A MEASUREMENT OF THE K0(L) p ELASTIC CROSS-SECTION FOR 3 less than or equal to p less than or equal to 13-GeV/c AND .1 less than or equal to |t| less than or equal to 1.3-GeV**2

Inspire Record 7663 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.34662

The cross section for the K L 0 p elastic scattering has been measured for the first time. The incident momentum and momentum transfer ranges are 3 ⩽ p ⩽ 13 GeV/ c , 0.1 ⩽ | t | ⩽ 1.3 GeV 2 . The results are compared to those of other experiments related to ours by isotopic spin conservation, finding agreement with some and discrepancies with others. The differential cross sections have been parametrized in the form A e bt . The coefficients show little or no dependence on energy, with A ≅ 9.8 mb · GeV −2 and b ≅ 4.7 GeV −2 . The effective linear trajectory has been determined and gives α 0 = 0.95 ± 0.15, α ′ = −0.35 ± 0.48 GeV −2 , in good agreement with dominance by pomeron exchange.

A Measurement of the Energy Dependence of Elastic $\pi p$ and $p p$ Scattering at Large Angles

Phys.Rev.Lett. 40 (1978) 425, 1978.
Inspire Record 6233 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.3359

We have measured π±p and pp elastic differential cross sections in the range |cosθc.m.|<0.35 for incident momenta from 2 to 9.7 GeV/c for π−p and pp and from 2 to 6.3 GeV/c for π+p. We find that the fixed-c.m.-angle πp differential cross sections cannot be described as simple functions of s. The data are compared to the energy and angular dependence predicted by the constituent model of Gunion, Brodsky, and Blankenbecler.

A study of Sigma+ p elastic scattering in the region of 300-MeV/c <= p(Sigma) <= 600-MeV/c with a scintillating fiber target.

Σ + p elastic scattering has been studied using a scintillating fiber block (SCIFI) which served as a target for the production of Σ + hyperons as well as for subsequent Σ + scattering on hydrogen. A new technique for the analysis of the hyperon-nucleon scattering in the SCIFI has been developed and established. In this paper, Σ + p elastic scattering events have been identified in the Σ + momentum range of 300–600 MeV/ c , and differential cross sections have been obtained at two angles. The results are compared with various theoretical baryon-baryon interaction models.

Antiproton-Proton Cross Sections at 1.0, 1.25, and 2.0 Bev

Inspire Record 46744 DOI 10.17182/hepdata.813

The interaction of 1.0-, 1.25-, and 2.0-Bev antiprotons with protons has been studied with the aid of a 4π solid-angle scintillation-counter detector system. The measured total cross sections at the above energies are 100, 89, and 80 mb, respectively. At each energy, the charge-exchange cross section is approximately 5 mb. The total elastic cross sections are 33, 28, and 25 mb, respectively, at the three energies. The angular distribution of elastic scattering has been fitted with a simple optical-model calculation.

The reactions π − p → p π − and π − p → p ϱ − ( ϱ − → π − π 0 ) at 10 GeV/ c with the proton in the forward direction in the c.m.s. are discussed on the basis of 953 elastic scattering events and 2240 events of the reaction π − p → p π − π 0 . The total backward cross sections are 0.52±0.10 and 1.52±0.28 μ b, respectively. In both cases the production mechanism is compatible with the dominance of the baryonic Δ δ Regge trajectory exchange. The ϱ − decay angular distributions are studied in the u -channel helicity frame and the spin density matrix elements are presented as functions of u .

Data on the reactions π − p → p π − , p p → π + π − , K − p → pK and p p → p p at 8 and 12 GeV/ c are presented. Our results agree with line reversal symmetry (between π − p → p π − and p p → π + π − ), Regge pole behaviour for non-exotic reactions ( π − p → p π − , p p → π + π − ), and universal behaviour for exotic reactions ( p p → p p , K − p → pK − ) with d σ /d u | u =0 ∼ s −10 excluding the existence of a “glory” mechanism in p p elastic backward scattering in our energy range.

We have measured dσ du for π − p elastic scattering at 3 and 4 GeV c in the ranges −0.119⩽ u ⩽0.113 and −0.233⩽ u ⩽0.088, respectively. A fit of the form d σ /d u = A exp ( Bu + Cu 2 ) gives B = 4.34±0.42 and C = 7.0±3.5 at 4 GeV c with χ 2 = 5.7 for 9 degrees of freedom; the simpler form d σ /d u = A exp( Bu ) gives B = 3.7 ± 0.3 with χ 2 = 9.6. At 3 GeV c we confirm with high statistics the structures already observed.
