A search for phi radiative decays has been performed using a data sample of about 2.0 million phi decays collected by the CMD-2 detector at VEPP-2M collider in Novosibirsk. From the selected e+ e- -> pi+ pi- gamma events the following results were obtained: B(phi -> f0(980) gamma) < 1x10-4 for destructive and B(phi -> f0(980) gamma) < 7x10-4 for constructive interference with the Bremsstrahlung process respectively, B(phi -> gamma -> pi+ pi- gamma) < 3x10-5 for E of gamma > 20 MeV, B(phi -> rho gamma) < 7x10-4. From the selected e+ e- -> mu+ mu- gamma events B(phi -> mu+ mu- gamma) = (2.3+-1.0)x10-5 has been obtained for E of gamma> 20 MeV. The upper limit on the P,CP-violating decay eta -> pi+ pi- has also been placed: B(eta -> pi+ pi-) < 9x10-4 . All upper limits are at 90 % C.L.

Results of the measurement of the φ meson parameters with the general purpose detector CMD-2 at the upgraded e + e − collider VEPP-2M at Novosibirsk are presented. This is the first measurement of the four major φ decay modes in a single e + e − experiment. The results based on about 55,600 identified hadronic events are consistent with previous measurements, and have precision comparable to the current world average.

A study of the φ → π + π − π 0 decay mode has been performed using a data sample of about 2.0 million φ decays collected by the CMD-2 detector at VEPP-2M collider in Novosibirsk. The following parameters of the φ -meson have been measured: Br ( φ → π + π − π 0 )=0.145±0.009±0.003 and δ φ − ω =162±17°. The analysis of the Dalitz plot showed the dominance of the φ → ρπ intermediate mechanism, the limits for the ratio of the direct amplitude of φ →3 π to that of φ → ρπ are −0.16< a 1 <0.11 at 90% C.L. The upper limits for the probabilities of the decay modes φ → π + π − η and direct φ → ργγ have been found for the first time: Br ( φ → π + π − η )<3×10 −4 and Br ( φ → ργγ )<5×10 −4 at 90% C.L.

An experiment designed to study the π−p total neutral cross section and its breakdown into several channels has been performed at eleven incident pion momenta ranging from 654 to 1247 MeV/c. Angular distributions for the charge exchange π0 and for η0 production are given in terms of Legendre-polynomial expansion coefficients. Forward and backward differential cross sections are presented for the charge-exchange channel and comparisons with recent dispersion-relation predictions for the forward cross section are made.

This paper presents the results of a study of the dominant neutral final states from π−p interactions. The data were obtained in an experiment performed at the Brookhaven National Laboratory Alternating Gradient Synchrotron, using a set of steel-plate optical spark chambers surrounding a liquid-hydrogen target. We present differential and total cross sections for the reactions (1) π−p→n+π0 and (2) π−p→n+η0(η0→2γ) and total cross sections for the reactions (3) π−p→n+kπ0 (k=2, 3, 4, and 5) and (4) π−p→all neutrals for eighteen values of beam momentum in the interval 1.3 to 4.0 GeV/c. The angular distributions for (1) and (2) have been analyzed in terms of expansions in Legendre polynomials, the coefficients for which are also given.

Measurement of Differential Cross-Sections for Elastic K+ p Scattering in the Momentum Range 0.7-GeV/c to 1.9-GeV/c

Inspire Record 126513 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.8361

Differential cross sections for elastic K + p scattering have been measured at nineteen momenta between 0.7 and 1.9 GeV/ c . The data represent between 10 thousand and 20 thousand elastic events at each momentum and cover a wide range of scattering angles ( −0.98 ≲ cos θ ∗ ≲ 0.95 ). A computer controlled system of scintillation counters and acoustic spark chambers was used to detect the elastic events. Various internal consistency checks indicate that the absolute normalization of the data is accurate to within 2–3%. The cross sections show a smooth transition from an isotropic angular distribution to a dominant forward peak over the range covered by the experiment. Phase-shift analyses including these results show little evidence for a direct-channel resonance, and fitting the results by t - and u -channel exchange processes alone gives a good fit.

Measurements of the electric and magnetic form-factors of the proton from Q**2 = 1.75-GeV/c**2 to 8.83-GeV/c**2

The proton elastic form factors GEp(Q2) and GMp(Q2) have been extracted for Q2=1.75 to 8.83 (GeV/c)2 via a Rosenbluth separation to ep elastic cross section measurements in the angular range 13°≤θ≤90°. The Q2 range covered more than doubles that of the existing data. For Q2<4 (GeV/c)2, where the data overlap with previous measurements, the total uncertainties have been reduced to < 14% in GEp and < 1.5% in GMp. Results for GEp(Q2) are consistent with the dipole fit GD(Q2)=(1+Q2/0.71)−2, while those for GMp(Q2)/μpGD(Q2) decrease smoothly from 1.05 to 0.92. Deviations from form factor scaling are observed up to 20%. The ratio Q2F2/F1 is observed to approach a constant value for Q2>3 (GeV/c)2. Comparisons are made to vector meson dominance, dimensional scaling, QCD sum rule, diquark, and constituent quark models, none of which fully characterize all the new data.

Measurement of Anti-neutron Proton Total and Annihilation Cross-sections From 100-{MeV}/c to 500-{MeV}/c

Total and annihilation n¯p cross sections from 100 to 500 MeV/c are reported, the first such measurements with good statistics in this momentum range. These cross sections are well represented by A+B/p, where p is the incident antineutron momentum, and are in agreement with previous n¯p and p¯n measurements. A comparison of these cross sections with phenomenological potential model calculations is good overall. However, the microscopic quark model gives unsatisfactory predictions. The agreement between previous p¯p annihilation cross sections and n¯p cross sections above 300 MeV/c is excellent. The total n¯p cross section is lower than the total p¯p cross section in this momentum range. Both of these types of behavior are predicted by potential models. The anticipated availability of future p¯p data below 300 MeV/c should indicate whether these trends continue at lower momenta.

$\bar{p} p$ Annihilation Into $\pi^+ \pi^-$ and $K^+ K^-$ From Atomic $p$ States

We have obtained the branching ratios for p p annihilation at rest into π + π − and K + K − in a pure p p initial angular momentum state L = 1. A gaseous hydrogen target at normal pressure and temperature was used and events associated with transitions of the antiprotonic atom to the 2p level were selected by detecting the Balmer X-ray series. The branching ratios for p p annihilation into π + π − and K + K − from the 2p state are (4.81 ± 0.49) × 10 −3 and (2.87 ± 0.51) × 10 −4 , respect The pion yield is slightly larger than in liquid hydrogen, where L = 0 annihilation dominates, while the kaon yield is suppressed by a factor of four. Using these and previous data, we derive the branching ratios for pp annihilation into all ππ and K K modes from S and P states. A measurement in gaseous hydrogen, without X-ray requirement, yields the branching ratios (4.30 ± 0.14) × 10 −3 and (6.92 ± 0.41) × 10 −4 . With the known branching ratios of (3.33 ± 0.17) × 10 −3 and (1.01 ± 0.05) × 10 −3 in liquid hydrogen, we find that (50.3 ± 6.4)% of all annihilations in gas at NTP occur in the initial angular momentum state L = 1.

This paper presents the first measurement of the inclusive J/Psi production cross section in the forward pseudorapidity region 2.5<|eta|<3.7 in ppbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.8TeV. The results are based on 9.8 pb-1 of data collected using the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The inclusive J/Psi cross section for transverse momenta between 1 and 16 GeV/c is compared with theoretical models of charmonium production.
