The reaction π − p → ηφ has been studied at 1.8 GeV/ c incident pion momentum using the Bologna-CERN NBC set-up, in order to investigate the electromagnetic decay mode φ → ηγ . We observed (27 ± 6) events, yielding a branching ratio Γ(φ → ηγ) Γ(φ → total ) = (7.3 ± 1.9)% . The theoretical implications of this result are discussed.
ASSUMING THE TOTAL PHI CROSS SECTION IS 35 +- 5 MUB, THIS YIELDS THE BRANCHING RATIO OF (7.3 +- 1.9) PCT FOR PHI --> ETA GAMMA.
The total and differential p¯p charge-exchange cross sections were obtained at seven momenta in the range 480 to 728 MeV/c. The total cross sections are roughly consistent with other data. The momentum dependences of the Legendre coefficients a1a0, a2a0, and a3a0 of the differential cross sections do not agree well with the predictions of the Bryan-Phillips model, unlike the case of elastic scattering.
TWO SETS OF DATA ARE GIVEN. THIS FIRST IS THAT PREFERRED USING THE CROSS SECTIONS OF BIZZARI ET AL.

The gp-->etap reaction has been measured with the Crystal Ball and TAPS multiphoton spectrometers in the energy range from the production threshold of 707 MeV to 1.4 GeV (1.49 =< W >= 1.87 GeV). Bremsstrahlung photons produced by the 1.5-GeV electron beam of the Mainz Microtron MAMI-C and momentum analyzed by the Glasgow Tagging Spectrometer were used for the eta-meson production. Our accumulation of 3.8 x 10^6 gp-->etap-->3pi0p-->6gp events allows a detailed study of the reaction dynamics. The gp-->etap differential cross sections were determined for 120 energy bins and the full range of the production angles. Our data show a dip near W = 1680 MeV in the total cross section caused by a substantial dip in eta production at forward angles. The data are compared to predictions of previous SAID and MAID partial-wave analyses and to thelatest SAID and MAID fits that have included our data.
We have measured inclusive data on $K^+$-meson production in $pp$ collisions at COSY J\"ulich close to the hyperon production threshold and determined the hyperon-nucleon invariant mass spectra. The spectra were decomposed into three parts: $\Lambda p$, $\Sigma^0p$ and $\Sigma^+n$. The cross section for the $\Sigma^+n$ channel was found to be much smaller than a previous measurement in that excess energy region. The data together with previous results at higher energies are compatible with a phase space dependence.
pp interactions at 11 momenta in the range 0.9 to 2.0 GeV/ c have been studied. The elastic angular distributions, covering the c.m. angular range 22°–90°, agree in general with Hoshizaki's phase-shift analysis which shows the looping 1 D in and 3 F 3 amplitudes in the Argand diagram. About 80% of pn π + events come from the n Δ ++ state at all momenta above 1.2 GeV/ c . The behavior of the density matrix elements of the Δ ++ show no momentum or angular dependence. A large fraction of pp π 0 events also come from the p Δ + state at all momenta above 1.2 GeV/ c . The behavior of the Δ + density matrix elements is similar to that for the case of Δ ++ .

p p elastic total and differential cross sections were measured at 17 incident momenta in the range 374–680 MeV/ c . No prominent feature was seen in them to clearly indicate the existence of the S-meson. There is, however, a small enhancement at the S-meson mass, which is equivalent to the elastic total cross section of 4.6 ± 2.1 mb. The behavior of the Legendre expansion coefficients of the angular distributions with incident momentum agrees well the predictions of the OBE model of Bryan and Phillips.

We report the beam energy (\sqrt s_{NN} = 7.7 - 200 GeV) and collision centrality dependence of the mean (M), standard deviation (\sigma), skewness (S), and kurtosis (\kappa) of the net-proton multiplicity distributions in Au+Au collisions. The measurements are carried out by the STAR experiment at midrapidity (|y| < 0.5) and within the transverse momentum range 0.4 < pT < 0.8 GeV/c in the first phase of the Beam Energy Scan program at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. These measurements are important for understanding the Quantum Chromodynamic (QCD) phase diagram. The products of the moments, S\sigma and \kappa\sigma^{2}, are sensitive to the correlation length of the hot and dense medium created in the collisions and are related to the ratios of baryon number susceptibilities of corresponding orders. The products of moments are found to have values significantly below the Skellam expectation and close to expectations based on independent proton and anti-proton production. The measurements are compared to a transport model calculation to understand the effect of acceptance and baryon number conservation, and also to a hadron resonance gas model.

Quark interactions with topological gluon configurations can induce chirality imbalance and local parity violation in quantum chromodynamics. This can lead to electric charge separation along the strong magnetic field in relativistic heavy-ion collisions -- the chiral magnetic effect (CME). We report measurements by the STAR collaboration of a CME-sensitive observable in $p$+Au and $d$+Au collisions at 200 GeV, where the CME is not expected, using charge-dependent pair correlations relative to a third particle. We observe strong charge-dependent correlations similar to those measured in heavy-ion collisions. This bears important implications for the interpretation of the heavy-ion data.

The STAR Collaboration reports measurements of back-to-back azimuthal correlations of di-$\pi^0$s produced at forward pseudorapidities ($2.6<\eta<4.0$) in $p$+$p$, $p+$Al, and $p+$Au collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 200 GeV. We observe a clear suppression of the correlated yields of back-to-back $\pi^0$ pairs in $p+$Al and $p+$Au collisions compared to the $p$+$p$ data. The observed suppression of back-to-back pairs as a function of transverse momentum suggests nonlinear gluon dynamics arising at high parton densities. The larger suppression found in $p+$Au relative to $p+$Al collisions exhibits a dependence of the saturation scale, $Q_s^2$, on the mass number, $A$. A linear scaling of the suppression with $A^{1/3}$ is observed with a slope of $-0.09$$\pm$$0.01$.

A study is reported of the same- and opposite-sign charge-dependent azimuthal correlations with respect to the event plane in Au+Au collisions at 200 GeV. The charge multiplicity asymmetries between the up/down and left/right hemispheres relative to the event plane are utilized. The contributions from statistical fluctuations and detector effects were subtracted from the (co-)variance of the observed charge multiplicity asymmetries. In the mid- to most-central collisions, the same- (opposite-) sign pairs are preferentially emitted in back-to-back (aligned on the same-side) directions. The charge separation across the event plane, measured by the difference, $\Delta$, between the like- and unlike-sign up/down $-$ left/right correlations, is largest near the event plane. The difference is found to be proportional to the event-by-event final-state particle ellipticity (via the observed second-order harmonic $v^{\rm obs}_{2}$), where $\Delta=(1.3\pm1.4({\rm stat})^{+4.0}_{-1.0}({\rm syst}))\times10^{-5}+(3.2\pm0.2({\rm stat})^{+0.4}_{-0.3}({\rm syst}))\times10^{-3}v^{\rm obs}_{2}$ for 20-40% Au+Au collisions. The implications for the proposed chiral magnetic effect are discussed.
Centrality dependences of the charge asymmetry dynamical correlations, $\delta\langle A^{2}\rangle$, and the positive and negative charge asymmetry correlations, $\delta\langle A_{+}A_{-}\rangle$. The asymmetries are calculated between hemispheres separated by the event plane (UD) and between those separated by the plane perpendicular to the event plane (LR). The asymmetry correlations are multiplied by the number of participants $N_{part}$. The upper (lower) shaded band shows half of the systematic uncertainty in the $\delta\langle A_{+}A_{-}\rangle$ ($\delta\langle A^{2}\rangle$); the larger of the UD\ and LR\ systematic uncertainties is drawn. The stars and triangles depict the $d$+Au results.
The correlation differences $\Delta\langle A^{2}\rangle=\delta\langle A^{2}_{ UD}\rangle-\delta\langle A^{2}_{ LR}\rangle$ and $\Delta\langle A_{+}A_{-}\rangle=\delta\langle A_{+}A_{-}\rangle_{ UD}-\delta\langle A_{+}A_{-}\rangle_{ LR}$, scaled by the number of participants $N_{part}$, as a function of $N_{part}$. The error bars are statistical, and the systematic uncertainties are shown in the shaded bands (upper band for $\Delta\langle A_{+}A_{-}\rangle$ and lower band for $\Delta\langle A^{2}\rangle$). Also shown as the lines are the linear-extrapolated values of $\Delta\langle A^{2}\rangle$ and $\Delta\langle A_{+}A_{-}\rangle$ corresponding to a perfect event-plane resolution. The star and triangle depict the $d$+Au results.
The $p_{T}$ dependence of the charge asymmetry dynamical correlations, $\delta\langle A^{2}\rangle$, and the positive and negative charge asymmetry correlations, $\delta\langle A_{+}A_{-}\rangle$. The data are from 20-40% central Au+Au collisions. The asymmetries are calculated between hemispheres separated by the event plane (UD) and between those separated by the plane perpendicular to the event plane (LR).
