Interaction cross sections (σI) for all known Li isotopes (Li6-Li11) and Be7, Be9, and Be10 on targets Be, C, and Al have been measured at 790 MeV/nucleon. Root mean square radii of these isotopes as well as He isotopes have been deduced from the σI by a Glauber-type calculation. Appreciable differences of radii among isobars (He6-Li6, He8-Li8, and Li9-Be9) have been observed for the first time. The nucleus Li11 showed a remarkably large radius suggesting a large deformation or a long tail in the matter distribution.

Secondary beams of 3 He, 4 He, 6 He, and 8 He were produced through the projectile fragmentation of an 800 MeV/nucleon 11 B primary beam. Interaction cross sections ( σ I ) of all He isotopes of 790 MeV/nucleon on Be, C, and Al targets were measured by a transmission-type experiment. The interaction nuclear radii of He isotopes R I ( He ) = ( σ I π ) 1 2 − R I ( T ) where R I ( T ) is the radius of the target nucleus, have been deduced to be R I ( 3 He ) = 1.59 ± 0.06 fm , R I ( 4 He ) = 1.40 ± 0.05 fm , R I ( 6 He ) = 2.21 ± 0.06 fm , and R I ( 8 He ) = 2.52 ± 0.06 fm .

Negative pion spectra emitted in the reactions of 775 MeV/nucleon La139+12C and La139+139La reactions have been measured in coincidence with the projectile fragments using the HISS spectrometer at the Bevalac. Prominent peaks near the beam velocity were observed in the pion spectra. Position and widths of the peaks were studied as a function of the ‘‘sum charge’’ of projectile fragments which is a good measure of impact parameter; the smaller the ‘‘sum charge,’’ the smaller the impact parameter. The peak position down shifts with the smaller ‘‘sum charge.’’ The pion peak is wider in the transverse than in the longitudinal direction, possibly mirroring the velocity dispersions of projectile fragments in the early stage of reactions.

We present the first measurements of femtoscopic correlations between the K$^0_{\rm S}$ and K$^{\rm \pm}$ particles in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV measured by the ALICE experiment. The observed femtoscopic correlations are consistent with final-state interactions proceeding solely via the $a_0(980)$ resonance. The extracted kaon source radius and correlation strength parameters for K$^0_{\rm S}$K$^{\rm -}$ are found to be equal within the experimental uncertainties to those for K$^0_{\rm S}$K$^{\rm +}$. Results of the present study are compared with those from identical-kaon femtoscopic studies also performed with pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}=7$ TeV by ALICE and with a K$^0_{\rm S}$K$^{\rm \pm}$ measurement in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=2.76$ TeV. Combined with the Pb-Pb results, our pp analysis is found to be compatible with the interpretation of the $a_0(980)$ having a tetraquark structure instead of that of a diquark.

This article presents the first measurement of the interaction between charm hadrons and nucleons. The two-particle momentum correlations of $\mathrm{pD^-}$ and $\mathrm{\overline{p}D}^+$ pairs are measured by the ALICE Collaboration in high-multiplicity pp collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 13~\mathrm{TeV}$. The data are compatible with the Coulomb-only interaction hypothesis within (1.1-1.5)$\sigma$. The level of agreement slightly improves if an attractive nucleon(N)$\overline{\mathrm{D}}$ strong interaction is considered, in contrast to most model predictions which suggest an overall repulsive interaction. This measurement allows for the first time an estimation of the 68% confidence level interval for the isospin $\mathrm{I}=0$ inverse scattering length of the $\mathrm{N\overline{D}}$ state ${f_{0,~\mathrm{I}=0}^{-1} \in [-0.4,0.9]~\mathrm{fm^{-1}}}$, assuming negligible interaction for the isospin $\mathrm{I}=1$ channel.
$1\sigma$ confidence interval for the $\mathrm{N\overline{D}}$ inverse scattering length for the isospin $\mathrm{I}=0$ channel, $f_{0,~\mathrm{I}=0}^{-1}$, as a function of the effective source radius $R_\mathrm{eff}$.
Best fit for the $\mathrm{N\overline{D}}$ inverse scattering length for the isospin $\mathrm{I}=0$ channel, $f_{0,~\mathrm{I}=0}^{-1}$, as a function of the effective source radius $R_\mathrm{eff}$.
Polarized and unpolarized proton-proton elastic scattering is investigated with the EDDA-experiment at the Cooler Synchrotron COSY at Jülich to significantly improve the world data base in the beam energy range 500–2500 MeV. Measurements during beam acceleration with thin internal targets and a large acceptance detector provide excitation functions over a broad angular and energy range with unprecedented internal consistency. Data taking with an unpolarized CH2 fiber target and an unpolarized beam have been completed and the derived differential cross sections are presented and compared to a recent phase shift analysis. With a polarized atomic beam target newly installed in COSY and a polarized COSY beam—currently under development—the measurements will be extended to analyzing powers and spin correlation parameters.

In quantum scattering processes between two particles, aspects characterizing the strong and Coulomb forces can be observed in kinematic distributions of the particle pairs. The sensitivity to the interaction potential reaches a maximum at low relative momentum and vanishing distance between the two particles. Ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions at the LHC provide an abundant source of many hadron species and can be employed as a measurement method of scattering parameters that is complementary to scattering experiments. This study confirms that momentum correlations of particles produced in Pb-Pb collisions at the LHC provide an accurate measurement of kaon-proton scattering parameters at low relative momentum, allowing precise access to the $ {K}^{-} p\rightarrow {K}^{-} p$ process. This work also validates the femtoscopic measurement in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions as an alternative to scattering experiments and a complementary tool to the study of exotic atoms with comparable precision. In this work, the first femtoscopic measurement of momentum correlations of ${K}^{-} p\ ({K}^{+}\overline{p})$ and ${K}^{+}p ({K}^{-}\overline{p})$ pairs in Pb-Pb collisions at centre-of-mass energy per nucleon pair of $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} = 5.02$ TeV registered by the ALICE experiment is reported. The components of the ${K}^{-} p$ complex scattering length are extracted and found to be $\Re f_0=-0.91\pm~{0.03}$(stat)$^{+0.17}_{-0.03}$(syst) and $\Im f_0 = 0.92\pm~{0.05}$(stat)$^{+0.12}_{-0.33}$(syst). The results are compared with chiral effective field theory predictions as well as with existing data from dedicated scattering and exotic kaonic atom experiments.
The differential cross sections for neutron-proton elastic charge-exchange scattering have been measured with a two-arm technique for incident neutron momenta between 22 and 65 GeV/ c and for values of the momentum transfer squared between 0.002 and 0.8 (GeV/ c ) 2 . The sharp forward peak observed previously at lower energies is also present at momenta up to 65 GeV/ c ; however the s dependence of the cross section is slowing down.

Two-particle correlation functions were measured for $\rm p\overline{p}$, $\rm p\overline{\Lambda}$, $\rm \overline{p}\Lambda$, and $\Lambda\overline{\Lambda}$ pairs in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=2.76$ TeV and $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}=5.02$ TeV recorded by the ALICE detector. From a simultaneous fit to all obtained correlation functions, real and imaginary components of the scattering lengths, as well as the effective ranges, were extracted for combined $\rm p\overline{\Lambda}$ and $\rm \overline{p}\Lambda$ pairs and, for the first time, for $\Lambda\overline{\Lambda}$ pairs. Effective averaged scattering parameters for heavier baryon-antibaryon pairs, not measured directly, are also provided. The results reveal similarly strong interaction between measured baryon-antibaryon pairs, suggesting that they all annihilate in the same manner at the same pair relative momentum $k^{*}$. Moreover, the reported significant non-zero imaginary part and negative real part of the scattering length provide motivation for future baryon-antibaryon bound state searches.
