With 4.36×106 events, spin precession in a magnetic field has been used to measure the magnetic moment of the Ξ− hyperon as -0.6505±0.0025 nuclear magnetons.
The polarization PΞ− of Ξ− hyperons produced by 800-GeV protons has been measured for xF from 0.3 to 0.7 and pT from 0.5 to 1.5 GeV/c. PΞ− has a pT dependence similar to that of the Λ but has a different xF behavior. Also, an energy dependence of PΞ− has been observed.
The polarization of Ξ¯ + hyperons produced by 800-GeV/c protons in the inclusive reaction p+Be→Ξ¯ ++X has been measured. The average polarization of the Ξ¯ +, at a mean xF=0.39 and pt=0.76 GeV/c, is -0.097±0.012±0.009. The magnetic moment of the Ξ¯ + is 0.657±0.028±0.020 nuclear magneton.
Using the Primakoff formalism, we have extracted the radiative decay width of the A + 2 (1310) produced in coherent interactions of 200 GeV/ c π + mesons in nuclear targets. The width obtained is 295 ± 60 keV, a value consistent with quark-model predictions.
Using the Primakoff formalism, we have extracted the radiative decay width of the K ∗+ (1430) produced in coherent interactions of 200 GeV/ c K + mesons in nuclear targets. The width obtained is 240 ± 45 keV, a value reasonably consistent with quark-model predictions.
Results are reported based on a study of 3114 π−p events at 205 GeV/c in the National Accelerator Laboratory 30-in. bubble chamber. The measured π−p total and elastic cross sections are 24.0 ± 0.5 and 3.0 ± 0.3 mb, respectively. The elastic differential cross section has a slope of 9.0 ± 0.7 GeV−2 for 0.03≤−t≤0.6 GeV2. The average charged-particle multiplicity for the inelastic events is 8.02 ± 0.12.
Coherent production of Kπ systems observed in the excitation of 200-GeV/c positive kaons on nuclear targets has been analyzed, including both electromagnetic and strong contributions, to yield a new value for the radiative width for the process K*+(890)→K+γ of 51 ± 5 keV.
We have measured $\rho$ , the ratio of the real to the imaginary part of the $p \bar{p}$ forward elastic scattering amplitude, at $\sqrt{s}$ = 1.8 TeV. Our result is $\rho$ = 0.132 $\pm$ 0.056; this can be combined with a previous measurement at the same energy to give $\rho$ = 0.135 $\pm$ 0.044.
We report measurements from elastic photoproduction of ω's on hydrogen for photon energies between 60 and 225 GeV, elastic φ photoproduction on hydrogen between 35 and 165 GeV and on deuterium between 45 and 85 GeV, elastic photoproduction on deuterium of an enhancement at 1.72 GeV/c2 decaying into K+K−, and elastic and inelastic photoproduction on deuterium of pp¯ pairs.
We report a measurement of the p p total cross section at √ s =1.8 TeV using a luminosity-independent method. Our result is σ T =72.1±3.3 mb ; we also derive the total elastic cross section σ el =16.6±1.6 mb. A value is obtained for the total single diffraction cross section of 11.7±2.3 mb.
