 1.51 Bev/c, 1300 events at ; 2.01 Bev/c, and 1080 events at 2.53 Bev/c. From the existing data it may be ; noted that the backward bump, which has a maximum height of 2.1 mb/sr at 900 Mev ; and 1.1 mb/sr at 1020 Mev, is down to 0.4 mb/sr at 1.51 Bev/c (1.37 Bev), and is ; not present at 2.01 or 2.53 Bev/c. The angular distributions behind the ; diffraction peak at 2.01 and 2.53 Bev/c are rougly constant, decreasing from 0.18 ; mb/sr at 2.01 Bev/c to 0.125 mb/sr at 2.53 Bev/c. Although the data can be taken ; to suggest some oscillatory structure in this region, they are not inconsistent ; with an isotropic distribution that might be interpreted as evidence for an S-; wave scattering behind the diffraction peak. PI- P ELASTIC SCATTERING IN THE REGION OF THE X0 (957.6) THRESHOLD

Nuovo Cim.A 75 (1983) 123-162, 1983.
Inspire Record 196214 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.8694

We present results from a high-momentum-resolution measurement of the π-p elastic differential and total cross-sections-at values of cos θ* between — 0.60 and 0.85 in the centre-of-mass system and at incident-beam momenta between 1.34GeV/c and 1.49 GeV/c—close to the X0 production threshold. There is no significant enhancement near the X0 production threshold. However, a small effect of ~ 3 standard deviations is present, having mass 1898.8 MeV and width ~5MeV, and appearing at an incident-pion momentum of 1435 MeV/c. In addition, a narrow ~ 5-standard-deviation effect atEc.m.= 1876 MeV appeared at an incident-pion momentum of 1389 MeV/c.

Phys.Rev.D 5 (1972) 499-505, 1972.
Inspire Record 74554 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.3523

The differential cross section for π±−p elastic scattering at 180° was measured from 0.572 to 1.628 GeVc using a double-arm scintillation-counter spectrometer with an angular acceptance θ* in the center-of-mass system defined by −1.00≤cosθ*≤−0.9992. The π+−p cross section exhibits a large dip at 0.737 GeVc and a broad peak centered near 1.31 GeVc. The π−−p cross section exhibits peaks at 0.69, 0.97, and 1.43 GeVc.

The differential cross sections for π−p elastic scattering over the angular range 155° to 177° in the center of mass have been measured at 33 incident-pion momenta in the range 600 to 1280 MeV/c. Angular distributions are presented. The extrapolated differential cross sections at 180° show considerable structure, in particular a dip near 1150 MeV/c. In general the near-180° cross sections do not agree with existing phase shift solutions above 1000 MeV/c

Pi- p forward elastic scattering near 1 gev/c

We have measured the differential cross section of the reaction π − p→ π − p in the range 0.92 ⩽ cos θ c.m. ⩽ 0.99 at 15 momenta between 0.875 and 1.580 GeV/ c . The results we report complete the available data; previous measurements of this reaction do not extend beyond cos θ c.m. =0.90. We compare our experimental results with dispersion relation predictions. A comparison of our results for B , the slope of the differential cross section, with earlier results shows many discrepancies.

Polarization of Recoil Protons in pi + /- p Elastic Scattering at 864, 981, and 1301 MeV

Eandi, Richard D. ; Devlin, Thomas J. ; Kenney, Robert W. ; et al.
Phys.Rev. 136 (1964) B1187-B1189, 1964.
Inspire Record 944970 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.535

Angular distributions of recoil-proton polarization in elastic π±p scattering were measured at 864-, 981-, and 1301-MeV incident pion kinetic energy. Polarization measurements were made by observing the azimuthal asymmetry in the subsequent scattering of recoil protons in large carbon-plate spark chambers. The spark chambers proved to be very suitable polarization analyzer detectors. Strong variation of the polarization with backward pion scattering angle was observed.
