Lambda Polarization at 90-degrees in K+Lambda Photoproduction

The Λ polarization and the differential cross section for the reaction γ+p→K++Λ have been measured, using the Caltech synchrotron, at 90° in the c.m. system and at laboratory photon energies of 1100, 1200, and 1300 MeV. Protons from the asymmetric decay of the Λ were detected by counters placed above and below the production plane. Kaons were identified by their behavior in a thick range telescope. Polarization results were PΛ=+0.34±0.09 at 1100 MeV, +0.30±0.07 at 1200 MeV, and +0.08±0.07 at 1300 MeV, where PΛ was measured in the p^γ×p^Λ direction. The differential cross section was constant with energy at 0.14±0.01 μb/sr. Although the apparent bump in the polarization at 90° at a total energy of ≈1700 MeV adds support to models which invoke a resonance here, no really new conclusions can be reached.

K+Lambda Photoproduction from Hydrogen at 1200 MeV

Peck, Charles W. ;
Phys.Rev. 135 (1964) B830-B838, 1964.
Inspire Record 46599 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.26722

Measurements of the angular distribution of the cross section for the photoproduction of the K+Λ system from hydrogen have been made in the c.m. angular interval from 15° to 85° at a photon energy of 1200 MeV. The reaction was identified by detecting the K+ mesons with a magnet spectrometer and a velocity selection system consisting of two Čerenkov counters. The angular distribution at this energy is very similar to that at lower energies in that it is peaked forward and is easily fit with a quadratic in cosθc.m.. Special emphasis was placed on the forward direction in an attempt to find evidence for the one-K-exchange pole. A Taylor-Moravcsik analysis of the data is presented, but the results are inconclusive.

Photoproduction cross sections for $\pi^+$ and $K^+$ mesons at 3.4 to 4.0 {GeV} and their comparison with {SU(3)}

Phys.Rev. 156 (1967) 1433-1443, 1967.
Inspire Record 51624 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.406

The differential cross sections for the photoproduction reactions γ+p→π++n, γ+p→K++Λ0, and γ+p→K++Σ0 have ben measured for incident laboratory photon energies between 3.4 and 4.0 GeV and for meson center-of-mass angles from about 25° to 45°. The reactions were studied by observing only the charged mesons. The momenta, velocities, and angles of the mesons were measured with a magnetic spectrometer, and the equivalent of nearly monochromatic gamma rays was obtained by performing bremsstrahlung subtractions. The cross sections agree with the inequality predicted from unbroken SU(3). The measured behavior of dσdt as a function of t shows similarities to that observed in studies of mesonnucleon scattering.

The total and differential cross sections of the K¯0p→Λπ+ and K¯0p→∑0π+ reactions have been measured in the centre-of-mass energy range of l.5 to 2.3 GeV. Using our K¯0p→∑0π+ data as well as available cross-section data of isospin related channels, we have calculated the total I=0K¯N→∑π cross section as function of energy. The results are compared with predictions obtained from K¯N phase-shift analyses.

Differential Cross-Section Measurements of K+ n --> K0 p at K+ Momenta of 0.7-GeV/c, 0.8-GeV/c and 0.9-GeV/c

Recent interest in the low-energy kaon-nucleon system has been substantially motivated by the possible existence of an exotic positive-strangeness, isospin-zero baryon resonance. We report here measurements of the cross section and differential cross section for K+n charge-exchange scattering in our exposure of the BNL 30-inch deuterium bubble chamber to a K+ beam at 0.7, 0.8; and 0.9 GeV/c. We compare our results with previous results and with the predictions of a recently published phase-shift analysis.

Electroproduction of K+ Mesons Along the Virtual Photon Direction

We report measurements of kaon electroproduction from hydrogen and deuterium targets carried out at the Wilson Synchrotron Laboratory at Cornell University. The reactions γVp→K+X0, K+Γ, and K+Σ0 were studied in the kinematic region 2.15≤W≤3.1 GeV and 1.2<Q2<4.0 GeV2 as a function of Q2, W, and ω. The K+Σ0 cross sections fall much more rapidly with increasing Q2 than the K+Λ cross sections so that K+Σ0KΛ→0 as Q2 increases.

Scalar-Transverse Separation of Electroproduced K+ Lambda and K+ Sigma0 Final States

We present evidence for a large scalar contribution to the cross section for the reaction ep→eK+Λ. No evidence for a scalar contribution is found for the reaction ep→eK+Σ0. This is reminiscent of the results for the π+n and π+Δ0 final states.
