Charged hadron multiplicity fluctuations in Au+Au and Cu+Cu collisions from sqrt(s_NN) = 22.5 to 200 GeV

Phys.Rev.C 78 (2008) 044902, 2008.
Inspire Record 785509 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.143616

A comprehensive survey of event-by-event fluctuations of charged hadron multiplicity in relativistic heavy ions is presented. The survey covers Au+Au collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 62.4 and 200 GeV, and Cu+Cu collisions sqrt(s_NN) = 22.5, 62.4, and 200 GeV. Fluctuations are measured as a function of collision centrality, transverse momentum range, and charge sign. After correcting for non-dynamical fluctuations due to fluctuations in the collision geometry within a centrality bin, the remaining dynamical fluctuations expressed as the variance normalized by the mean tend to decrease with increasing centrality. The dynamical fluctuations are consistent with or below the expectation from a superposition of participant nucleon-nucleon collisions based upon p+p data, indicating that this dataset does not exhibit evidence of critical behavior in terms of the compressibility of the system. An analysis of Negative Binomial Distribution fits to the multiplicity distributions demonstrates that the heavy ion data exhibit weak clustering properties.

Lambda-Proton Elastic Scattering from 1-GeV/c to 17-GeV/c

Phys.Rev.D 11 (1975) 473-477, 1975.
Inspire Record 103336 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.24870

The Λ-proton elastic scattering cross section has been measured between 1 and 17 GeV/c in a bubble chamber experiment. These are the first measurements of the elastic cross section for pΛ>5 GeV/c. The Λ's were produced by 25-GeV/c proton interactions in a platinum target. The cross section falls from 22 to 4 mb over the region. No significant polarization is observed.

Data from the ANL 12-foot bubble chamber have been used to study the K¯0π− system in the reaction K−p→K¯0pπ− at 6.5 GeV/c. Signals for the production of K*(892), K*(1430), and K*(1780) were observed with cross sections of 181±22, 41.2±6, and 8.4±2.9 ≥b, respectively. The partial waves contributing to the production of the K¯0π− system from threshold up to 1.7 GeV were studied. The principal conclusions are: (i) K*(892) and K*(1430) production is dominated by natural-parity exchange, (ii) the ratio of unnatural- to natural-parity exchange increases with the resonance mass, consistent with the predictions of a triple-Regge model, (iii) there is evidence for a broad 0+ s-wave enhancement, with considerable s−d and s−p interference, centered at 1.2 GeV, and (iv) the m=2 amplitudes are negligible.

Inspire Record 81409 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.4763

We report on an experiment to obtain differential cross sections for K+p elastic scattering in the vicinity of the possible exotic baryon, the Z1*(1900). The differential cross sections are based on typically 70 000 selected events in the angular region −0.9≤cosθc.m.≤0.9 at each of 22 momenta from 0.865 to 2.125 GeV/c. The data are intended for use in partial-wave analysis to search for the Z1*.

Results are presented of differential cross-section measurements for the reaction π − p→ π 0 n; π 0 → γγ at 22 incident pion momenta between 618 and 2724 MeV/ c . The results are in good agreement with those of other experiments. They represent the first comprehensive set of high statistics measurements of the π − p charge-exchange differential cross section at closely spaced momenta in the resonance region.

PHOTOPRODUCTION OF pi- delta++ (1236) FROM HYDROGEN FROM 5-GeV TO 16-GeV

Boyarski, A. ; Diebold, Robert E. ; Ecklund, Stanley D. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.Lett. 22 (1969) 148-151, 1969.
Inspire Record 52692 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.21668

The cross section for γp→π−Δ++(1236), measured at 5, 8, 11, and 16 GeV from nearzero momentum transfer to -1 GeV2 (-2 GeV2 at 16 GeV), rises from small t to a maximum near −t=mπ2, then falls as e12t out to −t≈0.2 GeV2, after which it becomes roughly equal in slope and magnitude to the single π+ photoproduction cross section (e3t). At fixed t, the cross section varies as k−2, where k is the laboratory photon energy. The results do not agree well with the simple vector-dominance model.

Measurement of Cross-sections and Asymmetry Parameters for the Production of Charged Pions From Various Nuclei by 585-{MeV} Protons

Crawford, J.F. ; Daum, M. ; Eaton, G.H. ; et al.
Phys.Rev.C 22 (1980) 1184-1196, 1980.
Inspire Record 143030 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.26362

We have measured the differential cross section d2σdΩdTπ and the polarization parameter P for the production of π+ and π− in various target nuclei (H1, H2, Be, C, O, Al, Ni, Cu, Mo, and Pb) by protons with a kinetic energy of 585 MeV, for production angles θπ=22.5°, 45°, 60°, 90°, and 135°, and for pion kinetic energies Tπ of 24, 35, 46, 88, 151, 192, and 254 MeV (all quantities in the laboratory system). Our data disagree strongly with recent data for 580-MeV protons. On the other hand, for pion energies up to 150 MeV, our cross sections differ little from those measured for a proton energy of 730 MeV. For nuclei with A>20, the total production cross sections σ(π+) and σ(π−) show the Z13 and N23 proportionality expected from theoretical arguments. There is evidence in our data of a shift of the π+ energy distributions compared to the π− distributions due to the effects of the Coulomb field of the nuclear protons on the emitted pions. NUCLEAR REACTIONS H1, H2, Be, C, O, Al, Ni, Cu, Mo, Pb p, π±, Tp=585 MeV; measured σ(Tπ, θπ) and asymmetry parameter P(Tπ, θπ).
