We have measured the asymmetry parameter A and the spin correlation parameter A nn in pp elastic scattering, using the Argonne ZGS polarized proton beam and a polarized proton target. Angular distributions of A and A nn for | t | ≳ 0.2 (GeV/ c ) 2 were obtained at eight momenta between 1.10 and 2 if 2.75 GeV/ c . We find significant structure in both the energy and t -dependence of A nn at these energies. At p lab ≈ 1.34 GeV/ c A nn reaches a very large value of about 0.8–0.9 near θ cm = 90°.

We have measured π±p and pp elastic differential cross sections in the range |cosθc.m.|<0.35 for incident momenta from 2 to 9.7 GeV/c for π−p and pp and from 2 to 6.3 GeV/c for π+p. We find that the fixed-c.m.-angle πp differential cross sections cannot be described as simple functions of s. The data are compared to the energy and angular dependence predicted by the constituent model of Gunion, Brodsky, and Blankenbecler.

Large-angle π±p elastic-scattering cross sections, measured between 2 and 9 GeV/c in fine intervals of incident momentum and scattering angle, are used to search for cross-section fluctuations occurring for small changes in the center-of-mass energy as suggested by Ericson and Mayer-Kuckuck and by Frautschi. The parameters D, R, R' and P for pp elastic scattering have been measured in the centre-of-mass angular range 13 degrees to 58 degrees with an accuracy of about +or-0.02 at 209, 324, 379, 425 and 515 MeV. These results are incorporated with earlier data into a phase-shift analysis. Phase-shifts are generally in agreement with the theoretical predictions of the Paris group, although the F-wave spin-orbit combination is rather stronger than predicted. The fitted value for the pi 0pp coupling constant in g02=14.06+or-0.65.

This paper presents the results of a counter experiment at the Rutherford Laboratory, in which the polarization parameter in π + p elastic scattering was measured. Data were taken at 64 incident pion momenta between 0.60 and 2.65 GeV/ c . The results are found to be in generally good agreement with those of other experiments, and have substantially higher precision at many momenta.
