We present the inclusive and semi-inclusive production of protons, π+, π−, for the full range of kinematic variables, from 7850 inelastic interactions obtained in the 4.7 m liquid-hydrogen bubble chamber Mirabelle at the Serpukhov accelerator and with an incident proton beam of 69 GeV/c. We compare the data with those at other energies, and we give the results of different phenomenological fits.

Inclusive and Semiinclusive Two Pion Correlations in p p Collisions at 69-GeV/c

Nuovo Cim.A 33 (1976) 721, 1976.
Inspire Record 99995 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.8917

Correlations between pions produced in pp collisions at 69 GeV/c are observed both for π−π+ and π−π−. Short-range correlations in rapidity are present fory1⋍y2 in both cases; an enhancement is seen aroundy1=y2=±1. Correlations between transverse variables are linked to those in rapidity for π−π− combinations, whereas the effect is essentially kinematical for π+π−.

A Measurement of the Nucleon Structure Functions

Inspire Record 141067 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.4434

Measurements have been made of the inclusive scattering of 96, 147, and 219 GeV muons from hydrogen, and of 147 GeV muons from deuterium. Results are presented for the nucleon structure function F2(x,Q2) [≡νW2(x,Q2)] for 10<ν<200 GeV and 0.2<Q2<80 GeV2. The value of F2 rises with Q2 at small x, and falls with Q2 at large x, in agreement with the ideas of quantum chromodynamics. An average value of the ratio σLσT≡R=0.52±0.35 has been obtained for the region 0.003<x<0.10 and 0.4<Q2<30 GeV2. The values of F2 from this experiment have been combined with those from other charged-lepton scattering experiments to determine moments of the structure functions. The variation with Q2 of these moments is used to derive values for Λ, taking into account corrections up to second order in αs. The fit to the data is very good.

Experimental Studies of the Neutron and Proton Electromagnetic Structure Functions

We have carried out an experimental study of the neutron and proton deep-inelastic electromagnetic structure functions. The structure functions were extracted from electron-proton and electron-deuteron differential cross sections measured in three experiments spanning the angles 6°, 10°, 15°, 18°, 19°, 26°, and 34°. We report primarily on the large-angle (15°-34°) measurements. Neutron cross sections were extracted from the deuteron data using an impulse approximation. Our results are consistent with the hypothesis that the nucleon is composed of pointlike constituents. The variation of the cross section with angle suggests that the hypothetical constituents have spin ½. The data for σnσp, the ratio of the neutron and proton differential cross sections, are in the range 0.25 to 1.0, and are within the limits imposed by the quark model. Detailed studies of the structure functions were made for a range of the scaling variable ω from ω=1.3 to ω=10.0, and for a range of invariant four-momentum transfer Q2 from 1.0 to 20.0 GeV2. These studies indicate that the structure functions approximately scale in the variable ω, although significant deviations from scaling in ω are apparent in the region 1.3<ω<3.3. These deviations from scaling are in the same direction and of similar magnitude for both neutron and proton. The interpretation of the data in terms of various theoretical models is discussed.

We derive cross-sections for the inclusive productiion in p̄p interactions at 100 GeV /c of π 0 , K S 0 and Λ 0 Λ 0 of 91.5±5.7 mb, 5.2±0.4 mb and 4.8±0.4 mb respectively, which are all higher than pp cross-sections at energy. We find indications that these differences can be attributed to “annihilation” processes.

K0 and Lambda Production at the CERN ISR

Transverse momentum distributions of λ o , λ o , and K o , produced in pp collisions at x = 0, have obtained at the CERN ISR. The K o yield is in agreement with published K + , K − results, obtained at this centre-of-mass energy (√ s ≈44 GeV). The results on λ o and λ o production obtained in this experiment are compared with results obtained at lower centre-of-mass energies.

The differential cross sections for π − p elastic scattering have been measured near 180°, in the momentum range 875–1580 MeV/c. The results are compared with recent phase shift analysis, showing some notable discrepancies.

Production of pi+ and pi- at Large Transverse Momentum in p p and p d Collisions at 200-GeV, 300-GeV, and 400-GeV.

We have measured the production of π+ and π− in 200-, 300-, and 400-GeV p−p and 400-GeV p−d collisions for transverse momenta (p⊥) ranging from 0.77 to 7.67 GeV/c. At large values of x⊥=2p⊥s, where s is the c.m. energy, we have fitted the p−p data to the form A(1−x⊥)bp⊥−n; we obtain n=8.2±0.5 for π+ and 8.5±0.5 for π−. At x⊥>0.3 the π+π− ratio in p−p collisions rises appreciably with increasing x⊥ whereas the π+π− ratio obtained from the difference of p−d and p−p cross sections is ∼ 1.0 at all x⊥.

Neutrino and anti-neutrinos Charged Current Inclusive Scattering in Iron in the Energy Range 20-GeV < Neutrino Energy < 300-GeV

Inclusive charged-current interactions of high-energy neutrinos and antineutrinos have been studied with high statistics in a counter experiment at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron. The energy dependence of the total cross-sections, the longitudinal structure function, and the nucleon structure functionsF2,xF3, and\(\bar q^{\bar v} \) are determined from these data. The analysis of theQ2-dependence of the structure functions is used to test quantum chromodynamics, to determine the scale parameter Λ and the gluon distribution in the nucleon.
