Results are presented on inclusive production of resonant and non-resonant particle systems produced inK+p interactions at 32 GeV/c. We compareK*+(892),\(\bar \Sigma ^{ *- } \)(1385), Σ*±(1385), and ϱ0 inclusivex-spectra with the ones of non-resonantKs0π±,\(\bar \Lambda \pi ^ -\), Λπ± and π+π− pairs at the same effective mass. Resonance-particle pairsK*+π±, Σ*+π−, and\(\bar \Sigma ^{ *- } \pi ^ -\) are also studied together with non-resonant tripletsKs0π±, Λπ+π−,\(\bar \Lambda \pi ^ -\pi ^ -\). The invariantx-spectra of resonant particle pairs decrease less rapidly withx then the corresponding non-resonant pairs. Comparison with quark-recombination predictions indicates that the particles, resonances and multiparticle systems are probably created off a single valence quark or diquark instead of carrying all possible valence-quarks.

FROM MAXIMUM LIKELIHOOD FIT TO PARAMETRIZATION OF RESONANCE PRODUCTION CHANNELS.

New experimental results are presented on inclusive production properties of\(\bar \Sigma ^{ *+ } \)(1385) and\(\bar \Sigma ^{ *+ } \)(1385) inK+p interactions at 32 GeV/c. The analysis is based on significantly larger statistics than previously available. A comparison is also made of invariantx-distributions ofK0/\(\bar K^0 \),\(\bar \Lambda \) and\(\bar \Xi ^ +\) and of\(\bar \Sigma ^{ *\pm } \)(1385) andK*+(892). These spectra exhibit regularities expected from the quark-recombination picture when it is assumed that the strange mesons and antibaryons are produced off the strange\(\bar s\)-valence-quark in the incidentK+ meson. Transverse momentum distributions are also presented forK*+(892) and\(\bar \Sigma ^{ *\pm } \)(1385) and found to be very similar. The results on strange antibaryon average multiplicities disagree strongly with a recent version of the additive quark model.

The total and topological 4Hep cross sections as well as the cross sections of the separate 4Hep interaction channels and the differential cross sections of the elastic 4Hep scattering were measured using the 2m hydrogen bubble chamber exposed to a separated beam of alpha-particles from the ITEP synchrotron at 5 GeV/c (the kinetic energy of the initial protons in the nuclear rest frame was 620 MeV). The data obtained have been compared with the results of the previous experiments and with the theoretical predictions based on the Glauber-Sitenko multiple-scattering theory.

The differential cross sections d sigma /dt of the reactions 3H+p to 3He+n and 3H+p to 3H+p at a triton momentum of 2.5 GeV/c (equivalent to a proton kinetic energy Tp=318 MeV) have been measured. The ITEP 80 cm hydrogen bubble chamber was exposed to a 2.5 GeV/c separated triton beam. 2350 events of the reaction 3H(p,n)3He and 2574 events of the reaction 3H(p,p)3H were selected and analysed. Calculations performed in the framework of the multiple scattering theory taking the spin-isospin structure of the NN amplitude into account fit the data very well and show the high sensitivity of the charge-exchange cross section to the double spin-flip NN amplitudes.

The reaction of tp → pdn in 4π geometry was investigated by exposition of an 80 cm liquid hydrogen bubble chamber to a t-nucleus beam of 2.5 GeV/ c momentum. The inclusive production of Ξ + and Ξ − hyperons is investigated in K + p interactions at 32 GeV/ c . The production cross sections, 36.4±9 μ b for the Ξ + and 6.5±3 μ b for the Ξ − , are rising strongly with energy similarly to Λ and Λ production in K + p interactions. The Ξ + are produced preferentially in the forward direction in the c.m.s., while the Ξ − are produced dominantly backwards. The average transverse momenta 〈p T 〉 Ξ + =0.73±0.09 GeV /c and 〈 p T 〉 Ξ − =0.58±0.09 GeV/ c .

Production of Sigma- and Lambda(1520) in hadronic Z decays has been measured using the DELPHI detector at LEP. The Sigma- is directly reconstructed as a charged track in the DELPHI microvertex detector and is identified by its Sigma -> n pi decay leading to a kink between the Sigma- and pi-track. The reconstruction of the Lambda(1520) resonance relies strongly on the particle identification capabilities of the barrel Ring Imaging Cherenkov detector and on the ionisation loss measurement of the TPC. Inclusive production spectra are measured for both particles. The production rates are measured to be <N_{Sigma-}/N_{Z}^{had}> = 0.081 +/- 0.002 +/- 0.010, <N_{Lambda(1520)}/N_{Z}^{had}> = 0.029 +/- 0.005 +/- 0.005. The production rate of the Lambda(1520) suggests that a large fraction of the stable baryons descend from orbitally excited baryonic states. It is shown that the baryon production rates in Z decays follow a universal phenomenological law related to isospin, strangeness and mass of the particles.

The production of K s 0 , Λ and Λ is measured in π + p interactions at 32 GeV/ c . The total inclusive cross sections are found to be 2.07±0.14, 1.00±0.10 and 0.14±0.04 mb, respectively. The energy dependence of total inclusive cross sections and inclusive distributions is discussed and a comparison is made with p, p , K + and K − induced reactions. We find that the factorization hypothesis is satisfied for the inclusive reactions π + p→ Λ X and K + p→ Λ X. Multi-strange-particle production is similar in π + p and K + p interactions at 32 GeV/ c . There is evidence for beam fragmentation in Λ production. The hierarchy of Λ inclusive cross sections in p , K + , π + and K − induced reactions at 32 GeV/ c is qualitatively explained by a quark recombination model. The cross sections for inclusive K ∗ + (892) and Σ + (1385) production in 32 GeV/ c π + p interactions are 1.07±0.57 mb and 0.19±0.08 mb, respectively.

The experimental energy, angular and isotopic distributions for hydrogen and helium nuclei produced in 6.7 GeV deuteron interactions with 58Ni and 64Ni isotopes are presented. DELPHI results are presented on the inclusive production of the neutral mesons ρ 0 , f 0 (980), f 2 (1270), K ∗0 2 (1430) and f ′ 2 (1525) in hadronic Z 0 decays. They are based on about 2 million multihadronic events collected in 1994 and 1995, using the particle identification capabilities of the DELPHI Ring Imaging Cherenkov detectors and measured ionization losses in the Time Projection Chamber. The total production rates per hadronic Z 0 decay have been determined to be: 1.19±0.10 for ρ 0 ; 0.164±0.021 for f 0 (980); 0.214±0.038 for f 2 (1270); 0.073±0.023 for K ∗0 2 (1430) ; and 0.012±0.006 for f ′ 2 (1525). The total production rates for all mesons and differential cross-sections for the ρ 0 , f 0 (980) and f 2 (1270) are compared with the results of other LEP experiments and with models.
