The results presented in this paper were obtained from a 105 000 frame exposure of the FNAL Hybrid Proportional Wire Chamber-30 inch Bubble Chamber System, in a tagged beam of 147 GeV/ c negative particles. Elastic, total and topological cross sections were obtained for both π − p and K − p interactions. Comparisons with other data, taken with various beam particles over large momentum intervals, show good agreement with KNO scaling, and similarity in the scaling behavior of σ n for the different beam particles.

Peripheral Behavior of anti-p p --> K*+- K-+ Between 1-GeV/c and 2.5-GeV/c

The reaction p p → K ∗ K does not exhibit any s -channel resonance effect between 1 and 2.5 GeV/ c . On the contrary, the data on p p → K ∗∓ K ± are compatible with an exchange mechanism in the t - and u -channels above 1.5 GeV/ c . Strong similarities are found with p p → K − K + and K ∗− K ∗+ . The polarisation of K ∗± is given. The reaction p p → K ∗0 K 0 vanishes above 1.5 GeV/ c

Observation of the K* (1780) in the Reaction K+ p --> K0(s) pi+ p at 10-GeV/c

An analysis of the Kπ-system in the mass region of the K ∗ (1780), based on a sample of 46000 K s o π + final states, is presented. Evidence for a relatively narrow width, τ ≈ 100 MeV, and for the spin parity assignment J P = 3 − is found.

From 63 760 four pronged events we have selected 10 960 events of the p p π + π − final state. We have studied baryon resonances production and the associated production of Δ(1236) Δ (1236) isobars. We find (48.5 ± 2.6)% of Δ ++ Δ ++ and (4.5 ± 0.5)% of Δ 0 Δ 0 . Study of the various mass spectra shows that they are essentially described by the introduction of Δ ++ ( Δ ++ ) production. Introduction of the strong t dependence of the Δ ++ ( Δ ++ ) changes this description only slightly. A study of the interaction radius of the p π system reveals a best value of r = 1.6 ± 0.4 fm. Bumps observed in the p π + π − + c.c. system at 1450 and 1690 MeV when treated as resonances give rates of (4.0 ± 0.4)% and (4.5 ± 0.4)% respectively. We arrive at the conclusion that the reaction p p → p p π + π − at 5.7 GeV/ c proceeds almost entirely via the production of baryon resonances.

The final states\(\bar p\)pω and\(\Delta ^{ ++ } \bar \Delta ^{ -- } \pi ^0 \), produced in the reaction\(\bar p\)p →\(\bar p\)pπ+π−π0 (6435 events) at 5.7 GeV/c, are studied. Cross-sections are presented, and general features of the resonances produced are investigated. Spin alignment of the ω’s, reported earlier, is studied. An enhancement is observed in the ωp (ω\(\bar p\)) mass plot of mass (1810±15) MeV and width (87 ± 20) MeV.

Measurement of the anti-Lambda-Proton Total Cross-Section in the Momentum Range from 4 to 14-GeV/

Phys.Lett.B 60 (1976) 297-301, 1976.
Inspire Record 112804 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.27729

The Λ p total cross section has been measured in the Λ momentum range 4–14 GeV/c. The weighted mean of the cross section over this momentum interval is σ( Λ p) = 49.3 ± 3.7 mb for an average Λ momentum of 8.3 ± 2.7 GeV/ c . This value differs from the corresponding value for σ(Λp) measured previously by 14.5 ± 3.8 mb. Assuming a variation with Λ momentum, pΛ , of the form σ( Λ p) − σ(Λp) = σ 1pΛ − 1 2 , a value of σ 1 = 47 ± 10 mb GeV − 1 2 is obtained.

In a study of photoproduction at photon energies up to 5.3 GeV in a deuterium bubble chamber the reactions γ n→p π + π − π − and γ n→p π + π − π − π 0 were analyzed. In these reactions production of the resonances Δ ++ , Δ 0 , ϱ 0 , ω and A 2 − was observed. Photoproduction of strange particles was investigated and cross sections for the reactions γ n→ Λ K + π − , Σ − K 0 π + , pK − K 0 , Λ K 0 π + π − and Λ K + π − π 0 are presented. Production of Σ − (1385) and K ∗0 (890) was observed.

We present results on three reactions involving neutral final states which were studied in a magnet spark chamber system. These results are: (a) differential cross section with high statistics for K − p → K 0 n at 5 GeV /c (24 000 events) and at 8 GeV/ c (11 000 events) for t′ <2.0 (GeV/ c ) 2 ; (b) differential cross section and polarization for K − p → Λπ 0 (backward peak) at 5 GeV/ c for u ′ < 1.4 GeV/ c ) 2 ; and (c) differential cross section for K − p → K 0 Δ 0 (1232) at 5 GeV /c for t′ < 1.2 ( GeV /c) 2 . We compare our results with existing data and draw some phenomenological conclusions.

New measurements of proton proton total cross-section at the CERN intersecting storage rings

Measurements of the proton-proton total cross section have been made with increased precision (±0.6%) over the ISR energy range s =23.5−62.7 GeV . Two different experimental methods gave consistent results, showing that the total cross section increases 10% over the ISR range and in addition that the absolute value of the ISR luminosity can be measured to ±0.9%.
