The ϒ′ state has been observed as a narrow resonance at M ( ϒ ′) = 10.02 ± 0.02 GeV in e + e − annihilations, using a NaI and lead-glass detector in the DORIS storage ring at DESY. The ratio Г ee Г had /Г tot of electronic, hadronic, and total widths has been measured to be 0.32 ± 0.13 keV. The parameters of the Г particle have also been determined to be/ M (Г)

An analysis of inclusive production of K0 and the meson resonances K*±(892), ρ0(770),f0(975) andf2(1270) in hadronic decays of the Z0 is presented, based on about 973,000 multihadronic events collected by the DELPHI detector at LEP during 1991 and 1992. Overall multiplicities have been determined as 1.962±0.060 K0 mesons, 0.712±0.067 K*±(892) and 1.21±0.15ρ0(770) per hadronic Z0 decay. The average multiplicities off0(975) for scaled momentum,xp, in the range 0.05≤xp≤0.6 and off2(1270) for 0.05≤xp≤1.0 are 0.098±0.016 and 0.170±0.043 respectively. Thef0(975) and ρ0(770)xp-spectra have similar shapes. Thef2(1270)/ρ0(770) ratio increases withxp. The average multiplicities and the differential cross sections are compared with the JETSET Parton Shower model. The model with default parameters fails to reproduce the experimental K0 momentum spectrum at low momentum, describes the K*±(892) and ρ0(770)xp-spectrum shapes, but significantly overestimates their production rates.

We carried out the energy scan between E CM = 58 and 60 GeV at the TRISTAN e + e − collider to search for the possible narrow resonance suggested by the L3 experiment at LEP. The total cross sections are measured for γγ, multihadron, e + e − and μ + μ − production at ten energy points covering this energy range almost uniformly. The results are in good agreement with the Standard Model predictions, and 95% confidence level upper limits are set to Γ ee × BR of the hypothetical scalar and tensor resonances.

We report a new measurement of Rb=Gamma(Z -> bb)/ Gamma(Z -> hadrons) using a double tag technique where the b selection is based on topological reconstruction of the mass of the B-decay vertex. The measurement was performed using a sample of 150k hadronic Z0 events collected with the SLD at the SLAC Linear Collider during the years 1993-1995. The method utilizes the 3-D vertexing abilities of the SLD CCD pixel vertex detector and the small stable SLC beams to obtain a high b tagging efficiency of 37% for a purity of 97.2%. The high purity reduces the systematics introduced by charm contamination and correlations with Rc. We obtain a result of Rb=0.2176+/-0.0033(stat.)+/-0.0017(syst.)+/-0.0008(Rc). The inclusive production of the f ′ 2 (1525) in hadronic Z 0 decays has been studied in data collected by the DELPHI detector at LEP. The Ring Imaging Cherenkov detectors were important tools in the identification of the decay f ′ 2 (1525) → K + K − . The average number of f ′ 2 (1525) produced per hadronic Z decay, 〈f′ 2 〉 = 0.020 ± 0.005 (stat) ± 0.006 (syst), and the momentum distribution of the f ′ 2 (1525) have both been measured. The mass and width of the f ′ 2 (1525) are found to be 〈M f′ 2 〉 = 1535 ± 5 (stat) ± 4 (syst) MeV/c 2 , (T f′ 2 ;) = 60 ± 20 (stat) ± 19 (syst) MeV/c 2

This paper describes an update of the double tagging measurement of the fraction, Rb, of Z0 → bb̅ events in hadronic Z0 decays, with statistics improved by including the data collected in 1994. The presence of electrons or muons from semileptonic decays of bottom hadrons and the detection of bottom hadron decay vertices were used together to obtain an event sample enriched in Z0 → bb̅ decays. The efficiency of the bb̅ event tagging was obtained from the data by comparing the numbers of events having a bottom signature in either one or both thrust hemispheres. Efficiency correlations between opposite event hemispheres are small (< 0.5%) and well understood through comparisons between the real and simulated data samples. A value of Rb= 0.2175 ± 0.0014 ± 0.0017 was obtained, where the first error is statistical and the second systematic. The uncertainty on the decay width Γ(Z0 → cc̅) is not included in these errors. The result depends on Rc as follows: $${⩼ Delta R_{⤪ b}⩈er R_{⤪ b}}=-0.084{⩼ Delta R_{⤪ c}⩈er R_{⤪ c}},$$ where ΔRc is the deviation of Rc from the value 0.172 predicted by the Standard Model.

A new measurement of the total e + e − → hadrons cross-section in the centre of mass energy range 1.8-2.5 GeV, performed by the FENICE experiment at the Frascati e + e − storage ring ADONE, is presented. The behaviour of the total cross section together with the proton electromagnetic time-like form factor is discussed in terms of a narrow vector resonance close to the nucleon-antinucleon threshold.
Only statistical errors are quoted.
The fraction of Z to bbbar events in hadronic Z decays has been measured by the OPAL experiment using the data collected at LEP between 1992 and 1995. The Z to bbbar decays were tagged using displaced secondary vertices, and high momentum electrons and muons. Systematic uncertainties were reduced by measuring the b-tagging efficiency using a double tagging technique. Efficiency correlations between opposite hemispheres of an event are small, and are well understood through comparisons between real and simulated data samples. A value of Rb = 0.2178 +- 0.0011 +- 0.0013 was obtained, where the first error is statistical and the second systematic. The uncertainty on Rc, the fraction of Z to ccbar events in hadronic Z decays, is not included in the errors. The dependence on Rc is Delta(Rb)/Rb = -0.056*Delta(Rc)/Rc where Delta(Rc) is the deviation of Rc from the value 0.172 predicted by the Standard Model. The result for Rb agrees with the value of 0.2155 +- 0.0003 predicted by the Standard Model.
Second systematic error depends on Rc=Delta(R_c)/R_c ratio, where Delta(R_c) is the deviation of R_c from the value 0.172 predicted by the Standard Model.
The contributions of the PLUTO experiment to e + e − physics at collision energies in the range of 3–32 GeV are reviewed. The review briefly sketches the storage rings DORIS and PETRA at DESY, and describes the most important features of the PLUTO detector, of data processing, and of the analysis methods. It covers the physics results in the fields of electroweak interactions, of the heavy lepton τ and the search for still heavier leptons, of hadron production with evidence for quark and gluon jets, as well as for single and multiple gluon emission, of Y decays and their relation to QCD, and presents results in high-energy photon-photon interactions, including the first measurement of the photon structure function.
