The asymmetry parameter A in π−p elastic scattering at incident pion laboratory kinetic energies Tπ of 98, 238, and 2922 MeV and in π−p charge-exchange scattering π−p→π0n at Tπ=238, 292, and 310 MeV have been measured over a wide range of scattering angles (typically from about 60° to 130° c.m.) with a polarized proton target. The data have been used in an energy-independent phase-shift analysis to improve the precision of the pion-nucleon phase shifts, to set new limits on violation of isospin conservation in the pion-nucleon S wave, and to confirm significant charge dependence in the P32 wave.

Radiation capture of π − on hydrogen has been measured in the momentum range from p π − = 210 MeV/ c to p π − = 385 MeV/ c and for c.m. angles between 30° and 120°, covering the Δ (1232) resonance. The unambiguous separation of the events from the charge exchange background is based on precise neutron time-of-flight measurements. Detector efficiencies were carefully determined in separate experiments. The experimental results are in good agreement with those of the inverse reaction and with most recent multipole analyses. An upper limit of ±2% can be set on the contribution of the isotensor term to the transition amplitude. A time reversal violating phase, when added to the resonant M 1+ 3 amplitude in the Donnachie-Shaw model, is found to be consistent with zero.
This results was extracted from the cross sections for the inverse reactionPI- P --> GAMMA N via detailed balance by applying relation: D(SIG(GAMMA))/D(OM EGA)=D(SIG(PI-))/D(OMEGA)*P(PI)**2/2/P(GAMMA)**2.

First measurements of the e + e − → π + π − K + K − cross section have been performed by the DM1 on DCI in the total energy range 1.4–2.18 GeV. π + π − K + K − production is dominated by K ∗ Kπ dynamics. The cross section is rather large around 1.9 GeV. Comparison with K 0 S inclusive production shows an isospin interference. Upper limits on φππ production are compatible with the OZI rule.

New measurements of thee + e − → π + π − π + π − cross section have been performed by the magnetic detector DM1 at DCI (ORSAY) in the 1.4−2.18 GeV total energy range with statistics of 11000 events. Assuming the4 π ± production is dominated by the ϱ′(1.6) we determine its parameters: M = 1.57 ± 0.02 (stat.) −0.00 +0.06 (syst.) GeV,Γ = 0.51 ± 0.04 (stat.) −0.01 +0.04 (syst.)GeV,Γ ρ ′ee B ϱ′→ ρ 0 π + π − = 2.67 ± 0.19 (stat.) −0.36 +0.27 (syst.)keV.

Polarization distributions and differential cross section data for elastic scattering of negative pions on protons between 865 and 2732 MeV/ c are presented. They are compared with published phase-shift analyses.

First measurements of the e + e − → K S 0 K ± π ∓ reaction in the 1.4–2.18 GeV energy range have been performed with the magnetic detector DM1 at the Orsay storage rings DCI. The cross section is rather large. The production is mainly K ∗0 K 0 which reveals an interference between isovector and isoscalar amplitudes. These results show again the existence of an isoscalar vector at 1.65 GeV shown to be a φ ′ meson.

The reactions e + e − → ρη , ρπ , φπ and φη have been studied with the magnetic detector DM1 at DCI in the total energy ranges between 1.4 and 2.18 GeV. The ρη signal is clearly seen. Upper limits for ρπ and φη channels as well as for the OZI forbidden φπ channel.

The total electromagnetic cross sections of g-rays in hydrogen and deuterium have been measured over the energy range 265–4215 MeV using a photon tagging system. From these measurements, the total pair production cross sections are obtained, and the results are found to be in good agreement with the predictions of Jost, Luttinger and Slotnick.
Axis error includes +- 1/1 contribution.
Total and differential cross sections for the reaction gamma p -> pi^o eta p have been measured with the Crystal Ball/TAPS detector using the tagged photon facility at the MAMI C accelerator in Mainz. In the energy range E_gamma=0.95-1.4 GeV the reaction is dominated by the excitation and sequential decay of the Delta(1700)D33 resonance. Angular distributions measured with high statistics allow us to determine the ratio of hadronic decay widths \Gamma_{\eta \Delta}/\Gamma_{\pi S11} and the ratio of the helicity amplitudes A_{3/2}/A_{1/2} for this resonance.
