We measured elastic-scattering angular distributions for π++p scattering at 1.5, 2.0, and 2.5 BeV/c using spark chambers to detect scattered pions and protons. A bump that decreases in amplitude with increasing momentum is observed in the backward hemisphere in the 1.5- and 2.0-BeV/c distributions, but is not observed in the 2.5-BeV/c distributions. It appears reasonable to attribute this phenomenon to the 1.45-BeV/c resonance observed in the π++p total cross section. The data are compared with π−+p data and are found to support the theoretical prediction that the scattering cross sections for both charge states should become equal at high energies. We fit the angular distributions with a power series in cosθ*, and compare the extrapolated values for the scattering cross section in the backward direction with the calculation of the neutron-exchange pole contribution to the cross section. The "elementary" neutron-pole term contribution is calculated to be 90 mb/sr at 2.0 BeV/c, in violent disagreement with the extrapolated value, ≈0.5 mb/sr.

Peripheral Behavior of anti-p p --> K*+- K-+ Between 1-GeV/c and 2.5-GeV/c

Baubillier, M. ; De Billy, L. ; Rivoal, M. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.B 104 (1976) 277-289, 1976.
Inspire Record 113110 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.35964

The reaction p p → K ∗ K does not exhibit any s -channel resonance effect between 1 and 2.5 GeV/ c . On the contrary, the data on p p → K ∗∓ K ± are compatible with an exchange mechanism in the t - and u -channels above 1.5 GeV/ c . Strong similarities are found with p p → K − K + and K ∗− K ∗+ . The polarisation of K ∗± is given. The reaction p p → K ∗0 K 0 vanishes above 1.5 GeV/ c

Study of photoproduction on hydrogen in a streamer chamber with tagged photons for 1.6 GeV $ < E_\gamma <$ 6.3 GeV Topological and reaction cross sections

We have studied photoproduction using a 1 m streamer chamber at DESY and a tagged photon beam with an energy range of 1.6 GeV < E γ < 6.3 GeV. We analysed approximately 30 000 events and report topological, channel and resonance production cross sections for a large number of reactions with three and five outgoing charged particles.

Anti-Proton-Proton Charge-Exchange Between 1-GeV/c and 3-GeV/c

We have measured the reaction cross section for p¯p→n¯n in small momentum steps between 0.97 and 3.13 Gev/c to a high level of statistical accuracy. Structures are observed in the vicinity of Plab=1.25 GeVc and 1.8 GeVc which are consistent with the structure observed in the p¯p total cross section.

Photoproduction of positive pions at 180 degrees from 0.22 to 3.1 gev

Phys.Rev.Lett. 27 (1971) 1244-1247, 1971.
Inspire Record 68896 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.21483

The π+ photoproduction cross section in hydrogen has been measured at 180° for photon energies from 0.22 to 3.1 GeV by detecting the pion in the backward direction. The statistical accuracy of the measurements varies typically from 3 to 10% depending on the energy. The data are compared with other recent experimental results and predictions of phenomenological theories.

Photoproduction of Negative Pions on a Polarized Neutron Target in the Resonance Region

Althoff, K.H. ; Beckschulze, H. ; Conrad, R. ; et al.
Nucl.Phys.B 96 (1975) 497-508, 1975.
Inspire Record 99642 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.31932

At the Bonn 2.5 GeV electron synchrotron the first measurements of the target asymmetry for the reaction γ + n ↑ → π − + p have been performed. The negative pions were detected in a magnetic spectrometer at a constant pion c.m. angle of 40° and photon energies between 0.45 GeV and 2.0 GeV. Deuterated butanol was used as target material. The polarization of the deuterons was about 16%. The results show a significant difference from the previously measured π + asymmetry.

Fluctuations in Large Angle $\pi^\pm p$ Elastic Scattering

Jenkins, K.A. ; Price, L.E. ; Klem, R. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.Lett. 40 (1978) 429, 1978.
Inspire Record 6210 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.76245

Large-angle π±p elastic-scattering cross sections, measured between 2 and 9 GeV/c in fine intervals of incident momentum and scattering angle, are used to search for cross-section fluctuations occurring for small changes in the center-of-mass energy as suggested by Ericson and Mayer-Kuckuck and by Frautschi. Significant fluctuations are observed.
