Data from e + e − annihilations at 29 GeV have been used to measure the production cross section and fragmentation function of η mesons. The signal is observed in the η → γγ decay channel. The fragmentation for p η >1.5 GeV/ c agrees well with the prediction of the Lund model, whereas the prediction of the Webber model lies above the data. The mean multiplicity is measured to be 〈 n η 〉=0.58±0.10 η mesons per hadronic event, of which 0.51 represents the direct production of η and η ′ mesons in the fragmentation chain.

Vector mesons produced in the reaction e + e − →V+X at √ s =29 GeV were isolated by observing D ∗ mesons through the D ∗+ → D 0 π + decay. The D 0 decay modes used are D 0 →K3 π , K π , K π , and K π ( π 0 ). The data, which correspond to an integrated luminosity of 300 pb −1 , were collected by the High Resolution Spectrometer at PEP. Spin density matrix elements for the D ∗ meson are measured as a function of the energy sharing variable Z D ∗ . There is no evidence for alignment of D ∗ mesons produced in e + e − annihilation at our energy.

Neutral D ∗ meson production in e + e − annihilation at √ s =29 GeV has been studied using the high resolution spectrometer. The decay of D ∗0 into D 0 γ, where the D 0 decays into K −π + , has been observed. The production cross section in units of the point cross section is 0.63±0.22 for fractional energy Z ⩾0.5. The fragmentation function is compared with that of the D ∗+ meson measured in the same experiment.

The ratio of differential cross sections for the reactions e + e − → γγ and e + e − → e + e − is measured at s = 29 GeV in the central polar angle region, |cos θ | < 0.55, and compared to the same ratio calculated by QED to order α 3 . The ratio of these ratios, integrated over this angular region, is 1.007±0.009±0.008, demonstrating excellent agreement between theory and experiment. The 95% confidence limits on the QED cut-off parameters for the γγ final state are Λ + > 59 GeV and Λ - > 59 GeV.

A search is presented for lepton-flavor violating decays of the Higgs boson to $\mu\tau$ and e$\tau$. The data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb$^{-1}$ collected at the LHC in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. No significant excess has been found, and the results are interpreted in terms of upper limits on lepton-flavor violating branching fractions of the Higgs boson. The observed (expected) upper limits on the branching fractions are, respectively, $\mathcal{B}($H $\to\mu\tau)$$\lt$ 0.15 (0.15)% and $\mathcal{B}($H$\to$e$\tau)$ $\lt$ 0.22 (0.16)% at 95% confidence level.

The production of D * and D mesons has been studied in e + e − annihilations at √s = 29GeV. The data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 300 pb −1 , were obtained using the HRS detector at PEP. The cross section is measured to be R (D 0 + D + ) = 2.40±0.35 and we determine the electroweak asymmetry to be −9.9 ± 2.7%, which corresponds to an axial vector coupling constant product g e g c = 0.26 ± 0.07.

This paper reports measurements of the differential cross sections for the reactions e+e−→e+e− (Bhabha scattering) and e+e−→γγ (γ-pair production). The reactions are studied at a center-of-mass energy of 29 GeV and in the polar-angular region ‖costheta‖<0.55. A direct cross-section comparison between these two reactions provides a sensitive test of the predictions of quantum electrodynamics (QED) to order α3. When the ratio of γ-pair to Bhabha experimental cross sections, integrated over ‖costheta‖<0.55, is divided by the same ratio predicted from α3 QED theory, the result is 1.007±0.009±0.008. The 95%-confidence limits on the QED-cutoff parameters are Λ+>154 GeV and Λ−>220 GeV for Bhabha scattering, and Λ+>59 GeV and Λ−>59 GeV for γ-pair production.

The ratios of vector meson to pseudoscalar meson production for (u,d), s and c quark are compared to predictions of the Lund model.

Results are reported on a high statistics study of Bhabha scattering at 29 GeV in the polar angle region, |cos θ | < 0.55. The data are consistent with the standard model, and measure vector and axial-vector coupling constants of g v 2 = 0.03 ± 0.09 and g a 2 = 0.46±0.14. Limits on the QED-cutoff parameters are Λ + > 154 GeV and Λ - > 220 GeV. Lower limits on scale parameters of composite models are in the range 0.9–2.8 TeV. The partial width of a hypothetical spin-zero boson decaying to e + e − has an upper limit which varies from 6 to 57 MeV corresponding to a boson mass in the range 45–80 GeV/ c 2 .

This paper presents measurements of the inclusive production cross sections of Λ baryons in e+e− annihilations at s=29 GeV. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 256 pb−1 collected with the High-Resolution Spectrometer at the SLAC storage ring PEP. The data are well described with use of a strange-diquark suppression parameter, (usud)(sd), of 0.89 ± 0.10−0.16+0.56, and the measured Λc→Λ+X branching ratio of (23 ± 10)%.
