The ratios of K+, K−, p, and p¯ yields to pion yields at transverse momenta (p⊥) ranging from 0.77 to 6.91 GeV/c arepresented for 200-, 300-, and 400-GeV p−p and 400-GeV p−d collisions. The dependences of the particle ratios on p⊥ and the scaling variable x⊥=2p⊥s are discussed.

We have measured the production of π+ and π− in 200-, 300-, and 400-GeV p−p and 400-GeV p−d collisions for transverse momenta (p⊥) ranging from 0.77 to 7.67 GeV/c. At large values of x⊥=2p⊥s, where s is the c.m. energy, we have fitted the p−p data to the form A(1−x⊥)bp⊥−n; we obtain n=8.2±0.5 for π+ and 8.5±0.5 for π−. At x⊥>0.3 the π+π− ratio in p−p collisions rises appreciably with increasing x⊥ whereas the π+π− ratio obtained from the difference of p−d and p−p cross sections is ∼ 1.0 at all x⊥.

Measurements of the cross section for the reaction p+p→π0+anything have been completed. The data cover a range of incident proton energies 50-400 GeV, π0 transverse momenta 0.3-4 GeV/c, and laboratory angles 30-275 mrad. The experiment was performed using the internal proton beam at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. A lead-glass counter was used to detect photons from the decay of π0's produced by collisions in thin targets of hydrogen or carbon. Tables of the measured cross sections are presented.

Production of Vector and Tensor Mesons in Proton Proton Collisions at $\sqrt{s}=52$.5-{GeV}

Inclusive production of ϱ0,f, andg0 mesons and ofKs0,K*0 (892), ϕ andK*0(1430)mesons has been measured at <y>∼2.6 and <pT>∼1.1 GeV/c in proton-proton interactions at$\sqrt s= 52.5$ GeV. The negative particle from the two-body decays of these resonances were identified by a threshold Cerenkov counter and used for triggering. Starting from the measured differential cross section, total inclusive cross sections for the vector and tensor mesons were determined using various parametrizations for they andpT dependence of the differential cross section. The experimental results are discussed in the framework of production models based on the parton picture. The strangeness suppresion factor λ=(0.30±0.10) due toSU(3) symmetry breaking of the quark sea is derived.

We compare high-transverse-momentum (P⊥) inclusive π0 production from π−, K−, p, and p¯ beams, at 100 and 200 GeV/c, for center-of-mass (c.m.) angles ranging from 2° to 115° and P⊥<4.5 GeV/c. The ratio σ(pp→π0X)σ(πp→π0X) decreases with increasing P⊥, and changes dramatically with c.m. angle. Also, the ratios σ(K−p→π0X)σ(π−p→π0X) and σ(p¯p→π0X)σ(pp→π0X) are approximately constant. These measurements are consistent with a theoretical viewpoint in which constituents of the incident hadrons undergo a hard-scattering subprocess.

Production of $\pi^0$ and Eta0 at 11-degrees in $p p$ Collisions at $\sqrt{s}=63$-{GeV}

The inclusive π0 production cross-section and the η/π0 ratio have been measured inpp collisions at$\sqrt s= 63 GeV$ at the CERN Intersecting Storage Rings in the rapidity range 2.00<y<2.75. The π0 cross-section exhibits a strongy-dependence and falls more steeply as a function ofpT, compared with the cross-section measured aty∼0. We find a value of 0.46±0.07 for the η/π0 ratio with no significantpT dependence over the range 2.0<pT<4.0 GeV/c.

A Study of the Production of High $p$(t) $\pi^0$'s at the {CERN} Intersecting Storage Rings

The inclusive cross-section for π0 production near 90° inpp collisions at the CERN Intersecting Storage Rings has been studied for thepT range 3<pT<16GeV/c at four different centre-of-mass energies ($\sqrt s = 30.6$, 44.8, 52.7, and 62.8 GeV). In this experiment the two photons from the π0→yy decay were resolved and measured separately forpT values up to 10 GeV/c. Results indicate an agreement with thepT−8 behaviour for the lower values ofpT and a slower decrease of the cross-section for the higher values ofpT. The high-pT data deviate from the scaling expressionpT−nF(xT), which holds for the lowerpT values (pT<8GeV/c).
