A search for $W^\prime$ bosons in events with one lepton (electron or muon) and missing transverse momentum is presented. The search uses 3.2 fb$^{-1}$ of $pp$ collision data collected at $\sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC in 2015. The transverse mass distribution is examined and no significant excess of events above the level expected from Standard Model processes is observed. Upper limits on the $W^\prime$ boson cross-section times branching ratio to leptons are set as a function of the $W^\prime$ mass. Assuming a $W^\prime$ boson as predicted by the Sequential Standard Model, $W^\prime$ masses below 4.07 TeV are excluded at the 95% confidence level. This extends the limit set using LHC data at $\sqrt{s}=8$ TeV by around 800 GeV.

Multistrange baryon and antibaryon production is suggested to be a useful probe in the search for Quark-Gluon Plasma formation. We report the detection of an Ω − + Ω − signal in central S + W interactions at 200 A GeV/c and measure the ratio Ω − Ω − = 0.57±0.41 at central rapidity and p T >1.6 GeV/ c .
The relative production yields and transverse mass spectra for Λ, Λ , Ξ − and Ξ + hyperons in proton-tungsten interactions are presented and compared with the WA85 results from central sulphur-tungsten interactions. A study of the negative particle yield has also been undertaken and the ratio of Λ hyperons to negative particles has been calculated.
Final data on topological cross sections are presented. Inclusive single particle distributions for the reactionsK+p→ π±X at 32 GeV/c are discussed and compared with data at lower energies. Early scaling in the fragmentation regions is confirmed, while cross sections in th central region continue to rise with energy even faster than inpp interactions. Thex-andpT-dependence of the π+/π− ratio inK+p interactions is discussed and a comparison of reactionsK+p→ π±X andK−p→ π±X at 32 GeV/c is made in the context of constituent models. A search is presented for dark matter pair production in association with a W or Z boson in pp collisions representing 20.3 fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity at $\sqrt{s}$=8 TeV using data recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Events with a hadronic jet with the jet-mass consistent with a W or Z boson, and with large missing transverse momentum are analyzed. The data are consistent with the Standard Model expectations, and limits are set on the mass scale in effective field theories that describe the interaction of dark matter and Standard Model particles.

A search is presented for production of dark matter particles recoiling against a leptonically decaying Z boson in 20.3 fb$^{-1}$ of pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$=8 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Events with large missing transverse momentum and two oppositely-charged electrons or muons consistent with the decay of a Z boson are analyzed. No excess above the Standard Model prediction is observed. Limits are set on the mass scale of the contact interaction as a function of the dark matter particle mass using an effective field theory description of the interaction of dark matter with quarks or with Z bosons. Limits are also set on the coupling and mediator mass of a model in which the interaction is mediated by a scalar particle.

As part of a comprehensive study of uranium fragmentation at relativistic energies at the GSI projectile fragment separator, FRS, inclusive neutron-removal cross sections have been measured for severalxn channels at projectile energies of 600 and 950A MeV using targets of Al, Cu and Pb. The variation of the experimental cross sections with target nuclear charge is used to disentangle nuclear and electromagnetic contributions. The electromagnetic cross sections agree surprisingly well with a simple harmonic oscillator calculation of giant dipole resonances based on measured photonuclear cross sections and do not require an extra enhancement of the two-phonon giant dipole excitation as concluded from similar measurements with197Au.
Cross-sections are obtained for coherent interactions of π+ and K+-mesons with Al and Au nuclei at 250 GeV/c, leading to three, five and seven charged mesons. The total coherent cross-section is (4.3 ± 0.5)% of the inelastic cross-section for each of the four meson-nucleus interactions. In 85% of the coherent events, the charged meson production is accompanied by neutral mesons. Effective mass distributions are presented for coherently produced particles, including charged mesons and photons, carrying total measured energy of more than 85% of the initial energy. Charged particle and γ spectra are analysed. No charge asymmetry is observed within the coherently produced cluster.

A bubble-chamber study is presented of a 10 events/μb experiment using K − mesons of 4.25 GeV/ c incident momentum. Differential and total cross sections are determined for 7 different reactions: K − p → K 0 n ( la ), → π 0 Λ ( lb ), → ηΛ ( lc ), → η′Λ ( ld ), → π − Σ ( le ), → π + Σ − ( lf ), K + Ξ − ( lg ) . The experimental characteristics in d σ /d t of each reaction are described: (la) shows a levelling off at t = 0 (GeV/ c ) 2 , a break at t = −0.6 (GeV/ c ) 2 and no backward events, (lb) d σ /d t has a smooth behaviour and a measurable backward component with an indication of a dip at u = −0.2 (GeV/ c ) 2 , (1c) d σ /d t shows a dip in the region between t ≈ −0.2 and −0.4 (GeV/ c ) 2 , (ld) d σ /d t has a smooth behaviour; neither this reaction nor the preceding one shows a clear evidence for backward events, (le) d σ /d t has a break at t = −0.5 (GeV/ c ) 2 ; there is a significant cross section in the backward region; (lf) and (lg) show mainly backward production. The polarization of the hyperon is measured in the reactions (lb), (lc), (ld) and (le) in the forward production peak. The statistics do not allow the detection of a definite structure in the polarization but the sign and magnitude are determined. An interpretation of the results is given in terms of a dual Regge model, including the effects of absorption as elaborated recently by several authors.

A search is presented for photonic signatures motivated by generalised models of gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking. This search makes use of $20.3{\rm fb}^{-1}$ of proton-proton collision data at $\sqrt{s}=8$ TeV recorded by the ATLAS detector at the LHC, and explores models dominated by both strong and electroweak production of supersymmetric partner states. Four experimental signatures incorporating an isolated photon and significant missing transverse momentum are explored. These signatures include events with an additional photon, lepton, $b$-quark jet, or jet activity not associated with any specific underlying quark flavor. No significant excess of events is observed above the Standard Model prediction and model-dependent 95% confidence-level exclusion limits are set.

We report experimental results on the cross section for the reaction e + e − → hadrons as a function of the total c.m. energy in the range W = 1.42–3.09 GeV. The results, combined with those already existing below the charm threshold, clearly indicate a structure for R ( W ) = α ( e + e − → hadrons)/ α ( e + e − → μ + μ − ) in that energy region.

New experimental results are reported on diffractive dissociation of protons into (nπ + ) in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of s = 45 GeV . The data were obtained using the Split-Field-Magnet detector at the CERN Intersecting Storage Rings. We have searched for resonance contributions and found peaks at mass values of 1.5 GeV, 1.65 GeV, and 2.1 GeV. A dip in d σ d t is observed at low t and low mass; it is most pronounced for events with neutrons emitted at 90° in the Gottfried-Jackson frame. The correlation between mass and slope depends strongly on θ J . The cross section of the channel pp → pnπ + is 400 ± 110 μb at s = 45 GeV , giving an energy dependence of s −0.30±0.07 for isospin exchange zero in this channel.

Total and semi-inclusive ϱ 0 and φ cross sections, longitudinal and transverse momentum distributions, including 〈 P T versus x dependence are presented. No evidence for a sea-gull effect is observed. Comparison with quark models strongly suggests the possibility that a large fraction of the ϱ 0 and vector mesons are produced as fragmentation products of the incident particles. Study of uncorrelated π + π − pairs in the ϱ 0 mass range provides possible indirect evidence for the existence of diquarks in the proton.

Data are presented on inclusiveKs0 and Λ production inK+ and π+ collisions with Al and Au nuclei at 250 GeV/c. Results are given on total inclusive cross sections and theA dependence, as well as on distributions in Feynman-xF, rapidityy and transverse momentum. Ratios ofKS0 and of Λ to π+ production are presented. The data are compared with predictions of the quark-parton model FRITIOF.
We present results on J/ψ production in muon interactions with tin and carbon targets at incident muon energies of 200 and 280 GeV. The ratio of cross sections per nucleon for J/ψ production on tin and carbon, R (Sn/C), is studied as a function of p T 2 , z and x . We find an enhancement for coherent J/ψ production R coh (Sn/C) = 1.54 ± 0.07, a suppression for quasielastic production R qe (Sn/C) = 0.79 ± 0.06 and for inelastic production R in (Sn/C) = 1.13 ± 0.08. The inelastic cross section ratio can be interpreted within the Colour Singlet model as an enhancement of the gluon distribution in tin with respect to that in carbon. The dependence of the ratio on z and p T 2 can explain the discrepancy between the results obtained in previous experiments.
We present data on the production of the baryons Λ,\(\bar \Lambda \),p and of the baryon resonances Σ*+ (1385) and Δ++ (1232) inK+p and π+p interactions at 250 GeV/c. Results are given on total and semi-inclusive cross sections, Feynman-x spectra, transverse momentum distributions and Λ polarization. The data are compared with measurements at lower energies, with deep inclastic lepton nucleon data and with predictions of quark-parton models. The models underestimate Λ production in the central c.m. region, a feature also seen in recent heavy-ion data. This failure can be cured in JETSET 6.3 by adjustment of the di-quark break-up probability.

The measurement of different reactions of p d annihilation at rest in a gaseous target has been performed using the OBELIX spectrometer at LEAR (CERN). A strong deviation from the OZI-rule prediction was found from the measurement of the ratio R = φπ ωπ in two regions of proton momenta, P < 200 MeV/ c and P > 400 MeV/ c : R( φπ − ωπ − ) = (133 ± 26) × 10 −3 and (113 ± 30) × 10 −3 , respectively. These values are about 30 times greater than the theoretical prediction. For the first time the excitation of the †-resonance was observed among the final-state products of p d annihilation. The existence of a broad enhancement in the 4π invariant mass at m ≈ 1480 MeV, seen in previous experiments, was confirmed. A ≈ 100 MeV downward shift of the bump position, when the proton momentum increased up to P > 400 MeV/ c , was also observed, while the positions of ω, ϱ and f 2 (1270) did not change with the proton momentum. We report on a study of ρ0, ρ+, ω,\(\bar K^{*0} (892)\) andK*0 (892) inclusive production in π+p interactions at 250 GeV/c, for ρ+,\(\bar K^{*0} (892)\) for the first time in a π+p experiment. Results of the total cross section differenceΔσL in anp transmission experiment at 1.19, 2.49 and 3.65 GeV incident neutron beam kinetic energies are presented. Measurements were performed at the Synchrophasotron of the Laboratory of High Energies of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna. Results were obtained with a polarized beam of free quasi-monochromatic neutrons passing through the new Dubna frozen spin proton target. The beam and target polarizations were oriented longitudinally. The present results were obtained at the highest energies of free polarized neutrons that can be reached at present. They extend the energy range of existing results from PSI, LAMPF and Saclay measured between 0.066 and 1.10 GeV. The new results are compared withΔσL(pn) data determined as a difference betweenΔσL(pd) andΔσL(pp) ANL-ZGS measurements. The values ofΔσL for the isospin stateI=0 were deduced using knownpp data.

Quasi-elastic scattering with central dipion cluster production is studied in π+p andK+p interactions at 250 GeV/c. A partial-wave analysis of the low-mass ( π + π − p) system produced in the reaction K − p → K − ( π + π − p) at 4.2 GeV/ c incident momentum is performed in order to study the two ( π + π − p) enhancements around 1500 and 1700 MeV. It is found that the low-mass ( π + π − p) system can be described using the spin-parity states J P = 1 2 + , 3 2 − and 5 2 + only. In the 1500 MeV region contributions are observed from the 1 2 + wave decaying into pϵ and the 3 2 − wave decaying into Δ ++ π − ; in the 1700 MeV region contributions are found from the 1 2 + wave decaying into Δ ++ π − , the 3 2 − wave decaying into pϵ, and the 5 2 + wave decaying into pϵ.

An emulsion spectrometer has been built and tested with pion beams in a 0.7 T magnetic field. A momentum resolution, Δ P / P =13%±1%, has been obtained for 5 and 10 GeV /c particles.

Energy-integrated reaction cross sections have been measured at energies ranging from 38 to 80 MeV/nucleon for various exotic neutron-rich isotopes of Al, Si, P, S, Cl, Ar, K, Ca, Sc, and Ti stopping in Si. An experimental technique is employed where Si detectors are used for both particle identification and to serve as the target material. The reduced strong absorption radii r02 are deduced and compared with other experimental results. The radius dependence on the neutron number was studied and a trend of increasing reduced radius with neutron excess was found. This behavior is similar to that seen in lighter systems, although less pronounced than found there. The implications of this result on the conjectured existence of neutron halo or skin nuclei is discussed.
We report results of the first search for the pentaquark P_{{c bar}s} which is predicted to be a doublet of states: P^0_{{c bar}s}=({c bar} s u u d) and P^-_{{c bar}s}=({c bar} s d d u). A search was made for the decay P^0_{{c bar}s} --> phi,pi,p in data from Fermilab experiment E791, in which 500 GeV/c pi^- beam interacted with nuclear targets. We present upper limits at 90% confidence level for the ratio of cross section times branching fraction of this decay to that for the decay D_s --> phi,pi. The upper limits are 0.031 and 0.063 for M(P^0_{{c bar}s}) = 2.75 and 2.86 GeV/c^2, respectively, assuming a P^0_{{c bar}s} lifetime of 0.4 ps.
