We present results of the total cross section differenceΔσТ obtained in transmission measurements at the energies 0.86, 0.88, 0.91 and 0.94 GeV. The SATURNE II polarized beam of free neutrons obtained from the break-up of polarized deuterons was transmitted through the polarized Saclay frozen-spin proton target. The beam and target polarizations were oriented in the vertical direction. The present results agree with previous SATURNE measurements and improve the amplitude analysis in the forward direction.

The spin dependence of π 0 inclusive production by 24 GeV/ c protons has been measured using a polarized target for Fhe Feynman x near 0 in the transverse momentum range 1.0 < p T < 2.5 GeV/ c . The results indicate a negative updown asymmetry growing strongly with p T and greater than 50% in absolute value for p T greater than 2 GeV/ c .

The cross sections of a number of target residues formed in the reactions of 3.65 A GeV 12C ions and 3.65 GeV protons with tantalum have been measured. The measurements have been done by direct counting of irradiated targets with a Ge(Li) gamma-ray spectrometer. Charge dispersions and mass-yield distributions were deduced from these data. The results are discussed in terms of the basic concepts of high-energy nuclear physics. They are also compared with intranuclear cascade and abrasion-ablation model calculations.

Total cross-section measurements of the π+p→π+π+n reaction at pion kinetic energies of 180, 184, 190, and 200 MeV are reported. The threshold value for the amplitude a(π+π+) as well as the s-wave, isospin 2, ππ scattering length a20 were determined. The results were found to be in agreement with chiral perturbation theory and inconsistent with the calculations of Jacob and Scadron and the model of dominance by quark loop anomalies.

We have measured the magnetic moments of the Σ+ and Σ¯ − hyperons produced by 800-GeV protons incident on a Cu target. We determine the Σ+ magnetic moment to be (2.4613±0.0034±0.0040)μN where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. In this first measurement we determine the magnetic moment of the Σ¯ − to be -(2.428±0.036±0.007)μN. The magnetic moments of the Σ+ and Σ¯ − are consistent with each other in magnitude but opposite in sign as required by CPT invariance.

In the CERN NA32 experiment a high-resolution silicon vertex detector and a purely topological approach were used to collect 557 events consistent with associated charm production, both decay vertices being observed. The pseudorapidity gap distribution appears to be nearly independent of the nature of the charmed hadrons. This distribution is reasonably consistent with the next-to-leading order QCD calculations. However the azimuthal-angle distribution is significantly broader than the above predictions.
FOR ONLY 20 EVENTS IN WICH BOTH DECAYS ARE FULLY RECONSTRUCTED ( 26 D0 , 8 D+ , 5 D/S+ , 1 LAMBDA/C+ CHARMED PARTICLES ).
