We report a search for the production of light quark vector bosons in hadron-nucleus collisions at 100 GeV bombarding energy. We find surprisingly few of these resonances produced. The lack of these particles is though to be due to the absorption by the many modestly energetic nucleons and the few anti-nucleons in the final state.

$A_y$ in n-d elastic scattering: a test for three-nucleon calculations

Brogli-Gysin, C. ; Campbell, J. ; Haffter, P. ; et al.
Phys.Lett.B 250 (1990) 11-14, 1990.
Inspire Record 1389638 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.29548

We have measured the analyzing power A y in n-d elastic scattering at 67.0 MeV. The experiment was based on the detection of recoil deuterons, allowing for a precise measurement of the backward angular range. The results are in good agreement with recent three-nucleon calculations which are based on the Paris and Bonn NN potentials.

The incident p momentum was 1.695 GeV/ c , corresponding to an excess energy above threshold of 14.8 MeV. Results are given for the production cross section and the differential cross section as well as for the polarization. Parity nonconservation in proton-proton scattering has been studied by measuring the angle-integrated longitudinal analyzing power A z . We found A z (13.6 MeV)=(−1.5±0.5)×10 −7 . The error includes uncertainties due to statistics and corrections, as well as upper limits on systematic effects. The experimental result is discussed with respect to recent theoretical calculations.

Integral cross sections for π + p interaction have been measured between 125.9 and 201.7 MeV using the transmission method. Over this energy range the results are in very good agreement with predictions made with currently accepted phase shifts. These results are also consistent with similar measurements at lower energies when the dispersion relation constrained Karlsruhe phase shifts are used.

The structure is used for determination of the parities of these resonances.

A Precise extraction of R = sigma-L / sigma-T from a global analysis of the SLAC deep inelastic e p and e d scattering cross-sections

We report the extraction of R = σ L / σ T from a global analysis of eight SLAC deep inelastic experiments on e-p and e-d scattering performed between 1970 and 1985. Values of R p , R d , and R d − R p are determined over the entire SLAC kinematic range: 0.1⩽ x ⩽0.9 and 0.6⩽ Q 2 ⩽20.0 (GeV/ c ) 2 . We find that R p = R d . Measured values of R ( x , Q 2 ) are larger than predictions based on perturbative QCD and on QCD with the inclusion of kinematic target mass terms, indicating that dynamical higher twist effects may be important in the SLAC kinematic range.

Reaction K- p --> K- p pi+ pi- at 2.0 GeV/c

Phys.Rev. 153 (1967) 1403-1415, 1967.
Inspire Record 52549 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.29565

An analysis of the reaction K−p→K−pπ+π− at 2.0-GeVc incident momentum is presented. The total cross section for the reaction is 627±20 μb, based on 4519 events. The reaction is dominated by resonance production through several channels which overlap kinematically but do not appear to interferesubstantially. A maximum-likelihood procedure was used to determine the production fractions, which for the major channels are 0.44±0.02 for N*++(1236), 0.145±0.02 for Y*0(1520), 0.10±0.03 for N*+(1688), and 0.20±0.02 for simultaneous K¯*0N*0. Evidence is presented for the production of Y*+(1765) and its decay into Y*0(1520) as well as for production of Y*+(1660) with decay into K−pπ+. A four-standard-deviation enhancement is present at a K−π+ invariant mass of 690 MeV. Angular correlation data are presented for the N*++K−π−, Y*0π+π−, and K¯*0N*0 reaction channels. However, the difficulty of separating the various channels prevents a detailed study of the reaction dynamics.

POSITIVE PION PHOTOPRODUCTION FROM HYDROGEN FOR INCIDENT PHOTON ENERGIES 300-MEV - 750-MeV

Phys.Rev. 172 (1968) 1343-1353, 1968.
Inspire Record 52601 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.29563

The differential cross section for the reaction γ+p→π+n was measured at 19 photon energies between 300 and 750 MeV in the laboratory frame, for pion angles between 0° and 130° in the c.m. system. The pions were analyzed in angle and momentum with a magnetic spectrometer and detected by a counter telescope. The 0° measurements could be achieved, in spite of the excessive positron rate, owing to a mass-spectrometer arrangement. No direct indication for the electromagnetic excitation of the P11 resonance (1466 MeV) was found. Comparison is made with theoretical calculations of π+ photoproduction.

The n̄p total and annihilation cross section have been measured from near N̄N threshold (1880 MeV) to 1940 MeV with RMS resolution ranging from 0.08 MeV (1880 MeV) to 6.7 MeV (1940 MeV). No significant narrow meson structures were seen, with 90% CL upper limits of 40–180 mb-MeV on σΓ for states with width less than our resolution. Combined with increasing unitarity bounds on σ as one approaches threshold, these limits confine widths of possible predicted states below 1900 MeV to less than ∼ 1 MeV.
