An analysis of the production of the Λ baryon in the hadronic decays of the Z 0 is presented, based on about 993K multihadronic events collected by the DELPHI detector at LEP during 1991 and 1992. The differencial cross section of the Λ and the correlations between Λ and Λ produced in the same event are compared to current models, based both on string fragmentation and on cluster decay. The predictions of the string fragmentation model are found to give satisfactory agreements with the data, clearly better than those of the cluster model.

Antiproton-proton elastic scattering was measured at c.m.s. energies √s =546 and 1800 GeV in the range of four-momentum transfer squared 0.025<-t<0.29 GeV2. The data are well described by the exponential form ebt with a slope b=15.28±0.58 (16.98±0.25) GeV−2 at √s =546 (1800) GeV. The elastic scattering cross sections are, respectively, σel=12.87±0.30 and 19.70±0.85 mb.

From a sample of 146900 hadronicZ0 decays recorded by the OPAL detector at LEP, we have studied the azimuthal correlations of particles in hadronic events. It is expected that these correlations are sensitive to interference effects in QCD. We have compared the data to QCD Monte Carlo models which include and which do not include interference effects. We find that the distributions of azimuthal correlations are not reproduced by the parton shower models we have tested unless interference effects are included, no matter which hadronisation scheme is used.

We present data of several rescattering observables measured inn p elastic scattering between 0.80 and 1.10 GeV. The SATURNE II polarized beam of free neutrons obtained from the break-up of polarized deuterons was scattered on the Saclay polarized frozen-spin proton target. Three different configurations of beam and target polarization directions were used: the observablesDonon andKonno were measured with the normal-normal spin configuration at eight energies;Nonkk,Dos″ok andKos″ko were determined with the longitudinal-longitudinal configuration at six energies;Nonsk,Dos″ok andKos″so with the sideway-longitudinal configuration at six energies. Part of the data was obtained with an unpolarized CH2 target where only the two spin-index polarization transfer parametersKos″ko andKos″so were determined. Data are compared with phase shift analyses predictions and with the LAMPF results at 0.788 GeV. Present results are the first measurements of rescattering observables above 0.80 GeV. They provide an important contribution to any future theoretical or phenomenological analysis.

We have measured total cross sections for the reaction π+p→π+π−p at incident pion kinetic energies of 190, 200, 220, 240, and 260 MeV. We use this result to deduce a new value of the chiral symmetry breaking parameter, ξ=-0.25±0.10, in a global constrained fit of the five ππN near-threshold amplitudes. Consequently, we report new soft pion model values for the s-wave ππ scattering lengths.

The total cross section of the pp→ pp η reaction has been measured at incident proton energies of 1.265, 1.3, 1.4 and 1.5 GeV by detecting the two photons from the η decay in the PINOT spectrometer. The data are compared with other near-threshold measurements and with the predictions of existing theoretical calculations.
Value given at 1263 MeV assumes energy 2 MeV lower than nominal value. This uncertainty only affects this lowest energy point.
We study the polarization with respect to the normal to the production plane for a very clean sample of 27217 Λ 0 / Λ 0 hyperons produced in 230 GeV/ c π − Cu interactions. In general we find P(Λ 0 ) ≈ P( Λ 0 ap; 0 except for x F > 0, p T > 1GeV/ c where P ( Λ 0 ) = −0.28±0.09(stat.)±0.02(syst.).

Global properties of the hadronic final state in deep inelastic scattering events at HERA are investigated. The data are corrected for detector effects and are compared directly with QCD phenomenology. Energy flows in both the laboratory frame and the hadronic centre of mass system and energy-energy correlations in the laboratory frame are presented. Comparing various QCD models, the colour dipole model provides the only satisfactory description of the data. In the hadronic centre of mass system the momentum components of charged particles longitudinal and transverse to the virtual boson direction are measured and compared with lower energy lepton-nucleon scattering data as well as withe+e− dat from LEP.
Overall systematic error of 6 pct not included.
Corrected transverse energy-energy correlation TEEC as a function of omega (see text of paper for definition of omega - which effectively defines the distance between hadrons in the pseudorapidity and azimuthal angle). Overall systematic error of 12 pct is not included.
