We report on two-particle azimuthal angle correlations between charged hadrons at forward/backward (deuteron/gold going direction) rapidity and charged hadrons at mid-rapidity in deuteron-gold (d+Au) and proton-proton (p+p) collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 200 GeV. Jet structures are observed in the correlations which we quantify in terms of the conditional yield and angular width of away side partners. The kinematic region studied here samples partons in the gold nucleus carrying nucleon momentum fraction x~0.1 to x~0.01. Within this range, we find no x dependence of the jet structure in d+Au collisions.

Direct photons have been measured in sqrt(s_NN)=200 GeV d+Au collisions at midrapidity. A wide p_T range is covered by measurements of nearly-real virtual photons (1<p_T<6 GeV/c) and real photons (5<p_T<16 GeV/c). The invariant yield of the direct photons in d+Au collisions over the scaled p+p cross section is consistent with unity. Theoretical calculations assuming standard cold nuclear matter effects describe the data well for the entire p_T range. This indicates that the large enhancement of direct photons observed in Au+Au collisions for 1.0<p_T<2.5 GeV/c is due to a source other than the initial-state nuclear effects.
$R_{dA}$ ($d$+Au data/scaled $p+p$ fit). Nuclear modification factor for $d$+Au, $R_{dA}$, as a function of $p_{T}$ . The closed and open symbols show the results from the virtual- and real-photon measurements, respectively. The values in the table are equal to this mean value. The bars and bands represent the point-to-point (ptp.) and $p_{T}$-correlated (cor.) uncertainties, respectively. The box on the right shows the uncertainty of $T_{dA}$ for $d$+Au. The curves indicate the theoretical calculations [24] with different combinations of the CNM effects such as the Cronin enhancement, isospin effect, nuclear shadowing and initial state energy loss.
Transverse momentum spectra of charged hadrons with p_T < 8 GeV/c and neutral pions with p_T < 10 GeV/c have been measured at mid-rapidity by the PHENIX experiment at RHIC in d+Au collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 200 GeV. The measured yields are compared to those in p+p collisions at the same sqrt(s_NN) scaled up by the number of underlying nucleon-nucleon collisions in d+Au. The yield ratio does not show the suppression observed in central Au+Au collisions at RHIC. Instead, there is a small enhancement in the yield of high momentum particles.

Dihadron correlations at high transverse momentum in d+Au collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 200 GeV at midrapidity are measured by the PHENIX experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC). From these correlations we extract several structural characteristics of jets; the root-mean-squared (RMS) transverse momentum of fragmenting hadrons with respect to the jet sqrt(<j_T^2>), the mean sine-squared angle between the scattered partons <sin^2(phi_jj)>, and the number of particles produced within the dijet that are associated with a high-p_T particle (dN/dx_E distributions). We observe that the fragmentation characteristics of jets in d+Au collisions are very similar to those in p+p collisions and that there is also little dependence on the centrality of the d+Au collision. This is consistent with the nuclear medium having little influence on the fragmentation process. Furthermore, there is no statistically significant increase in the value of <sin^2(phi_jj)> from p+p to d+Au collisions. This constrains the amount of multiple scattering that partons undergo in the cold nuclear medium before and after a hard-collision.

We present the first measurements of femtoscopic correlations between the K$^0_{\rm S}$ and K$^{\rm \pm}$ particles in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV measured by the ALICE experiment. The observed femtoscopic correlations are consistent with final-state interactions proceeding solely via the $a_0(980)$ resonance. The extracted kaon source radius and correlation strength parameters for K$^0_{\rm S}$K$^{\rm -}$ are found to be equal within the experimental uncertainties to those for K$^0_{\rm S}$K$^{\rm +}$. Results of the present study are compared with those from identical-kaon femtoscopic studies also performed with pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV by ALICE and with a K$^0_{\rm S}$K$^{\rm \pm}$ measurement in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=2.76$ TeV. Combined with the Pb-Pb results, our pp analysis is found to be compatible with the interpretation of the $a_0(980)$ having a tetraquark structure instead of that of a diquark.

Two-pion correlations in sqrt(s_NN)=130 GeV Au+Au collisions at RHIC have been measured over a broad range of pair transverse momentum k_T by the PHENIX experiment at RHIC. The k_T dependent transverse radii are similar to results from heavy ion collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 4.1, 4.9, and 17.3 GeV, whereas the longitudinal radius increases monotonically with beam energy. The ratio of the outwards to sidewards transverse radii (R_out/R_side) is consistent with unity and independent of k_T.
The top panel shows the measured $R_{side}$ from identical pions for PHENIX. The bottom panel shows the ratio $R_{out}/R_{side}$ as a function of $k_T$. Longitudinal Co-Moving System (LCMS) frame for $\pi^+$
The anisotropy parameter v_2, the second harmonic of the azimuthal particles distribution, has been measured with the PHENIX detector in Au+Au collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 200 GeV for identified and inclusive charged particles at central rapidities (|eta| < 0.35) with respect to the reaction plane defined at high rapidities (|eta| = 3-4). The v_2 for all particles reaches a maximum at mid-centrality, and increases with p_T up to 2 GeV/c and then saturates or decreases slightly. Our results depart from hydrodynamically predicted behavior above 2 GeV/c. A quark coalescence model is also investigated.

We present results on the measurement of lambda and lambda^bar production in Au+Au collisions at sqrt(s_NN)=130 GeV with the PHENIX detector at RHIC. The transverse momentum spectra were measured for minimum bias and for the 5% most central events. The lambda^bar/lambda ratios are constant as a function of p_T and the number of participants. The measured net lambda density is significantly larger than predicted by models based on hadronic strings (e.g. HIJING) but in approximate agreement with models which include the gluon junction mechanism.

Inclusive transverse momentum spectra of eta mesons have been measured within p_T = 2-10 GeV/c at mid-rapidity by the PHENIX experiment in Au+Au collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 200 GeV. In central Au+Au the eta yields are significantly suppressed compared to peripheral Au+Au, d+Au and p+p yields scaled by the corresponding number of nucleon-nucleon collisions. The magnitude, centrality and p_T dependence of the suppression is common, within errors, for eta and pi^0. The ratio of eta to pi^0 spectra at high p_T amounts to 0.40 < R_eta/pi^0 < 0.48 for the three systems in agreement with the world average measured in hadronic and nuclear reactions and, at large scaled momentum, in e^+e^- collisions.

Point-to-point uncorrelated uncertainties are called "sys-uncorr", point-to-point correlated uncertainties are called "sys-corr", and normalization uncertainties are called "sys-norm."
New measurements are presented for charged hadron azimuthal correlations at mid-rapidity in Au+Au collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 62.4 and 200 GeV. They are compared to earlier measurements obtained at sqrt(s_NN) = 130 GeV and in Pb+Pb collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 17.2 GeV. Sizeable anisotropies are observed with centrality and transverse momentum (p_T) dependence characteristic of elliptic flow (v_2). For a broad range of centralities, the observed magnitudes and trends of the differential anisotropy, v_2(p_T), change very little over the collision energy range sqrt(s_NN) = 62-200 GeV, indicating saturation of the excitation function for v_2 at these energies. Such a saturation may be indicative of the dominance of a very soft equation of state for sqrt(s_NN) = 62-200 GeV.
