The differential elastic scattering cross section for 2.24 GeV/ c K − p collisions has been measured in film from the Brookhaven 20″ bubble chamber. The total elastic cross section is found to be 6.2 ± 0.7 mb. The exponential dependence on square of the momentum t in (GeV/ c ) 2 is fitted by ( d σ d Ω elastic = (12.4 ± 1.0 mb/sr) exp (7.81 ± 0.25)t . A A fit to a black disc model requires a radius of 0.95 ± 0.05 fm.
The production of neutral strange particlesKso, Λ and\(\bar \Lambda \) has been studied in 60 and 200 GeV per nucleon OAu and pAu collisions with the streamer chamber vertex spectrometer of the NA35 experiment at the CERN-SPS accelerator. Ratios of neutral strange particle production to negatively charged particle production in selected regions of phase space were measured to be the same in OAu and pAu reactions. The rates of strange particle production in central OAu collisions are about a factor of 16 higher than in pAu collisions when compared in the same regions of phase space. If an enhancement of strange particle production in OAu collisions relative to pAu collisions is considered to be a signature for quark-gluon plasma formation, no evidence supporting it is observed. The experimental results are compared to the Lund FRITIOF model.

We present experimental results on K + d interactions from 865 to 1585 MeV/ c incident beam momentum. We report measurements of several K + d partial cross sections and calculate most of the others using relations derived from isospin conservation and data from other experiments. The most striking feature of the cross section data is the abrupt rise of the total single-pion-production cross section near 1000 MeV/ c . We extract isospin-0 KN partial cross sections and find a rapid quasi-two-body reaction KN → K ∗ N . As in the case of the isospin-1 K + N system, it appears that the structure around 1200 MeV/ c in the total cross section for the isospin-0 K ∗ N system is well reconstructed by the sum of three smoothly varying channel cross sections σ 0 (KN), σ 0 (KN π ) and σ 0 (KN ππ ). We study thereaction KN → K ∗ N near threshold and find that the production and decay angular distributions can be interpreted in terms of t -channel phenomena, specifically a superposition of ω, ϱ, and π exchange. As is true of the isospin-1 KΔ and K ∗ N final states, the isospin-0 K ∗ N state has a behavior near threshold which is not very different from its behavior at much higher energy.

Mid-rapidity spectra and yields of K$^-$ and K$^+$ have been measured for Au+Au collisions at 4, 6, 8, and 10.7 AGeV. The K$^-$ yield increases faster with beam energy than for K$^+$ and hence the K$^-$/K$^+$ ratio increases with beam energy. This ratio is studied as a function of both $\sqrt{s}$ and $\sqrt{s}$-$\sqrt{s_{th}}$ which allows the direct comparison of the kaon yields with respect to the production threshold in p+p reactions. For equal $\sqrt{s}$ - $\sqrt{s_{th}}$ the measured ratio K$^-$/K$^+$=0.2 at energies above threshold in contrast to the K$^-$/K$^+$ ratio of near unity observed at energies below threshold. The use of the K$^-$/K$^+$ ratio to test the predicted changes of kaon properties in dense nuclear matter is discussed.
Antiproton production near midrapidity has been studied in central collisions of 32 S with sulphur, silver and gold nuclei at 200 GeV per nucleon. The measured transverse mass distributions can be described by an exponential with inverse slope parameters of about 200 MeV, similar to those obtained from Λ spectra. The rapidity density increases weakly with the target mass, ranging from 0.4 to 0.7. The ratio Λ p near midrapidity is approximately 1.4 on average, significantly larger than the corresponding ratio observed in proton-proton and proton-nucleus collisions.
Measurements of the invariant cross sections for the reaction p(400 GeV)+(Li6, Be,C,Al,Cu,Ta)→(π±, K±)+X at laboratory angles from 70° to 160° are reported. Upper limits for p¯ production are given. Comparisons of the data are made using several scaling variables. Photoproduction of the cascade resonances has been investigated in the reactions $\gamma p \to K^+ K^+ (X)$ and $\gamma p \to K^+ K^+ \pi^- (X)$. The mass split of the $\Xi$ doublet is measured to be $5.4\pm 1.8$ MeV/c$^2$, consistent with existing measurements. The differential (total) cross sections for the $\Xi^{-}$ have been determined for photon beam energies from 2.75 to 3.85 (4.75) GeV, and are consistent with a possible production mechanism of $Y^*\to K^+\Xi^-$ through a $t$-channel process. The reaction $\gamma p \to K^+ K^+ \pi^-[\Xi^0]$ has also been investigated in search of excited cascade resonances. No significant signal of excited cascade states other than the $\Xi^-(1530)$ is observed. The cross section results of the $\Xi^-(1530)$ have also been obtained for photon beam energies from 3.35 to 4.75 GeV.
