First exclusive data for the $pp \to nn\pi^+\pi^+$ reaction have been obtained at CELSIUS with the WASA detector setup at a beam energy of $T_p$ = 1.1 GeV. Total and differential cross sections disagree with theoretical calculations, which predict the $\Delta\Delta$ excitation to be the dominant process at this beam energy. Instead the data require the excitation of a higher-lying $\Delta$ state, most likely the $\Delta(1600)$, to be the leading process.

Multiplicity and angular distributions of shower, grey, and black particles produced in the interactions of S32 at 200A GeV, O16 at 200 and 60A GeV, and He4 at ∼140A GeV in emulsion are compared with the predictions of a Monte Carlo code which takes into account the internuclear cascading. The correlations between the various parameters belonging to the same or to the different kinds of particles are discussed. The data on shower and grey particles from all the beams are well described by the code. However, the black prong data show a significant departure from this model.

A recent spin-parity analysis of the π + π + π − system formed opposite a proton and a coherent deuteron by incident 13 GeV/ c 2 π + mesons, is extended to a three-pion mass of 1.9 GeV/ c . Relative proportions of the contributing partial waves are presented, from threshold, and the A 3 region is discussed in detail. Contrary to results with the (3 π ) − system, a change in phase is noted for the 2 − amplitude decaying to f 0 π + via am S-wave.

Cross sections for elastic scattering of 1 GeV protons from40Ca nuclei have been calculated using the flucton model. The influence of the collective flucton nuclaon correlations on the calculated cross sections is examined. The calculated cross sections are in significant disagreement with the experimental data. This may be considered as an argument against the flucton model.

The 1 GeV high resolution proton nucleus scattering is reviewed. The effects from nuclear correlations are considered in detail. The sensitivity of differential cross sections to the one particle density and NN amplitude parameters are demonstrated. An analysis of the elastic proton scattering from the zero-spin nuclei and the obtained information on the neutron and matter distributions are presented. The scattering from a few nonspherical light nuclei is analysed. The first results on proton-nucleus polarization are discussed.

Exclusive $\rho^0$ Meson Photoproduction with a Leading Neutron at HERA

Eur.Phys.J.C 76 (2016) 41, 2016.
Inspire Record 1387751 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.74219

A first measurement is presented of exclusive photoproduction of $\rho^0$ mesons associated with leading neutrons at HERA. The data were taken with the H1 detector in the years $2006$ and $2007$ at a centre-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}=319$ GeV and correspond to an integrated luminosity of $1.16$ pb$^{-1}$. The $\rho^0$ mesons with transverse momenta $p_T<1$ GeV are reconstructed from their decays to charged pions, while leading neutrons carrying a large fraction of the incoming proton momentum, $x_L>0.35$, are detected in the Forward Neutron Calorimeter. The phase space of the measurement is defined by the photon virtuality $Q^2 < 2$ GeV$^2$, the total energy of the photon-proton system $20 < W_{\gamma p} < 100$ GeV and the polar angle of the leading neutron $\theta_n < 0.75$ mrad. The cross section of the reaction $\gamma p \to \rho^0 n \pi^+$ is measured as a function of several variables. The data are interpreted in terms of a double peripheral process, involving pion exchange at the proton vertex followed by elastic photoproduction of a $\rho^0$ meson on the virtual pion. In the framework of one-pion-exchange dominance the elastic cross section of photon-pion scattering, $\sigma^{\rm el}(\gamma\pi^+ \to \rho^0\pi^+)$, is extracted. The value of this cross section indicates significant absorptive corrections for the exclusive reaction $\gamma p\to\rho^0 n \pi^+$.

Observation of an A3 Amplitude Phase Change

Thompson, G. ; Badewitz, R.C. ; Gaidos, J.A. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.Lett. 32 (1974) 331, 1974.
Inspire Record 772 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.21334

A spin and parity decomposition is presented of the (π+π+π−) final state formed opposite a proton by incident 13-GeV/c π+ mesons. The A3 enhancement is identified as the 2− amplitude decaying to f0π+ via an S wave. A change in relative phase is noted between the 2−S amplitude and the other principal contributions; this is not incompatible with analyses of the (3π)− system. The method employs the University of Illinois three-body partialwave analysis program.
