We have measured differential cross sections for pion elastic scattering from H3 and He3 in the angular region near the minimum in the non-spin-flip amplitude. Data were acquired for incident pion energies of 180, 220, 256, and 295 MeV. Nuclear charge symmetry is investigated with the aid of several charge-symmetric ratios formed from combinations of measured cross sections. A particularly intriguing result is obtained from the superratio R, which is defined as R=dσ(π+3H)dσ(π−3H)/dσ(π+3He)dσ(π−3He). R is found to be greater than unity at 180 MeV and significantly smaller than unity at 256 MeV, with the transition occurring at around 210 MeV. The charge-symmetry prediction for this ratio (after allowance for the Coulomb force) is one, and is independent of energy and angle. © 1996 The American Physical Society.

Investigation of pi- p --> pi0 n Reaction at Large Momentum Transfer

Phys.Lett.B 72 (1977) 132, 1977.
Inspire Record 121448 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.39780

New results on a high statistics measurement of pion-nucleon charge exchange scattering at 40 GeV/ c , extending in momentum transfer up to − t = 1.8 (GeV/ c ) 2 , are reported and compared with an optical impact parameter model, together with previous data for the reaction π − p → ηn at the same energy. The imaginary part of the pole trajectory b 0 ( s ) is determined from the slope of the tangent to the maxima of (−t) 1 2 d σ d t . The linear increase of Im b 0 ( s ) with log s , which has been observed at low energies, continues up to 40 GeV/ c .

We present results from an experimental study of reabsorption effects in subthreshold π0 production in the reaction Xe129+197Au at 44 MeV/nucleon. Within the picture of pion generation in nucleon-nucleon scattering we deduce, from our data and from a comparison with the systematics of production cross sections available for lighter reaction systems, information on the π0 absorption length in nuclear matter. For the π0 kinetic-energy range ≃5–100 MeV the energy-averaged λabs and its momentum dependence are obtained, and compared with optical-model calculations.

Deep-inelastic ep scattering data, taken with the H1 detector at HERA, are used to study the event shape variables thrust, jet broadening, jet mass, C parameter and two kinds of differential two-jet rate. The data cover a large range of the four-momentum transfer Q, which is considered to be the relevant energy scale, between 7 GeV and 100 GeV. The Q dependences of the mean values are compared with second order calculations of perturbative QCD applying power law corrections proportional to 1/Q^p to account for hadronization effects. The concept of power corrections is investigated by fitting simultaneously a non-perturbative parameter alpha_p and the strong coupling constant alpha_s.

Investigation of rho+, rho- and rho0 Production in pi+ p Interactions at 16-GeV/c and p p Interactions at 24-GeV/c and Quark Model Predictions

Quasi-inclusive and total inclusive ϱ + , ϱ − and ϱ 0 cross sections have been studied, using data of a π + p and a pp bubble chamber experiment at 16 and 24 GeV/ c , respectively. In pp collisions it is found that the total inclusive cross sections for ϱ 0 , ϱ + and ϱ − production are about equal. This equality also holds for the differential cross sections d σ/ d y ∗ , all showing the characteristics of dominantly central production. In the π + p reactions the ϱ − are mainly produced centrally, whereas there are strong additional contributions in the beam fragmentation region for ϱ + and ϱ 0 mesons. In the central region, however, the cross sections for ϱ + , ϱ − and ϱ 0 production are almost equal within errors. All our findings agree with what is expected from quark model predictions.

Investigation of the $e^+e^- \to \omega \pi^0 \to \pi^0 \pi^0 \gamma$ reaction in the energy domain near the $\phi$-meson

The $e^+e^- \to \omega \pi^0 \to \pi^0 \pi^0 \gamma$ process was investigated in the SND experiment at the VEPP-2M collider. A narrow energy interval near the $\phi$-meson was scanned. The observed cross-section reveals, at the level of three standard deviation, the interference effect caused by $\phi \to \pi^0\pi^0\gamma$ decay. The cross-section parameters, as well as the real and imaginary parts of the $\phi$-meson related amplitude, were measured.

The differential cross sections for they+ p-- n + 7T+ process were measured for y-quantum energies 200, 205 and 210 MeV and meson emission angles 16, 24, 36, 44, 56, 64, 76, 84, 96, 104, 116, 124, 136, 144 and 156° relative to the photon beam in the laboratory system. A phenomenological analysis of the results is carried out and some multipole charged-meson photoproduction amplitudes are determined. The results are compared with the predictions of the dispersion-relation theory.
