The inclusive cross sections for π − , π 0 , π + and η production in K − p interactions at 14.3 GeV/ c are calculated. The invariant cross section distributions are presented and compared in the whole phase space for π + and π 0 , and in the backward c.m. region for π − . In the fragmentation regions, the charged pion production is analysed in terms of the triple-Regge model.

The differential cross sections for π − p elastic scattering have been measured near 180°, in the momentum range 875–1580 MeV/c. The results are compared with recent phase shift analysis, showing some notable discrepancies.

We present data on π0 and η inclusive production from 100-GeV/c π±p collisions in the kinematic region x>~0.7 and 0<−t≲4 (GeV/c)2. The results are in excellent agreement with the predictions of triple-Regge theory and we have extracted the ρ and A2 trajectories out to −t=4 (GeV/c)2.

We compare high-transverse-momentum (P⊥) inclusive π0 production from π−, K−, p, and p¯ beams, at 100 and 200 GeV/c, for center-of-mass (c.m.) angles ranging from 2° to 115° and P⊥<4.5 GeV/c. The ratio σ(pp→π0X)σ(πp→π0X) decreases with increasing P⊥, and changes dramatically with c.m. angle. Also, the ratios σ(K−p→π0X)σ(π−p→π0X) and σ(p¯p→π0X)σ(pp→π0X) are approximately constant. These measurements are consistent with a theoretical viewpoint in which constituents of the incident hadrons undergo a hard-scattering subprocess.

Results are presented of measurements of the polarisation parameter for the reaction π−p→π°n : π°→γγ at 22 incident momenta in the resonance region. These results are generally in agreement with those of previous measurements and in qualitative agreement with predictions of phase shift analyses.

The pseudorapidity density and multiplicity distribution of charged particles produced in proton-proton collisions at the LHC, at a centre-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s} = 7$ TeV, were measured in the central pseudorapidity region |$\eta$| < 1. Comparisons are made with previous measurements at $\sqrt{s}$ = 0.9 TeV and 2.36 TeV. At $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 TeV, for events with at least one charged particle in |$\eta$| < 1, we obtain dNch/deta = 6.01 $\pm$ 0.01 (stat.) $^{+0.20}_{-0.12}$ (syst.). This corresponds to an increase of 57.6% $\pm$ 0.4% (stat.) $^{+3.6}_{-1.8}$% (syst.) relative to collisions at 0.9 TeV, significantly higher than calculations from commonly used models. The multiplicity distribution at 7 TeV is described fairly well by the negative binomial distribution.
Charged-particle pseudorapidity densities at central pseudorapidity (ETRAP from -1.0 to 1.0) for the INEL>0 class of events. Data are also given for the lower energy ALICE data.
Multiplicity distribution normalized to the bin width in the pseudorapidity region -1.0 to 1.0 for INEL>0 collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7000 GeV. See the paper arXiv:1004.3034 for the lower energy data. Note that the statistical as well as the systematic uncertainties are strongly correlated between neighbouring points. See text of paper for details.
Pseusdorapidity densities for the INEL>0 class of data as a function of pseudorapidity for centre-of mass energy 0.9 TeV. Note that this data is not in the paper but has been approved by the collaboration.
