A search for charm production in the coherent diffractive dissociation reaction pSi→XSi was carried out for the modes D 0 → K − π + , D 0 → K − π + π + π − , and D + → K − π + π + . No charm signals were observed, and the 90% confidence level upper limit for coherent charm pair production was determined to be 26 μ b per silicon nucleus. The results are interpreted as an upper limit of 0.2% on the amount of intrinsic charm in the proton.
90 pct CL upper limits.
The forward-backward asymmetries of$$e^ + e^ - \to Z^0 \to b\bar b and e^ + e^ - \to Z^0 \to c\bar c$$
Measurement of the asymmetry in b-quark production on the Z0 peak using a two parameter fit, neglecting the effects of B0-BBAR0 mixing.
Measurement of the asymmetry in b-quark production on the Z0 peak using a two parameter fit and correcting for B0-BBAR0 mixing. The second systematic error is due to the uncertainty of the mixing factor.
Measurement of the asymmetry in c-quark production on the Z0 peak using a two parameter fit.
The dijet invariant mass distribution has been measured in the region between 140 and 1000 GeV/c2, in 1.8 TeV p p¯ collisions. Data collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab show agreement with QCD calculations. A limit on quark compositeness of Λc>1.3 TeV is obtained. Axigluons with masses between 240 and 640 GeV/c2 are excluded at 95% C.L. if we assume ten open decay channels. Model-independent limits on the production of heavy particles decaying into two jets are also presented.

We report the full reconstruction of χc mesons through the decay chain χc→J/ψ γ, J/ψ→μ+μ−, using data obtained at the Collider Detector at Fermilab in 2.6±0.2 pb−1 of p¯p collisions at √s =1.8 TeV. This exclusive χc sample is used to measure the χc-meson production cross section times branching fractions. We obtain σ×B=3.2±0.4(stat)−1.1+1.2(syst) nb for χc mesons decaying to J/ψ with pT>6.0 GeV/c and pseudorapidity ‖η‖<0.5. From this and the inclusive J/ψ cross section we calculate the inclusive b-quark cross section to be 12.0±4.5 μb for pTb>8.5 GeV/c and ‖yb‖<1.

This determination of the b-quark cross section uses an earlier CDF measurement of the pbar p --> J/PSI X cross section of 6.88 +- 1.11 nb. See Abe et al. PRL 69, 3704.
We present a measurement of the b-quark cross section in 1.8 TeV p-p¯ collisions recorded with the Collider Detector at Fermilab using muonic b-quark decays. In the central rapidity region (‖yb‖<1.0), the cross section is 295±21±75 nb (59±14±15 nb) for pTb>21 GeV/c (29 GeV/c). Comparisons are made to previous measurements and next-to-leading order QCD calculations.

Multistrange baryon and antibaryon production is suggested to be a useful probe in the search for Quark-Gluon Plasma formation. We report the detection of an Ω − + Ω − signal in central S + W interactions at 200 A GeV/c and measure the ratio Ω − Ω − = 0.57±0.41 at central rapidity and p T >1.6 GeV/ c .
Note that this ratio is uncorrected for possible differences in the acceptance and efficiency for omega- and omegabar+ detection.
We have determined the strong coupling αs from measurements of jet rates in hadronic decays of Z0 bosons collected by the SLD experiment at SLAC. Using six collinear and infrared safe jet algorithms we compared our data with the predictions of QCD calculated up to second order in perturbation theory, and also with resummed calculations. We find αs(MZ2)=0.118±0.002(stat)±0.003(syst)±0.010(theory), where the dominant uncertainty is from uncalculated higher order contributions.
The second systematic error comes from the theoretical uncertainties.
A precise measurement of p̄p elastic scattering in the Coulomb-strong interaction interference region was performed at the CERN Sp̄pS Collider at a centre-of-mass energy of 541 GeV. The ratio of the real to the imaginary part of the forward elastic scattering amplitude was found to be ρ = 0.135 ± 0.015. The slope of the exponential fall off of the strong interaction part was also measured to be b = 15.5 ± 0.1 GeV −2 .

Real part of amplitude extracted using a more precise UA4 measurement. (1 +RE(AMP)/IM(AMP)**2)SIG(TOT) = 63.5 +- 1.5 MB (Bozzo et al. PL 147B(1984)392).
We present a measurement of the polarization of Antilambda hyperons produced in nu_mu charged current interactions. The full data sample from the NOMAD experiment has been analyzed using the same V0 identification procedure and analysis method reported in a previous paper for the case of Lambda hyperons. The Antilambda polarization has been measured for the first time in a neutrino experiment. The polarization vector is found to be compatible with zero.

The study of the K + total cross sections on a wide range of nuclei has revealed important modifications of the free-space K + -nucleon interaction when the nucleon is embedded in a nucleus. Data indicating such an effect were first obtained in a comparison of the total cross sections on carbon and deuterium. In this letter we report new measurements on 6 Li, silicon, and calcium, and demonstrate that the previously reported modifications occur quite generally.
