We present the first model-independent measurement of the helicity of $W$ bosons produced in top quark decays, based on a 1 fb$^{-1}$ sample of candidate $t\bar{t}$ events in the dilepton and lepton plus jets channels collected by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron $p\bar{p}$ Collider. We reconstruct the angle $\theta^*$ between the momenta of the down-type fermion and the top quark in the $W$ boson rest frame for each top quark decay. A fit of the resulting \costheta distribution finds that the fraction of longitudinal $W$ bosons $f_0 = 0.425 \pm 0.166 \hbox{(stat.)} \pm 0.102 \hbox{(syst.)}$ and the fraction of right-handed $W$ bosons $f_+ = 0.119 \pm 0.090 \hbox{(stat.)} \pm 0.053 \hbox{(syst.)}$, which is consistent at the 30% C.L. with the standard model.

Inspire Record 1372730 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.72989

A comparison of the differential cross sections for the processes Z/γ$^{*}$ + jets and photon (γ)+jets is presented. The measurements are based on data collected with the CMS detector at $ \sqrt{s}=8 $ TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb$^{−1}$. The differential cross sections and their ratios are presented as functions of p$_{T}$. The measurements are also shown as functions of the jet multiplicity. Differential cross sections are obtained as functions of the ratio of the Z/γ$^{*}$ p$_{T}$ to the sum of all jet transverse momenta and of the ratio of the Z/γ$^{*}$ p$_{T}$ to the leading jet transverse momentum. The data are corrected for detector effects and are compared to simulations based on several QCD calculations.

Phys.Lett. B753 (2016) 341-362, 2016.
Inspire Record 1382587 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.73712

A search is described for a Higgs boson decaying into two photons, one of which has an internal conversion to a muon or an electron pair ( ℓℓγ ). The analysis is performed using proton–proton collision data recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 fb −1 . The events selected have an opposite-sign muon or electron pair and a high transverse momentum photon. No excess above background has been found in the three-body invariant mass range 120<mℓℓγ<150 GeV , and limits have been derived for the Higgs boson production cross section times branching fraction for the decay H→γ⁎γ→ℓℓγ , where the dilepton invariant mass is less than 20 GeV. For a Higgs boson with mH=125 GeV , a 95% confidence level (CL) exclusion observed (expected) limit is 6.7 ( 5.9−1.8+2.8 ) times the standard model prediction. Additionally, an upper limit at 95% CL on the branching fraction of H→(J/ψ)γ for the 125 GeV Higgs boson is set at 1.5×10−3 .

JHEP, 2018.
Inspire Record 1711625 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.88043

Measurements of the differential cross section for the Drell-Yan process, based on proton-proton collision data at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, collected by the CMS experiment, are presented. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 2.8 (2.3) fb$^{-1}$ in the dimuon (dielectron) channel. The total and fiducial cross section measurements are presented as a function of dilepton invariant mass in the range 15 to 3000 GeV, and compared with the perturbative predictions of the standard model. The measured differential cross sections are in good agreement with the theoretical calculations.

Measurements of differential and double-differential Drell-Yan cross sections in proton-proton collisions at 8 TeV

Inspire Record 1332509 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.69869

Measurements of the differential and double-differential Drell–Yan cross sections in the dielectron and dimuon channels are presented. They are based on proton–proton collision data at $\sqrt{s} = 8\,\text {TeV} $ recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 $\,\text {fb}^{-1}$ . The measured inclusive cross section in the $\mathrm{Z}$ peak region (60–120 $\,\text {GeV}$ ), obtained from the combination of the dielectron and dimuon channels, is $1138 \pm 8\,\text {(exp)} \pm 25\,\text {(theo)} \pm 30\,\text {(lumi)} \text {\,pb} $ , where the statistical uncertainty is negligible. The differential cross section $\mathrm{d}\sigma /\mathrm{d}{}m$ in the dilepton mass range 15–2000 $\,\text {GeV}$ is measured and corrected to the full phase space. The double-differential cross section $\mathrm{d}^2\sigma /\mathrm{d}{}m\,\mathrm{d}|y |$ is also measured over the mass range 20 to 1500 $\,\text {GeV}$ and absolute dilepton rapidity from 0 to 2.4. In addition, the ratios of the normalized differential cross sections measured at $\sqrt{s} = 7$ and 8 $\,\text {TeV}$ are presented. These measurements are compared to the predictions of perturbative QCD at next-to-leading and next-to-next-to-leading (NNLO) orders using various sets of parton distribution functions (PDFs). The results agree with the NNLO theoretical predictions computed with fewz 3.1 using the CT10 NNLO and NNPDF2.1 NNLO PDFs. The measured double-differential cross section and ratio of normalized differential cross sections are sufficiently precise to constrain the proton PDFs.

Observation of Z decays to four leptons with the CMS detector at the LHC

JHEP 1212 (2012) 034, 2012.
Inspire Record 1190671 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.65757

The first observation of the Z boson decaying to four leptons in proton-proton collisions is presented. The analyzed data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5.02 inverse femtobarns at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV collected by the CMS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. A pronounced resonance peak, with a statistical significance of 9.7 sigma, is observed in the distribution of the invariant mass of four leptons (electrons and/or muons) with mass and width consistent with expectations for Z boson decays. The branching fraction and cross section reported here are defined by phase space restrictions on the leptons, namely, 80 < m[4l] < 100 GeV, where m[4l] is the invariant mass of the four leptons, and m[ll] > 4 GeV for all pairs of leptons, where m[ll] is the two-lepton invariant mass. The measured branching fraction is B(Z to 4l) = (4.2 /+0.9/-0.8 (stat.) +/- 0.2 (syst.)) 10E-6 and agrees with the standard model prediction of 4.45 10E-6. The measured cross section times branching fraction is sigma(pp to Z) B(Z to 4 l) = 112 +23/-20 (stat.) +7/-5 (syst.) +3/-2 (lumi.) fb, also consistent with the standard model prediction of 120 fb. The four-lepton mass peak arising from Z to 4 l decays provides a calibration channel for the Higgs boson search in the H to ZZ to 4 l decay mode.

The Standard Model predictions for $W\gamma$ and $Z\gamma$ production are tested using an integrated luminosity of 200 pb$^{-1}$ of \ppbar collision data collected at the Collider Detector at Fermilab. The cross sections are measured selecting leptonic decays of the $W$ and $Z$ bosons, and photons with transverse energy $E_T>7$ GeV that are well separated from leptons. The production cross sections and kinematic distributions for the $W\gamma$ and $Z\gamma$ are compared to SM predictions.

Measurements of the differential and double-differential Drell-Yan cross sections are presented using an integrated luminosity of 4.5(4.8) inverse femtobarns in the dimuon (dielectron) channel of proton-proton collision data recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC at $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV. The measured inclusive cross section in the Z-peak region (60-120 GeV) is $\sigma(\ell \ell)$ = 986.4 +/- 0.6 (stat.) +/- 5.9 (exp. syst.) +/- 21.7 (th. syst.) +/- 21.7 (lum.) pb for the combination of the dimuon and dielectron channels. Differential cross sections $d\sigma/dm$ for the dimuon, dielectron, and combined channels are measured in the mass range 15 to 1500 GeV and corrected to the full phase space. Results are also presented for the measurement of the double-differential cross section $d^2\sigma/dm d |y|$ in the dimuon channel over the mass range 20 to 1500 GeV and absolute dimuon rapidity from 0 to 2.4. These measurements are compared to the predictions of perturbative QCD calculations at next-to-leading and next-to-next-to-leading orders using various sets of parton distribution functions.
