The slope b(s) of the forward diffraction peak of p−p elastic scattering has been measured in the momentum-transfer-squared range 0.005≲|t|≲0.09 (GeV/c)2 and at incident proton energies from 8 to 400 GeV. We find that b(s) increases with s, and in the interval 100≲s≲750 (GeV)2 it can be fitted by the form b(s)=b0+2α′lns with b0=8.23±0.27, α′=0.278±0.024 (GeV/c)−2.
MOMENTUM BINS ARE APPROX 20 GEV WIDE CENTRED AT THE GIVEN PLAB EXCEPT FOR THE 9 AND 12 GEV POINTS WHICH HAVE WIDTHS OF APPROX 1 AND 4 GEV RESPECTIVELY.
Results of a high-statistics study of elastic scattering and meson resonances produced by π−p interactions at 8 GeV/c are presented. Large statistics and small systematic errors permit examination of the complete kinematic region. Total differential cross sections are given for ρ0,−, f0, g0,−, Δ±, Δ0, and N* resonances. Spin-density matrix elements and Legendre-polynomial moments are given for ρ, f, and Δ resonances. The results for ρ0 and f0 resonances are compared with the predictions of a Regge-pole-exchange model. Properties of the above resonances are compared and discussed. In particular, we present evidence that the ρ0 and f0 production mechanisms are similar. The similarity of the g0 t distribution to that of the ρ0 and f0 suggests a common production mechanism for all three resonances.

A quasi-two-body model based on one-particle exchange and diffraction dissociation has been fitted to data from π−p interactions at 3.9 and 11.9 GeV/c in which a nucleon and 3-6 pions are present in the final state. It is used to estimate partial cross sections for the contributing interaction mechanisms and the dominant resonances which are produced at these energies. The energy dependence of the cross sections is examined and found to be consistent with expected behavior, and reactions are compared and found to agree with simple factorization.

The reaction K − n → K − π + π − n has been studied in the SLAC 82″ liquid deuterium bubble chamber with a beam momentum of 12 GeV/ c . Although the kinematic fit for this final state has only one constraint, nonetheless a reasonably pure sample has been obtained. The cross section for the reaction is 1.02 ± 0.10 mb. The process K − n → K ∗0 890 Δ − is observed with cross section 36 ± 9 μ b and t -slope of 10 ± 2 (GeV/ c ) −2 . A kaon diffraction dissociation sample has been obtained, although the Q-signal is not so strong as in experiments with proton targets. Neutron dissociation into n π + π − is also observed with similar properties to those of proton dissociation into p π + π − , but with a broader t -distribution.
BEAM AND TARGET DIFFRACTION DISSOCIATION DATA ARE REPORTED.
A partial-wave analysis has been performed on the (K − π − π + ) system produced in the reaction K − p → K − π − π + p at 10 and 16 GeV/ c . In the Q mass region it is found that the two dominant states, K ∗ π and Kπ, both in 1 + S wave, are produced with different polarisations, helicity being approximately conserved in the t -channel for K ∗ π and in the s -channel for Kπ. This is in contradiction with the assumption that the amplitude can be factorised into “production” and “decay” parts, and hence that the two amplitudes are fully coherent. The phase variation of the two states do not indicate simple resonance behaviour. It is concluded that the Q-mass enhancement is composite.

The polarization parameters of the pn elastic scattering were measured at beam momenta between 1.30 and 1.82 GeV/c. The results are discussed in comparison with the partial-wave analysis of Hashimoto and Hoshizaki.

We present a total of 427 np analyzing power data points in a large angular interval at 12 energies between 0.312 and 1.10 GeV. The SATURNE II polarized beam of free monochromatic neutrons was scattered either on the Saclay frozen-spin polarized proton target or on CH 2 and C targets. Present results are compared with existing elastic and quasieleastic data.
